  • The Rockover is one of the fundamental movement techniques for climbing, but most people don't know or understand the basic principles.
This video goes from the most basic drill to a run and jump on a volume as well as a board climb.
The rocker technique is simple and highly effective - essential for all climbers, so join Robin as he teaches you all the does and don'ts!
A big thank you to Kilter for letting us use their facility (and for creating their amazing boards).

The video thumbnail initially made it look like you were climbing the ladder tucked behind the climb which for me was perfect. New climbers often leave weight on the back leg as they move up, asking the question ‘is that how you climb a stair or a ladder’ quickly illustrates the idea behind the rock over. Really love this small - and hopefully - growing channel!

    Thx, nice video.
I am climbing for several years now, but never really had such a clear structured explanation of the rockover. This should really help me 😊

So I watched this last week, and thought it was good but felt like I already knew most of it. Then I did a couple of climbing sessions - now I think this is one of the most helpful videos I've seen. It's so useful to be confident in these fundamental movements! Even just having a clear idea of where it's best to smear with my other foot when rocking over has made a material difference in my climbing
If you keep making videos like this that dig deep into fundamental movements, I will watch all of them haha

    • @roapcoaching917

Ahh, thank you. It’s so common for us all to think we have strong fundamental comprehension and then when reviewing why we fall off harder climbs (subjectively) it typically comes down to the fundamentals again! Lol
Absolutely, this Sunday we should be releasing THE most important movement drill there is! Psyched.
      Thanks for watching

Absolutely loving the content team. This is exactly what I was looking for, explicit instruction of how to do specific climbing moves. Keep it coming! Query, could you make your titles more specific? Titles like, 'Are you doing this or doing that?' doesn't help viewers know what's in the vid! Maybe mention the names of the techniques your teaching in your vid titles? E.g., 'Are you doing this or that in your rockovers?' Dunno, just an idea. Cheers : )

Thanks for the comment. I know! We agree, but the CZcams algorithms don’t support it unfortunately. We make sure that in the key words, you can search “rockover” and it comes up.
The next few vids will be on movement drills! The most important one is next!!

Great video! I climb V6-V7 and I still use my arms a lot, but I try not to.
I do use dynamic movements, but usually big ones.
I knew what a rockover was, but I did not realize how much easier a climb can be by using your hips like you demonstrated here.
This is probably something many people think they do right, but fail to understand the concept behind a rockover and how important it is to use movement and technique instead of power.
This also ties well into balancing on the wall, which of course, I struggle with more than anything.
Thank you for making this video! Super interesting and well thought out :D

    • @roapcoaching917
      @roapcoaching917  Před 8 měsíci +1

Completely agree. And we are guilty of not executing perfectly all of the time either. It’s too easy to become over-reliant on the arms. But this can add up, especially on routes. But the difficulty of the move may just throw you off on a boulder if not well-executed.
We appreciate your comment, view and support! 👊

Great video! If only your channel and Hannah's had been around 30 years ago, I wouldn't have baked in so much lousy technique. BTW: I love the concept of the drill board too. My gym has a moon board and three spray boards but nothing vertical or slabby for practicing progressions on.

@@roapcoaching917 Did a coaching session this afternoon and it was all about straight arms, long neck, proud chest, hips close to the wall and hips initiate movement to the next hold. All the stuff I failed to learn to integrate 30 years ago. You can try to learn, say, straight arms but if you don't integrate that with the other bits, you won't progress.

    • @billking8843
