5 Easy Tricks to Teach Your Guinea Pig FIRST

- I get a lot of questions about which tricks are easiest to teach your guinea pig or which ones are best to start out with, so this video includes the 5 tricks I usually recommend, along with tutorials for each trick. Most guinea pigs learn these tricks pretty quickly, making them very beginner friendly.
3 of these tricks were tricks I introduced to TJ the first day I brought him home (paws up, stand up, and circle.) He also learned to go through a hoop and follow a target stick shortly after too. These 5 tricks are great because they're super adorable, but not incredibly difficult or time consuming to teach. They're perfect to help you bond with your guinea pig and get your training off on the right paw!

Love this video could I start training my piggies even if they are 2 years old. I tried training them when they were young but I didn't stick to it

My old piggie Ruby died a few months ago. One time I was scooping the poop in her cage, and she was following the poop scoop so I lifted it up in the air and she stood up! I kept practicing with her and sometimes she fell over on her back 😂 but every time before I gave her veggies, I had her stand up. Then after a few months of training, whenever she heard the fridge open and footsteps coming near, she would stand up on her own! She was such an awesome piggie. RIP Ruby ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I was training with watermelon and he’s smart so he was doing the circle and when I let my Guard done he yanked it and ran to lay In his house smart buger

TJ can be like that too sometimes haha. :P It might help to give him a small treat halfway around the circle to keep him focused. :)

The stand up one is the easiest for piggies to learn. Over half of my past pigs would stand up without me even teaching them! My boy nugget stands when he’s by himself lol he loves doing it. Thank you for this video!

Yes! They also each have unique personalities! My friend has a crested guinea pig and she is so smart. She is potty trained. She also will listen too. He just got another one and she is so jealous of the baby but doesn't hurt her thank goodness. She is so used to literally spending so much time with him out of the cage. It's like he became another piggy to her lol.

love it! thanks for these! I've taught my pigs to stand on my arm/hand and to twist, they trust me so much that they've started yeeting themselves off the sofa assuming I'm gonna guide them back into their carrier 😂 and they're only 4 months old! I love my girls so much 💕
Mine hops off the couch and goes in her cage by herself! I didn’t even teach her that 😂 she also knows to go to the cage in my room so I’ll set her down and she’ll run up the stairs and go into my room then into her cage ❤️

I tried doing the first one and it really worked!! Now my guinea pig does it without the treats but I do give him one after because I don’t want to disappoint him. I love Tj he’s so cute and I love his fur colour my guinea pigs black with brown and white bits on him. Thank you for your help and please can you do a video of how to keep your guinea pig happy because I want to gain his trust and know how guinea pigs can be happy because I might be getting one for my best friend and she has never had on before. Also that is such a smart piggie. One of mine can do all of these and one can do half of em(she is only 4 months so its not weird she has 0 patience lol) the third one literally doesn’t get anything xD The spin I’ve tried for a year and she still just falls over cause she’s too lazy to walk all around. She is a little diva too she loves to complain about everything 😂
Yes! Each one has a different personality! It is so crazy. They are really smart but some can be lazy.

I can't even express how much I love guinea pigs! They are literally the cutest and most lovable pets someone can have. Their little legs and round bodies are the cutest! The way they waddle! I wish they could live forever. 😢😢😢❤❤❤
I've taught my 3 piggies to do paws up and even put their front paws on my pinky finger, i think any tricks involving skin to fur contact are also really great for helping timid guinea pigs realise you're not a threat!
my newest rescue guinea pigs used to be very shy around me but now they jump up on my lap, alas not for strokes because they're super fidgets, but just because they're confident and want to investigate me 😂

This video is very usefull for guinea pig owners with guinea pigs who are actually active, unfortunately mine aren't; you can set them down on the floor and they won't go anywhere! I love them unconditionally though, they mean a lot to me. Today I got 3 new Guinea pigs from my mums friend to take care of for 2 weeks, they luckily are active, move and communicate a lot so I will definitely be trying this. Thanks! 🤍

My guinea pig is pretty tame so all I have to do now is teach her some tricks! Honestly I think I’m a pretty responsible GP owner. I’ve had her for a year now! ( her birthday is today April 13) I’m teaching her the first one in the list. She kinda gets it but I still have to lure her ;-;

One of my Guinea pigs did really well probably because he really likes to eat but the other one would just stand still and only his head would try and reach out to get the lettuce. After he couldn’t get it he just gave up.

Tricks
Find some veggies or fruits that you guinea pig likes, try putting some food in their chage and see what they like best. When you know what type of veggies or fruits your Guinea pig likes let him go out of his cage. And then try to feed them out of your hand. Get some big pieces then when he can grab from your hand then go to little pieces but not too small just the size of your own hand. Practise doing feeding your guinea pig. And then when you think he trusts you and you think that it is okay then you can feed him really small pieces. If your guinea pig doesn't move very much then you can buy him an exercise pan with treats in the ex pen and the treats are spread all around the ex pen so then they can wake around. And then you have the treat in your hand and drag it so the ginny pig will follow your hand. You can make it go in circles around an object.
My guinea pig stood up on its own when she was only 5,6 months
I had my piggie for 1 month 10 days
And she is 2 month old and she started to stand up
Both of ours piggies are smart

Thanks! :D I have a video for teaching them to come when called, but not responding to their name yet. However, teaching their name is usually pretty easy. Say their name in a happy tone of voice and feed them a treat each time. :) It takes a lot of repetition, but over time they'll start to respond to it more and more.
