Who saw Futre without injuries, knows he was an amazing player. Could be best of the world easily. He won the champions league with F.C. Porto, and in Madrid nobody (of that time) forgot how special Futre was. But took too much kicks in his knees and arrived in AC Milan barely walking.
Futre told this story a couple of years ago and there is an important detail, he actually had a clause in his contract with West Ham that he had to have number 10
Another side of this story happened on the stands. One young West Ham player that was starting to train with the team was out left out of the match and as such went up to the lounges. Back in the day it wsa normal to have a few drinks while watching the game. That kid was already half drunk chilling when they called him to fill up the list. Poor guy started to tremble and ask the Gods not to come in because he could actually barf in that state. By the end of the match West Ham was done and Redknapp decided to sub him in. Lucky him he was already feeling better by then and only played a few minutes. This is the story how Rio Ferdinand had his first senior minutes ever. All thanks to Futre. Rio Himself told the story and he even told Futre about it. It was because of his shananigans that he first started as a teenage half drunk kid.
I saw Futre play for West Ham once v Southampton I think, unreal skill but his knees were shot to bits and it was a very short lived career with the Hammers.
Harry is brilliant! He makes us forget that Arsene Wenger hadn't joined Arsenal yet at that point of the 1996/97 season. He came in late september. But I love all the story he tells.
never let the truth get in the way of a good story. the truth is he probably kicked off about the shirt number when he signed, if he did at all. not on the first game of the season.
@@Mr___X Futre himself also told the same story for FourFourTwo it happened on the first game of the season but the thing is the ref accepted the excuse that Harry gave him. No Arsenal's manager involved in all this. but as i said Harry always tells the best story. :D
@@MsBrandbrand good stuff. surprised a player can get to the first game of the season without knowing their number. sounds like someone lied to him when he signed.

Paulo Futre on the subject: -´´You are champion of Europe, of Portugal, of Italy, with 2 Cups in Spain, with a Silver Ball... A 30-year-old player at the end of his career, with 3 knee cirguries, without knowing whether the next season It will be your last. And then West Ham comes and offers you a contract. You accept but you have one requirement, to play with your number, number 10. They accept, they sign the clause... a month goes by, I'm warming up to play against Arsenal, I go to the dressing room 5 minutes before the match starts, and I see my jersey with the number 16. I complained to the coach, I complained to the president, apparently no one knew anything so I threw my shirt at them and left...what would you do in my place?´´.
Just proves how shite of a manager Redknapp was !! He signed some awful players over the years and avoided paying tax too !! So ripped off the clubs he managed and the inland revenue.
Paulo Futre awful player?!!! You know nothing mate, Futre talent was on the level of Ronaldinho or Messi, or the other way around actually. Jus look for his videos!
It did, by Paulo tells it diferently, he grabbed the shirt and put it on down Redknapp's head. Which I believe it's the true story. Since Redknapp sounds so emotional in this lol
Some of it is certainly made up. For one thing, Wenger wasn’t the Arsenal manager for the first game of 1996/7. Plus, he had signed a contract to have the number 10 shirt in pre-season.
Once you’ve announced your team and kit numbers to the premier league it’s final. You need special permission from them to change during the season but definitely can’t be done before the game. Plus the players names are already printed on the jerseys plus all the fans who have bought jerseys which would now be numbered wrong. Quite a mess
I agree with Paul. Even with a CL title, his career is mediocre compared to his talent. Problem with many old-school players, very unhealthy lifestyles. Couple that with injuries, and you got a recovery period with bohemian binges, and inability to ever get back to shape. As happened with Ronaldo9 or Adriano.

I never did but remember him coming to West Ham he’s was broken by then
Yeah no. He could not be best of the world. He was a really good player but not absolute top level.
Futre told this story a couple of years ago and there is an important detail, he actually had a clause in his contract with West Ham that he had to have number 10
The fact he had a clause for a stupid number shows me how much of an idiot he is.
_”What is this!? Tactics!?”_
😂
This killed me aswell 😂
here in Portugal YOUR WORD IS YOUR BOND HARRY "Paulinho" Was after Eusebio the absolute best we ever had ......a left foot to die for

real portuguese 10 or nothing 😂 this man was a monster, the injuries ... Badly
Harry must have loads of storys about how he has picketed loads of cash from dodgy deals
@Delboy He's a fackin' football manager. Fack off.
Highly selective memory.
“Wurrr you know… £40k a week, £60k after tax… triffic deal… wurrr you know.”
Nothing wrong with a little back hander

I didnt know futre was at West Ham. This guy was another Maradona only for his injuries what a player.
There's a movie in that somewhere. Back to the Futre where Harry steals a Delorean and chases Paulo to the airport to beg him to stay :-)
