Sorry for late reply :-) You need to start with short range ones 15 or 20m, precision requires a lot of practice and experimentation. In the beginning the further it goes the further you will walk and the slower you will understand and progress and build muscle memory.
You need a smaller lift/drag ratio for it starts turning later and slower after the throw, also for an existing one you can experiment with adding (and moving) weight near the tip of the leading arm and the elbow, you may double the range. Denser and thinner materials (~3mm) are also preferable to thick plywood. Long distance and long range are different boomerang types. You can find a lot of info searching for an online verison of "ultimate boomerang book pdf", also you can ask James Hoy on Facebook who made this boomerang. This boom is not a long distance one "only" 60m I guess, the actual flight time is around 10 seconds.
Luc, what is the speed setting on your camera that you recorded this at? I am trying to get the real time duration that this mt. Fuji is doing while in the air.
Actual flight time is around 10sec, I shot the videos with my phone in full HD at 240fps played at 30fps (1/8th speeed) then I convert them to add edge detection and to play them at half speed in 60fps using ffmpeg (else the boomerang is invisible, even before compression) I'm using this script to do it in a single operation to minimize quality loss gist.github.com/luxigo/bcebfcc5d01bd73fb4717cf8fa76f9ca
