Thanks so much for trying this recipe! :) So happy to hear you enjoyed it!
tears down my face, this is so beautiful! i can now bring a piece of japan right into my kitchen, thank you so much!!
I have made this recipe many times. And the taste is good.. i make it for my homemade ramen and everybody loves it. All done by watching and reading the instruction. Great!!
I love this dish! Everyone thought it was wonderful. Love your videos and your background music is awesome!
First time I made it, it was realllly good. Secons time I played around with the doses a little and I must say this recipe makes the pork belly purely DIVINE and it is so simple, I love it, thanks so much
I have never had this, but this video was great and it looks simply delicious!
I fell in love after trying this recipe and was lucky to get pork bellies (they're not that common where I shop). What I like is the sauce, since any leftovers can be mixed made into a soup stock for that Char Siu flavor.

You can go to Costco and ask Butcher to give you a thick pork belly.
I’ve had a hard time obtaining pork belly, too, but I used the same technique on a small pork roast and it was delicious, and maybe a bit healthier since there was less fat. I finally have a pork belly, though, and I’m going to make this right this time!
Salivating over this recipe

I've tried this recipe and it's really simple but delicious! I didn't have sake, so I substitute it with mixture of wine and mirin. Still great taste though... thanks for the recipe 👍🏻

We had this for dinner and it was really great! For someone who is learning to cook, your videos very easy to follow. Thanks so much!
Making this right now. It's in a pot on low heat with a hole foil cover. The house smells delicious. Going to make fried rice with some of the char sui once it's done.
Wow just made one and it is so delicious on top of steamy hot rice with the leftover sauce drizzling trough the meat into the rice.. Yumm

Yahoooooo oishi and easy!
Wow! I'm hungry.
Yummy !!!
Great tutorial, thank you very much! If i do a lot of this at once, what is the best way to re-heat it after 1 day for example?
Graciassss por los titulos en español
This looks delicious. I can't wait to try my hand at making this. Thank you for running such a great CZcams channel. I hope some day you do a 2nd cookbook!
+Namiko Chen (Just One Cookbook) No problem! I was wondering what you recommend. A silicone or wood otoshibuta? I don't mind sacrificing convenience if the wood ones work better.
+Namiko Chen (Just One Cookbook) Also, could you explain how to do the additional step which is searing with a propane torch or broiler. How long do you use the torch or broiler? I know searing is quick, so its probably not that long and I should just watch it I'm guessing. And, if you do the torch how are you supposed to direct the flame like how close should it be to the meat and going in what direction. I'm guessing you don't want to do it vertically aiming directly on the meat. Going horizontal above the meat is probably better?
+Namiko Chen (Just One Cookbook) Oh, I know I saw that page. I just would rather not have to make it each time cause I'm lazy.
+Namiko Chen (Just One Cookbook) Thanks for the advice. You can always go back for more kinda sounds like my mom talking about serving myself for dinner lol. Anyways, I'm guessing the one you linked on your site to Amazon is of the smaller variety?
+Namiko Chen (Just One Cookbook) That sounds great. Do you have a link? I can't find it on amazon or google.

Yasss the pork looks tasty!
Thank you!
Nice, learn something new today.
Thanks for watching! :)
My japanese cook book uses pork shoulder instead of pork belly and I LOVE PORK BELLY!!! Now I can add it to my ramen at home :)
great video!!
Thank you!
I love the kids at the end saying "Itadakimasu" :)
Fuck kids!
im in love with you recipie as well as th e backround music. so mesmerizing. keep it up!
I want to say thankyou for putting in so much detail. I love all your videos they really show a great depth of flavor :-) I just received a taiyaki pan as a present can't wait to start. I was wondering if you could tell me what brand of soy sauce you use. I am ordering the pork belly :-)
totemo oishii....tabetai... love this....
beautiful video
+NUCLEABOX Thank you!
Dropping by to say, 'thank you' for this wonderful recipe. I made this for dinner and it was bomb!😄 I will surely make it again in the future. I didnt use sake though coz we dont have that here. Nonetheless, the result exceeded my expectation. The meat was so tender and I like the fact that its got the taste of ginger. :)
Note: It was my first time to try/eat it as Ive never been to Japan and Japanese restaurants in our area dont have it in their menu.
Thank you again.^-^
Thanks so much for your feedback!! So happy to hear you enjoyed it!
I will try this using pressure cooker
Hi Namiko, thank you for the video, i wonder if we can replace the sake with anything else?
Thank you
Yum
Wow, yum
Thank you!
wow! I was sceptical (thought it was some kind of Char siu rip off) but that flavour looks intense, perfectly match with some hot broth and chewy noodles, awesome! great vid.
Thanks so much!
I didn't get it. What happened to the julienned negi?
This is the simplest of all the char siu recipe out there, not many ingredients and don't take as long, works for me, I don't have time and energy
It's different from Chinese version though, so if you're looking for Japanese "chashu" style, yes it's pretty easy and delicious. Thank you for watching!
Just One Cookbook I meant that In a good way, i don't have time and energy to use many ingredients, materials, leave in a bag overnight in fridge, cook with racks in oven and those mess, takes too long, I like this way
Yes, I didn't take it negative. I'm happy to hear you like it, it is pretty easy to make. :) . I am a busy mom too, so I share same value. :)
I just tried if (soy sauce included anyway ;) ) and wow! the only thing that was wrong about it was that I didn't cook enough! ... I saved a bit of it anyway, together with the remaining sauce that was left from the cooking. and today I was cooking a ramen soup to use the three loafs i kept from last night, and I thought why not use that sauce I kept just to cover the little loafs and keep their flavor. so i did. and it was one of the best ramen soups I've ever had. :)
you have very nice music to accompany your cooking videos, who are the artist you normally use? very nice !
