- LMS 46115 Scots Guardsman would be making preservation history in the first time two Royal Scot class locomotives have been over Shap Summit within a few minutes of each other . LMS 46115 Scots Guardsman was the motive power for the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express from London Euston to Carlisle via the West Coast Mainline over Shap Summit . 46115 is seen a few minutes after 46100 charged over Shap from a viewpoint just above Shap Wells and at the summit . As 46115 approaches the summit it slipped twice right in the location of the flange lubricator. The return sees 46115 approaching Aisgill Summit .Thanks to Nige for the company and the lift .Apologies for the 1st shot overrunning due to a bad edit and the second shot being out of plumb a tad as the fence the gorilla pod was on was knocked by a chap with a big stone that shifted the camera plus not the best audio ever .
Excellent Steve - I didn't know about the flange lubricator. I dare say there will be a bit more rolling resistane due to the curve there as well. Driver very quick on the regulator, that must have been a testing moment or two and the slight loss of speed was noticeable. A lot going on there! Well done in capturing and explaining it. 👏
Thanks Mart , a few drivers I’ve spoken with have said they are always expecting the engine to slip so are ready and well done the driver especially as he was a trainee 👍
Great locations and videos. The sound climbing up the gradient at Ais Gill superb, a Scot hard at work is a lovely sound. Thanks once again guys, a great day out. 👍✨️✨️✨️
Thanks Stuart, pretty pleased with the results I must admit 👍🎥
Spot on Steve, the day worked very well and Guardsman on top form with no need for a helper, cheers 👍
Thanks Nige , yes it was a great display from SG especially with a trainee driver on Shap 👍
glorious video, thank you Stephen, I was on board her yesterday, an awesome day ;-)
Thanks Stu , pleased you enjoyed the video and I hope you had a great day out 👍

Thanks for the kind words 👍
what a wonderful, atmospheric piece of filming
Thanks for the kind comment. 👍
Wonderfull video Stephen and great sound :)
Thanks Simon, had a couple of issues with the mics picking up the buzz from the overhead wires sadly.
Excellent video Steve
Brilliant work, cracking video! 👍
Thanks for the kind comment as it’s much appreciated 👍
Steve, Magnificent sounds from Scots Guardsman with all round great captures. Regards, John
Thanks John, bit surprised my mics picked up the buzz from the wires as it very rarely happens 🤷
That last bit was epic 👍👍
Thanks for the kind comment 👍
Great video, I thought I saw yours or Niges car when I was passing the parking for the summit. We were at the Shap wells hotel location which was very busy and at the over the wall shot at Waitby which was very quiet. I heard that the Scot had a another slip about half a mile before Salterwath but managed to keep going.
Thanks Alistair, it was a great display from SG and the trainee driver did a splendid job I thought especially on Shap 👍
Great to see two scots out today steve, wonderfull performance from Guardsman unassisted, super video and a great show for all enthusiasts today, Stephen Brass . 🎥👍🙂
Thanks Steve, must admit it was a great display from SG especially as it was a trainee driver on Shap 👍
Glorious
Thanks Theodore 👍
Excellent video Steve. Great sound from the Scot. Well captured this unusual sighting of 2 Scots with in minutes of each other. Kind regards C&A
Thanks C&A, it was a great day for steam enthusiasts I must admit 👍🎥
Superb video. What a glorious sound at Ais Gill!
Thanks Christopher, pleased you enjoyed the show from SG 👍
Driver caught that wheel slip very well👌 isn't there a flange greaser in that location that's claimed a few steam locos over the years?
Thanks Richard, there is indeed and most drivers are waiting for the slip so the young trainee did a great job I thought. Sorry for the late response.
Awesome video Stephen, what a performance, thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Steve, really appreciate the comment 👍
Love the two slips on Shap... excellent video Steve 🚂🚂
Thanks Walter, it catches a few engines out at that location and it was well caught by the trainee driver I thought 👍
Super video Steve, especially the run down the valley ,bet it was chilly on the top of that bank. Well done 🤓
Thanks Anthony, pretty good display I thought especially on Shap as it was a trainee driver 👍
Great performance by the Guardsman today with a few slips. Good sweeping shot a Ais Gill.👍
Thanks David, a good day we thought with a decent climb on Shap and the S&C.
Great to see the Scot unassisted Steve, fine selection of shots from the day
Thanks Austin, just a shame the mic picked up the buzz from the overhead wires ☹️
Fantastic footage as always Stephen. Regards, Jake.
Cheers Jake , much appreciated as always 👍
Nice videoing at shap and aisgill Steve spot on 👌
Thanks Graham, a great day for us enthusiasts I must admit 👍
Cracking bit of footage there Steve. Shame about the buzz of the overheads.
Thanks Tom , not sure why the mic picked up the interference as it normally doesn’t when it’s attached to the camera and not the blimp on a lead 🤷

I've been suffering from a bit of buzz, when filming near the overhead lines. Tried various combinations of mics, and cables, but still haven't found a combination that works.
Fantastic footage as always Stephen
Thanks Alan , pleased you enjoyed the video 👍
Hi ,Steve ,Another Great capture .......Dave 🚂🚂👍👍
Cheers Dave 👍
@@TheStephengthompson ,Hi Steve ,Thanks for reply ,Great filming ...Dave🚂🚂😄👍👍👍
Very good camera work did you see 44932 this morning with 47804 on the back bye for now Philip
Thanks Michael, sadly I was at work and I’m very sorry for the late response ☹️
A notorious spot for loss of adhesion…I remember reading that there is a flange greasing point just where she slipped.
Thanks Vigsy, the flange lubricator catches most drivers out and I thought the trainee driver did well considering 👍
We was told by the guard on the train we hit 16mph going over the summit
Thanks Liam, sounds about right judging by the speed 👍
I was on the train that day and thought we may have to get out and push.
Great day out though
@@iangoodwin66 yea was a great day out in doing it again on the 18th march but the stop off is in Appleby this time
@Liam’s railway adventures is that picking up from Nuneaton again
@@iangoodwin66 it is yes as that’s where I’m getting on
