Man, I wish I was there. Camping in the woods, eating moose and fish around the open fire and talking about Jesus. Absolutely the best!!!!
I run a men’s group in my parish. I think you’re on to something Father. I will have to set up a men’s camping trip retreat next year when it gets warm again.

I once taught in Wabasca-Desmarais, northen Alberta. And an adult meti student talked of taking me camping in the snow (bedding down in a warm-enough sleeping bag, at the base of a large pine, the branches above providing cover from snowfalls & the wind).
Unfortunately my contract ended before that next winter.

I can't get out to our British Columbia forests, but you may have encouraged another pilgrimage:
I am considering 6 mths in Argentina, to jump start my going on to the carnivore (meat) diet. Tthey have great beef, & it's inexpensively priced. My very health/life depends upon my abandoning my current poor diet.
But my poor Spanish is a challenge; but now you've got me thinking, that'd be my wilderness, cut off from much going on around me!

As a younger widow, I feel like God has been calling me into the “wilderness “ of a nearby state park and lake. Because God has a sense of humor, I feel certain, He uses the natural bend in the lake to make it so that there is NO ONE around while I sit with Him by the lake. It’s like He gives me my own wilderness! Thanks, Father; you are prayed for!

I spent time alone with my dog in the Colorado wilderness, on and off for a year. And then I climbed Mount Everest for a mission trip raising money to build a library School there in a Himalayan village. It changed my life. I was 45.

@@JimArsenault-i4j Amen!! I was blessed to have a godfather who knew a LOT about nature. One of the most important things he taught me was to be quiet and become PART of nature instead of just looking at it. Doing so is truly a transformative experience!

Being in the wilderness is not just good for men, but good for everyone. Just returned from a family trip to Canada and we spent a lot of time in the wilderness. We also are blessed with a little cabin in Northern Wisconsin. I find a lot of peace there.

Father, just a tiny piece of campfire cooking advice: cast iron skillets work great and you don't have to worry about plastic handles and Teflon coatings.
So simple to set up a fire and a cook area! Father is so full of inspiration, he's so full of love and grace! His parents must be so proud! Your idea of the 72 hours is fantastic, every young man should take on it! Than adding a day evey time that they do it, baby steps and one will be suprised that we can leave without using the devil little toy( smart phone) how clever is the name!!

Could you please consider starting a workshop to teach young men how to spend time in the wilderness?
Ive met several people that would jump at the opportunity but never got the chance because they grew up in the city.
I love your videos out in nature! They bring me peace and remind me all we need are a few simple things to survive plus the trinity, prayer, our bible and rosary.

Back in the 1980’s, we used to go camping in the Canadian Rockies each summer. Since 1979, I’ve hike over 2000 km of day hike trails and covered all the mountain national parks. Often we would cook a fine steak over the fire, along with fried potatoes, veggies, salad and a glorious Italian or Portuguese red wine under tall spruce after a day hike. We would stay at one campground for a couple weeks and then freely move to other campgrounds if the weather got to cold or rainy. It was the golden age of Camping in Canada. And there were times I could find absolute silence. Once I prayed high up on a mountain, almost 100 m from a glacier.
In the last 10 years, things have radically changed. One is forced to reserve campsites, and it takes an extra effort to plan an entire trip because everything has to be reserved online in advanced, or one has to use an app for this or that. Just jumping into the car to drive off to the wilderness is no longer simple. I’m upset by this, but it’s still possible to get to the wilderness.
