A cricket's chirping sounds quite different in slow motion! [Snippet]

- If you watch until the end, you will get a new perspective on the way a cricket (or other insects and birds) express themselves. Notice how surprisingly different its stridulation sounds when heard with a faster ear (= played in slow motion). You can actually distinguish how many times he moves his wings!
Crickets belong to the Gryllidae family. They love the sun. He makes his house as a hole in the ground, and will not share it with anyone but his mate. They are mostly vegetarians and eat leaves, stems and grasses.

The bassline is so damn great on this track
I always thought they rubbed their legs together to chirp.
no you're thinking of crickets
@@rosco6033 No-grasshoppers rub their legs, crickets rub their wings

Thats what I was told

A tiny car..
Thanks Tool for bringing me here
Who's tool??
@@Janerexia A good band, they linked this video on their twitter a year ago
This new tool's album sounds solid
Crickets sound great until they are caught in a bedroom and couldn't be found for several days. When the bedroom was dark, it would chirp extremely loud. When the light was turned on the chirping quit - almost impossible to find. Finally located in the door jam of the French door. I'm finally getting some sleep.
😂
Thank you Tool for bringing so much attention to cricket chants! Did not expect this when recording this video 😄 Thank you for checking out our channel about insects everyone! :)
This. Is. Neccessary.
Life feeds on life
Am I the only one who finds crickets and other arthropods adorable? Being able to get close ups of their wings when they chirp is quite a novel experience!
Yes I have crickets as pets and they're absolutely adorable
I absolutely find crickets, grasshoppers and katydids adorable. I remember when I was a kid one day I had the opportunity to look very closely at a cricket while it was chirping. I was surprised to see how it was moving its wings, and not its legs how I was taught at school, so I immediately ran to tell my mom: "I have discovered how crickets chirp! They don't move their legs, they move their wings!" And unfortunately, my mom (who suffered from lifelong depression and was never curious about anything) did not understand why that would make me excited.
Another day I had told her I had spotted a western green lizard (a beutiful lizard found in Western Europe, with most of its skin dotted in green and black, except for its lower jaw and neck which are blue and black) and she came out with a can of bug spray.
As a general "rule of nature", the smaller a creature is, the faster their metabolism is, and conversely the larger they are, the slower their metabolic rate. Hence you have whales and elephants living a very long time, while small things like mice and insects live very short lives. It seems feasible to assume then that the very fast metabolic rate of a cricket would make the chirping sound to them the way it sounds to us when slowed down like this.
Their is absolutely no relations between metabolic rate and the way creatures perceive the world and time
@@danielgreen5803
That's actually not true. Small creatures like flies perceive time slower because they process sensory information faster
@@da4127 Right, HOWEVER. The point he's making is that crickets are smaller, therefore we hear it differently. I however dont see what the metabolic rate has to do with it as well.. however I get his point
@@zactellier4247 they definitively hear it differently but not necessarily slowed down,.He is saying that they live shorter lives because they are living in a different time dimension like flash, that's what makes no sense
@@da4127 If they can process information faster, they will also perceive things in Slow motion for us (it's not in slow motion for them, that's how they perceive real time).
Oh Tool.
I didn't think any Tool song could be better than the last one, but this one blew me away!
(That difference is legitimately crazy though, wow.)
Oh my god that’s adorable
Sounds like an alarm clock in slow motion
What started as a quest to figure out why bush crickets have such large balls, has ended here, in the form of slow mo cricket chirping
Cool! What I get from this is that maybe not all living things on this planet live equally fast in time as we think. Maybe these insects hear it like this in realtime (for us slow mo). Hmm interesting...
yes, I was thinking about that too... Maybe !
I think that's very much the case. Ever wondered why flies move so quickly when they're about to get swatted? I saw a documentary featuring this theory many years ago.
Sounds like someone read Terry pratchette xD
This sound could actually be used as a sample. Though it's posted as a prank, it's still cool.
I like listening to the sound of crickets, loud
very impressive! Bravo!
Thank you
Sweet music.

Once Upon a Time, there was a little Cricket chirping in a beautiful sight.
The mouse named squeak. She was worried about everything.
My cricket just started talking to it
Dang thats interesting
Slow it down even more to 0.25 and you will hear how there is a downwards glissando in the sound. This is due to the wing decelerating at the end of its stroke. Cool, right?
Amazing
" the moon and the stars. And you can see nighttime bugs like lightning bugs, moths, and listen to those crickets."
The cricket was terrified by the mosquito.
START YOUR ENGINE !!!
Thanks tool
"I'll show you!" The mosquito say.
when it was slowed down it kinda sounded cute, then i remembered its their cry to fuck
I came here because a cricket got into my house and won't shut up and I can't find it so I got curious and now it's 4am and I need to get up early fuck this

Squeak: I can tell you something horrible.
New Time Signature?
I was brought here because I was randomly thinking about the family guy gag about the cricket with RLS and then my mind wondered to why they chirp. I hate how my brain takes me to weird places
Is this the new Tool album! Finally! 😁

That's because you lowered the pitch at the same time. You could've just slowed down the video without lowering the pitch.
