Now that cricket is an officially declared olympic sport, the powerhouses of cricket, namely AUSTRALIA, ENGLAND and INDIA must step up their efforts to spread this game and now start to make serious efforts to propagate thie sporting culture in a much more professional manner. Just national cricket boards along with ICC is not enough. Powerful governments of england, india and australia must step in not only in funding but also executing this humongous task to happen

When you don't take time to understand a game, or immerse yourself in the game despite understanding the rules then it becomes boring and weird. I didn't get into football at the start, but once I got behind a team and understood the rules I fell for it. I didn't much care for cricket until I started looking at footage of IPL games and highlights of the new league, and now I'm starting to appreciate the game.

There's no lunch or tea break in this format, and this is the format in which the IPL is played. IPL has become the second biggest league in the world, if it was boring, it would never have been the case. I do know about the recent changes in cricket and it's leagues, following American type sports, not that there is anything wrong with it.. I grew up watching cricket for 15 years, still follow a bit. But people of India are hell bent on cricket ignoring all other national sports.

But I realised that it is the best format of cricket, because the pitch conditions, moving ball and the duration bring in so many challenges for the players and only the best can survive there. It's like Le Mans in racing. This is why best of the best players prefer test cricket. However, test cricket is not the format which can become global. When a match between a strong side and a weak side is played, it becomes incredibly boring. That's why T20 format is the only format which can become global.
IPL is played in the T20 format and it is a carnival which most people would enjoy.
The reason why other sports haven't succeeded that much in India is not just limited to Cricket. It's because of the lack of sporting facilities, government control of those sports and their apathy towards it. It's only this decade that we are seeing people do well in other sports in India. It will get better with time. But blaming Cricket for every issue is wrong

That is one thing India definitely needs to learn from US, various sports that are played and encouraged in the country right from elementary schools and quality of the games being played whether it is NFL or NBA or NHL and then many olympic sports. The gap between developed countries like South Korea, Japan and a developing nation India was lesser this time. Good to see this growth. For olympics, it needs to be played in at least 38 countries. Kabaddi right now is only played in 24 or so. Cricket is there in 100+ countries, even if most of them play it at a lower level.
