Thanks for watching. Please give us a thumbs up if you enjoyed the video.
Laurence this is a brilliant idea for people just starting out, literally step by step. And trying to get infront is a great idea. Also thought the delivery and ease of understanding was well presented.
Ah thank you. Very kind of you to say so!
Thanks for the video Laurence, very helpful.
Great step by step demonstration
A enjoyable video. I’m looking forward to watching more.
That was really helpful, especially about honey bound frames preventing expansion. Ta for the time and effort you put in for our benefit.
super helpful :)
ty so much for this series!
Really helpful thanks, second inspection due this weekend. It’s been interesting seeing so many different colours of pollen going in.
Just watched this while eating some of your soft set on toast amazing. It sure tastes amazing.
Perfect 🥰
Another great video..just been on a bee keeping course today..recommended your channel to everyone😉.keep up the great work👍
Nice one Mark.
Many thanks for the recommendation. Much appreciated.
Hope you enjoyed your course.
Hi Lawrence, thanks for your videos and particularly for this series. As a new beekeeper they’re really useful. Would it be possible to add appropriate date information e.g. “first week of May” as CZcams only give a very rough guide to when it was posted such as “a year ago”?
Hi laurence, so do you recommend 1 litre of syrup a week while they draw out the foundation? I'm on 14x12.
Yeah. If they have taken it all down in a day or two and there is still plenty of foundation to draw you can increase. Just try to avoid overfeeding
Would you ever consider adding another brood box if you felt the bees were expanding very fast?
Yes. Depends on the strain. Some do very we'll on double brood
Buckfast bees?
Great series.
Can you use syrups like Invertbee rather than 1:1 sugar syrup ?
Yes..Sure can. Way more expensive and you can water it down a bit as that's a 2:1 syrup. They will use it fine though to draw out foundation
Also you said put the frame of capped stores in the freezer-how long do you leave it there?
Until you need it :(
Hi
Great video and great advice .
My second inspection on my first nuc is due Sunday so these videos are really useful.
If my bees have drawn out all the frames and have stores and brood in all stages would you not then add the honey super at that point?
We generally add another box once the bees cover 80% of the frames in the box below :)
@@BlackMountainHoney thanks for the reply much appreciated.
If you say the hive is honey bound, why not put a super on, so that they take the food upstairs?
Bit too much feed in the frames at the moment. I'll swap them out and give them a break from feeding then QX and super next week. Just to avoid any syrup in the supers
New beekeeper , first hive inspection today, is it too late to change frames to “warm” mine are currently set cold as per diagram when built my Thornes national hive ( watched your vid on those 👍) kind regards
Laurence, with sugar syrup in the brood nest, after you add a super, are the bees likely to move any upstairs?
Yes. They certainly will if it's not capped. That's why we replace the worst affected frames with foundation and use them to make up nucs
What exact month does this happen ?
Nucs are available from mid April (ish) in the UK
@@BlackMountainHoney thank you ..
How do you see the diference between syrup and honey in stores?
Only by uncapping. Our syrup is clear.
@@BlackMountainHoney thank you so much for the info! Simply love all the info and videos!! Are big fan t shirts allready out?? :) :) Enjoy!
@@climb315 they will be when we hit 10k subs :) Not long to go!
Great video! When you mention 80% before adding a super.
Does that include drawn comb/empty or do you mean drawn comb + filled by brood/stores/eggs?
bees covering 80% of the frames.
How to increase the population of hive please tell me
time plus gentle feeding
