    Gabriel, it is fearful situation to say the least. I had that experience in rome's railroad station. The attendant gave me just 2 small pieces of toilet paper. It was not enough and as soon I get up I had to sit down again. Bandanas were the fashion in the seventies, you wore them around your head, knees, and hanging from the back pocket. I used the all plus a shirt. Plus there were people banging on the door because I was taking to long. Why didn't anyone invent something to take care of this body function ? In France society ladies had a sauce dish they could use in public for urinating without being ashamed. When I travel I am starting to think is better to wear adult diapers.

      50hellkat2 ...Absolutely agree , plus pepto bismol. Take two of each ! Hand sanitizer too ! A couple of vlogers hardly eat before going on a really long bus ride in India ! They say 8-12 hours on a sleeper bus is hard enough , even though there are pit stops .

    I spent 5 years in the US Army going to the field quit often. after some near mishaps and several shirts with no sleeves I learned I needed to pack at least one roll of TP. now I wont be caught dead with out a roll at least in my truck. my policy of not going any ware with out my ETP has saved me multiple times while driving long stretches across the US

    Hey Grabriel, one really good tip for that man. Have some grounded coffee with you and take eat a spoonful of that. It will help with tightening the stomach and help with the gastric juices. It really works. Have a little of that in a ziplock bag.

    It happened to me 3X...Once in Italy riding on a motorbike with my friend...nature called and i ran into an empty office building and did it on the floor ( nobody around on Sunday). Next was in Iceland ..the bus tour made a stop and i ran up a mountain and did it..used grass as toilet paper. Last time was in Scotland...same thing.. did it on a Battleground behind the bushes ( had paper with me)..learned from previous experiences. For older men with enlarged prostates, # 1 becomes a problem ( between 1-3 hrs of holding time is the limit). It's no joke getting older and wanting to travel the world ..finding a toilet becomes an all consuming task. Happy portable toilets to all.

    15 years ago I was on a bus with half a pound of weed and needed to piss, I could hold it sooner or later a couple of cop looking guys in the back where talking that they can smell it (the weed or piss) after 2 agonizing hours finally at the bus stopover I rush to the bathroom and take a piss. When I got back the bus was gone with my backpack & the weed so I ran out to the street and see it half a mile away, I take a cab and say 'follow that bus' down the road it was actually a different bus 😔..
    So he drops me at the guest house further down the highway... I'm sitting in the curb thinking what to do. Then ahold the bus passes by(without the cops)! I halt them to stop, get my bag & the weed and enjoy my vacation!

    I totally agreed with your title, 'A Traveler's Worst Fear'. Even I have an iron stomach, I eat very carefully while travelling. One roll of toilet paper (without core) in a ziploc bag, hand sanitizer are always two essential item in my day pack. Some public bathrooms in South East Asia countries do not have toilet paper.

  • @chrisbrown8748
    @chrisbrown8748 Před 7 lety

    That is one of the worse and most uncomfortable feelings in the world and when you tack on a bumpy bus ride that only adds to the nightmare. Also a word of advice to anyone who might run out of TP you can always use the sleeves of a T-Shirt which I didn't many times while in the Marine Corps.

  • @rubytuesday9539
    @rubytuesday9539 Před 6 lety

    Had similar in eastern Turkey. Very ill and long bus ride. One of my worst experiences, for sure. I bolted out the door at every stop to go squat and explode for just temporary relief. Eventually I think the driver knew I was sick and looked less exasperated when I made them wait a few extra minutes at several stops. Got bedbugs out there too but that wasn't nearly as bad.

    Oh man... I can relate, I used to do a daily commute to work with 3 other people, 100+ km on a highway, hour and a half journey. Not the nice jungle-surrounded highway, it was a field-surrounded highway that actually had a fence on both sides so even if there were some covers you couldn't use them because of fence. So almost nothing but other cars and empty fields, and of course 3 other people from my ride. It happened to me couple of times but luckily it happened towards the end of the ride half hour before destination so I somehow managed to hold it.

  • @claudiosaltara8847
    @claudiosaltara8847 Před 6 lety +1

    No one really wants to talk about it. In the countryside there is no problem but what do you do in a city where you cannot find a public bathroom? I crapped in my pants in my home town, but that was no problem, home was near. Can you imagine going back to the hotel dripping with feces? In the old days nobody really cared. There were no bathrooms in the apartments but there many public bathrooms in town (in Italy) nowadays there is no single bathroom in main st., you are lucky if you find a store were they let you use it, hoping it is not occupied.

    • @joelweiner4798
      @joelweiner4798 Před 5 lety +1

      In a big city, just walk into any hotel and find a restroom. Most people are afraid to do this but in NYC, there's no problem walking inside and seeking a restroom. They're usually on the main level or on the conference room/gym levels. That's better than using a McDonald's public toilet. If i'm in a foreign country, i do the same..when you got to go, just do it..like the Nike ad proclaims.

  • @billyd10
    @billyd10 Před 7 lety

    Gabriel, I totally sympathize with what happened to you. I had the same problem. I had a bad case of Montezuma's Revenge and took a bus trip from Mexico City to Teotihuacan to see the pyramids. On the way there I had to go so badly with no toilet facility on the bus. When I got to the site it was made even worse in finding a toilet that was decent to use. The ride back was not great either.

    Hi! I was on a fast bus, but not first class, not sure what class, in rural south Mexico I think maybe an hour out of Tuxtla on my way to the Yucatan Peninsula, toward the same area that you were in Gabriel, but a minor difference in time, 1982 ha! I was still in the highlands. There was no jungle. The bus stopped maybe once at a place to buy lunch. For men the only bathroom was one big tin trough where all would crowd in and urinate. If you had to go number two the owner of the cantina said to go out back. The women I felt sorry for as all they could do was have a friend hold up a sweater or whatever for privacy. There was toilet paper dotted all over the landscape up this slope. I fortunately didn't have diarrhea and waited until I got to I think it was Palanque Mayan ruins and tourist area. Playa del Carmen then was like a dream, a tiny town. The beach there, both directions as far as you could see was metaphoric, white sand beach, tall beautiful palm trees, and turquoise and cobalt blue water. I could get the ship to the island of Cozumel there. Someone told me it is all built up there now. The people there mainly spoke Mayan, but Spanish too of course. It was so moving to hear Maya language, but I was there for a reason I couldn't really grasp fully where their words were like a colorful thread crossing time and much more. I love Mexico and the people and lived in the mountains and helped two families plant their crops of corn and frijoles and gave them money and food. Big blisters on my hands and feet but gems in my soul ha! Though I wear shoes I can still feel the earth beneath my feet.

      Hi there, you just put those items in your baggage that will go underneath the plane. Then you go through security after you've already checked your baggage at the check-in counter. So it's not a problem.

    Love, love the videos...very brave...how do you deal with emergencies..like medical for instance?

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  Před 8 lety +2

      Basically, buy travel insurance and then hope for the best! I've never had a medical emergency while traveling, though in Nepal I had a toothache and made a dentist appointment. They prescribed a special toothpaste that did the trick, so that was an easy one. You just deal with stuff as it happens since you can't be prepared for everything

    Did you drink any of the local water in Mexico? It is bad for most of us because of a local water organism. But the advice to walk with your ETP is important.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  Před 8 lety

      All airlines are very safe, they have to pass certain safety and security regulations. Air travel in general is very safe. So I would just look for the cheapest flight, at least that's what I do.

    Note to self: Videos about shitting on my pants= great ratings. Someone said wet wipes and I agree, but after watching the video I googled anti diarrheal medications and it said that they can worsen or prolong diarrhea caused by parasites or bacteria.
