  • www.autobytel.c... Chevrolet Camaro's Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser gives Autobytel a nice thorough review on the 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1. This beat has 580 horsepower lurking under the hood. 0-60 MPH flies by in 3.9 seconds with the automatic transmission. This is going to be the ultimate Camaro. Chevy has never produced a Camaro with level of performance and technology built in.
    It is not very often that you see high performance sports cars equipped with an automatic transmission. But in terms of shifting an automatic will always be quicker than a manual. The Hydra-Matic 6L90 automatic transmission does feature steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
    The Magnetic Ride Control System on the Chevy Camaro ZL1 is the first can on the market with the latest and greatest generation of this technology. The shocks have metallic particles in the shock fluid itself. When the shocks sense movement they move the magnetic particles into a field that instantly dampens the suspension. If you are driving 60 MPH in the 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 the Magnetic Ride Control System is making adjustments every inch. What this means is that you can have a very comfortable and stable ride on regular roads and a stiffer ride at the track.
    What's different on the ZL1 body compared to the regular SS is the larger lower grille. This was designed in the wind tunnel to take air in and cool the engine. The air is then channeled out the hood extractor to prevent lift and make down force.
    The Camaro ZL1 is an easy car to drive. You would think that a 580 horsepower vehicle would be a handful. The manual clutch is very smooth and the automatic transmission is a real joy. The ZL1 is a great car to drive around town in. The Chevy Camaro ZL1 has a base price of $54,095. Nothing on the Camaro ZL1 was compromised in terms of performance. Gas Mileage is not that great but you buy this vehicle for its performance and not its fuel economy.

    I've been researching sports cars for 6 months trying to decide which one. From American to European then back to American. I own a Chevy Truck and love it. Can't wait to bring home a Chevy Camaro ZL-1.
    Thanks GM!!!!!

    If you have enough money to buy this car then you don't need to worry about gas mileage. I mean damn the only reason I would buy it is to go fast. That's the one thing that irritates me beyond belief when some old person has a fast car and wants to drive it slow, if you want to drive a fast car slow why didn't you buy a slower car. If my car had a 580hp engine do you think I would be driving slow hell no I would use all of that power. It's an amazing looking car and fast

    they should've put a gauge outside on the hood like the gtos.

    I wish I could have seen the faces of the Camaro zl1 development team when Ford announced the 13 Shelby's hp/tq/top speed numbers just a couple weeks after the zl1 release. You would have thought that GM wouldn't have made the zl1 so damn heavy.
    They need to make the camaro gauges in front of the shifter more efficient. I know it's an old school design cue, but come on! What purpose are they there in that location? If i'm tracking the car I'm not going to look down and take my eyes off the road to change eye elevation. POINTLESS!

      Straight line speed Shelby wins on top, however despite the zl1 weight it handles SOOOO much better. On the course/track the camaro quickness destroys the Shelby. If the Shelby can put down enough power it won't matter how fast it is top. Both great cars for two different reason. Ford should've tried to use it lighter weight to their advantage with handling but that's typical ford hahah dragsters at heart.

      @Thamac15 Před 10 lety

      I agree the zl1 handles well on a track. It's fatass does have issues around high speed turns, but a decent driver can avoid any real issues. What do you think about my comment about the camaro gauge locations?

      @stephenburke9909 Před 8 lety

      +Thamac15 I own a ZL1, I honestly do not use the gauges at all. I use the Heads up display for everything. The only thing I hate is the supercharger psi location - wish that showed on the HUD as well

    @The68VEEDUB I hope you are talking about driving fast at the track. There is laws out there and highway patrols to inforce them. Last but not least, there are people that buys a car for the looks.

    I've owned a 2002 f150 ext. cab and it was alright. It wasn't of better quality than my 99 z71 Silverado... I may be a Chevy fanboy, but what are you? A Ford fanboy? Clown! The ZL1 is 2012 times more sleek than your new 2013 Shelby. Dsavish, I am a Chevy Fanboy and beauty approves this message!

    You wouldn't have a license very long if you're talking about driving like that on public roads. There's a time & a place to go fast... I will not get on it if there are side streets or a lot of other cars around. That's how I've kept my license clean all these years. I race at the track all the time, but there are plenty of times were I just take a nice cruise when driving on public roads. You can't just floor it everywhere you go. I mean you could but...

    Yes, ladies ride Stangs to fulfill the urge of that warm, satisfying sensation they long for in having something between their legs. But wait... If the Camaro is a beast, what's the ZR1? Ahh, Definitely an animal no Shelby or Ford can mess with! Ford fans, only B's ride ponys... with the exception in and of John Wayne of course.
