I have to say novel wise I enjoyed the sign of the four over a study in scarlet. The first 2 short story collections were enjoyable to me; however, I can really see why people enjoy the Hound of The Baskervilles so much out of the other novels.
I'm currently reviewing and documenting my thoughts on what I've read with the complete canon of Sherlock Holmes and I'm astounded I didn't pick the stories up sooner. 🙂❤📚

As always, it's preference. For me, the Hound of the Baskervilles has always been the odd one out: more horror than myster and very occult-influenced. Some people like it for those exact reasons, I personally can think of better authors for those genres.

Totally agree with you on a study in scarlet , I started my holmes adventures with the hound of the baskervilles and found it so much more enjoyable , I think if I had started with a study in scarlet I may have been a put off a bit. Don’t get me wrong it’s still a fantastic story but I did feel the second part dragged a little.

It almost feels like there are two different stories glued together to get an entire book sometimes 😂

The finest Sherlock Holmes novel I've ever read, and certainly the most exciting, is The Seven Per Cent Solution by Nicholas Meyer. It is a heart pounding, nail biting thriller. Thanks to my favorite aunt, an English teacher, I grew up with my nose in a book. By the time I was 13, I'd read everything I could find by Twain and Conan Doyle. Your assessments are true. Nicely done.

I personally like the Cthulhu Casebooks series by James Lovegrove, a strange mix of Conan Doyle and Lovecraft, which I would never had thought would work, but wonderfully do so.

I have always liked the Holmes stories, but never really 'liked' Holmes.. Watson, however, is another story..
The Hound is by far his best.. all the short stories narrated by Watson are top notch..
The other three novels leave much to be desired.. The Sign of Four and the first part of 'Scarlet' are acceptable..
I read Challenger for kicks.. it was weak, but somehow interesting at the same time..
Not into the occult at all.

I genuinely really enjoy these videos. I started out having no interest in reading any Conan Doyle but you've definitely piqued my interest in his works now!

    1. I love Sherlock Holmes. Excellent choices and I completely agree with your selection.
    2. I can think of too many authors that could have been accepted at the same time.
