John is one of my favourite Hammers - we used to have a sweepstake for what minute he was going to get himself booked when he came on as a sub. Great listening to his memories.

Love Moncs....absolute legend....was at Sheff Wed away one year and in warm up he lamps a shot in so hard it came into the away end and nearly tool someone's head off he came over and said sorry...tower hamlets born legend.

Remember going to the training ground and stan lazaridis in his car leaving and asking security to hurry up, after asking stan what he's late for, he said he'd cut the toes out of Monc's socks the knees out of his trousers and elbows out of his tops, as stan left an Mad Monc's came running out in his training gear chasing stan... proper characters back in the day sadly missed Super Johnny Moncur... top quality geezer, thanks for the memories John ⚒

i remember when i was freezing cold sitting int the bobby moore lower front row in my season ticket seat when i was a kid johnny chucked me his training jacket still got it but what a memory
I’ll never forget sitting in the west stand watching Moncs warming up behind the linesman and he was slide tackling right to within 6inches of the linesmans feet and he didn’t have a clue. He must have done it 4/6 times and the whole crowd around me were falling about laughing. Aswell as the benches i might add. I’ll never forget that night. Hilarious.
Monc’s what an absolute legend! Great times to watch West Ham used to get value for money watching a team trying to win instead of a team set up not to lose. COYI

I wish english speakers could listen to this one interview where Futre goes in depth into that first game against Arsenal as a hammer. The interview is in spanish unfortunately but it's one of the best football related stories I heard. Is account of that incident with the number 10 shirt is also different than Redknapp's, but he does mention granting acess to his villa to the boys so they could play gold :D
It's funny that Rio's debut was somehow related to the story.

Not enough stories
What a Hammer. I loved those days when footballers were normal people. I chatted and drank with lots of them. I always remembered John's little turnaround with the ball to lose an opponent. He had it off to a tee! Loads of players copied it from him after. Great ambassador for our club.

I bought a new build house in Beckton near Asda when I was a teenager about 1989 & I used to see Johnny Moncs sponsored car regularly in my road. Not sure if his parents lived there. Or who he was visiting. Great player for us.
Used to go to John Moncur soccer school every summer in Corringham Essex Gable hall school. Met him, Cottee, Hartson and even Dicksy. Best memories growing up.

Great interview. What a character. We used to guess how long it would be before he got a yellow card when he came on as sub. Still remember his goal at home to Bradford in that mad 5-4 game. A screamer while he was falling over. If I remember rightly Sebastian Schemmel played for Metz in that Intertoto Cup Final. Probably why Harry signed him
