- Possibly the best of the tales from The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, Arthur Conan Doyle's last collection of stories featuring the inimitable consulting detective.
The Adventure of the Retired Colourman was first published in Liberty magazine in 1926, and entered the public domain in the U.S.A. on January 1st 2022.
There is only one more Sherlock adventure to record this year: that is The Adventure of the Three Gables.
[Two of the short stories from The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, "The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger" and "The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place", are the last two Sherlock Holmes works still protected by copyright in the U.S.A. They will enter the public domain on 1 January 2023]
However, this channel has all the rest of the Sherlock Holmes stories including the novels.

The story is read and produced by me, Greg Wagland, for Magpie Audio. - Zábava
Please don't ever take these down. They are the only thing that calm mind sometimes. Now I can barely remember my life before them. I hope you know how much they help people in more ways than just entertainment.
Hey Courtney
these stories and your fine narration help keep me from depression. thank you.
Hang in there, @sebatianmelmoth9100
❤
I agree. These stories remind me that quality and care still exist in an increasingly slip shod world.
I keep a horse for the exercise he gives me. It's taken a year to have him shod.
Will you be surprised it's a slip shod job, in the true, original, sense of that phrase? 😏
No matter, he can grow more hoof in response to the saddle hiking we're doing. He carries the saddle and we hike!
As a rescue from the slaughter pen, every step is a victory!
These stories still drawing a wide, appreciative audience is another victory for civility, professionalism, and decernnent. Thank you so much.❤
I HAVE NO WORDS OF THANK YOU...I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT YOUR RECORDINGS...LOVE THEM ALL
This is the story that scares me the most with the murder method. Another brilliant performance by Mr. Wagland. I am sorry that there are only a few unrecorded stories left. I listen to your version of the Holmes stories over and over again. Many thanks.
“Cut out the poetry, Watson!” Note how our irascible detective interrupts not only his BFF, but the author himself!
🤣
I was just thinking Watson was playing with fire again waxing lyrically , when that exclamation hit! I burst into laughing out loud! 😂😂😂
Very rude!

Brilliantly read by Greg Wagland at the right pace and with perfect variations of intonation
thank you Mr. Wagland!
Thank you so much. You made my 18 hour Hospital stay bearable. I was stuck in basement overflow pod. At least I had a real bed, not just a gurney in the hall. I had no window, but I had Wi-Fi & thus I had you & this channel. I listen to one a night before bed, my father read to me at night. Now you read to me every night Greg Wagland.
Feel better, Annie!
Get well soon, dear fellow traveller.
What a treat! Thank you.
so happy you're still uploading more! it's a great way to entertain myself while working from home. your narration is as always excellent and i've become so used to your voice for holmes that i can hardly listen to anyone else reading these stories now.
If you don't mind my asking, what work from home specialty do you utilize?
Thank you so very much. We all love you, man...
Knocking these stories out of the park, Greg, you do something very special. Thank you! 🌹
I am currently in hospital with sepsis. Your voice is such a comfort. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Oh my! My prayers are with you for a full recovery.
Hope you feel better he is the best
@@wmnoffaith1 Thank you. Slowly but surely I'm getting there. Your kind thoughts are much appreciated.
@@karenbanks5985 Thank you. He is. No competition. He even outdoes Sir John Gilgood's versions, and they're quite good.
Hope you're doing ok! Best wishes
So excited to see a new Holmes story! Cannot thank you enough 🥰
Thank you! 😊
The best Holmes audiobooks on YT. Thank you.
What a nice surprise to get the treat of a new story this morning.
Your reading is excellent as always Greg, after 15? years of doing readings your character voices are still the same and on point. A true artist.
Thank you good sir.
When I was a little girl I used to sneak into the garage, “borrow” my Dad’s transistor radio, put it under my pillow, and fall asleep listening to the Mystery Theatre series.
I was also a huge fan of ghost and mystery stories and couldn’t wait until I could get my hands on the next Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, or Trixie Belden book.
I don’t know why, but I never read any of the Sherlock Holmes stories, but I had seen a few of the old movies which I loved.
When I first discovered your channel I decided to listen to one of the Sherlock Holmes stories and I was instantly hooked.
You bring these characters to life in such a wonderful way, and your voice is a wonderful bedtime tonic for someone who has suffered from insomnia since her early twenties.
I have two more to go and I must say I am sad that this journey is coming to an end.
I am quite fond of Sherlock and Dr. Watson and have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of their adventures.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share these stories and your incredible talents with the World. 🤗🥰
What a great comment/s. Many thanks!
I do some voice recording for my own business but I doubt my ability stretches to GW's ability to be several characters. For those less fortunate than most of us, without the wonderful gift of eye sight, these must be simply mesmerising. Sincerely well done again. There can never be enough of such productions. Sheer class 👏
Thank you for a wonderful treat today. This world needs more Sherlock.
So sad there's only 3 more stories left! One more this year and two more next year. I eagerly await their release and I will not read or listen to any of those materials before your release! Thank you Mr Wagland!
Thank you for sharing all these Sherlock Holmes stories. I never heard of this one, that twist at the end had a very modern feel.
It does!
Timely message at the end. Be alert, be free, be happy. I second that wish for all. I am listening on the 4th of March, 2022. I have been so disheartened and frightened and weary today with watching the news. 💙💛🕊Thank you for taking me outside of myself for a while with your gifted narration. You have done that so often for me the past two years. Thank you, Greg.
Lovely Comment!
Let's keep caring for innocent animals, babies, toddlers and Enjoying Nature!
Even just the little humble bugs going about their daily tasks 🥰
We're not the only Kingdom are we?
There's OTHER MAMMALS WORLD, the INSECT WORLD, the WORLDS OF THE OCEANS
I can't go to bed without my dose of these now
Take two nightly.
Thank you most excellent 💕
Wonderful recording as usual!! Thank you :)
Seeing a new one of these is like Christmas. Thank you Greg.

Thanks for this Greg :)
Thanks again! I can never repay you for all the hours of joy that you have provided for me!

Yes the freedom is an issue isn‘t it just at the moment. Enjoyed the reading. I had completely forgotten this one
Thought I’d heard all the Sherlock Holmes stories? So exciting to see a new one✊♥️
Wonderful! Another one I hadn't previouly come across, too! Thank you very much, Simon.
Thanks for turning a crap day into a good one.
Lovely narration once again.
Thank you so much 🙏I have been waiting for this for a while!
Honestly Greg you’re the best
The greatest stories ever told. Sherlock Holmes is an absolute pleasure
Please. Do the rest as well. These stories have been my lifeline for a while now.
Thank you, Uncle Greg!
As usual, Greg, you bring Holmes and Watson to life with your readings. Well done and thank you very much. Once we have the full set next year, what a glorious archive we can visit forever! Your voicing is as evocative of Holmes and Watson to me as are the illustrations of Sydney Paget. Thank you!
A new story, what a treat! Recovering from pneumonia on top of emphysema, no energy to read, so thank you very much. Mr Wagland to the rescue, again. Great story.
Ah! I couldn't figure out which story it was going to be! Excited to listen tonight 🖤
You bring so much joy to Sherlock fans like us......a new story is such a treat
...... though read this a long time ago.......but so great in your addictive voice.....
Oooh! Yesssss! A new one! Thank you so much! X
Classic!
As well as flawlessly read.

I've finally finished my journey through Sherlock. I must say that these were excellent audiobooks mr. Wagland, so I thank you very much.
I’m living with extreme pain post road traffic accident. This beautifully narrated story has taken me up to a calm cloud for a while: so so grateful!!
Glad you found a calm cloud. I hope you feel better soon. Have you tried Hound of the Baskervilles as a distraction? All the best, Greg
Oh this sounds good, pathetic an futile. 😜 Keeping it for later this evening!
I did it! I finished listing to every single one of Sherlock holmes in order!
Bravo!
Thanks Gregg.
Another excellent reading of a grisly murder unread and not heard before. 10/10
Appreciate all the updates. These tales are wonderful
I started listening last night. I think you have surpassed yourself in this reading. I wouldn't have thought it were possible. Even the sound seems better. Thanks!

My cat, shadow:👁👄👁
Brilliant! A copy of the Sherlock Holmes stories has been on my bedside table since I was twelve years old. First in German, as soon as I could manage it, in English. A facsimile of the way the stories were printed in the Strand Magazine, including the original illustrations. These stories have accompanied me for almost forty years and are like my security blanket. And the way you perform them is just perfect, thank you so very much!
What a lovely surprise to see another Sherlock Holmes story! Thank you, Greg! A pleasure to listen to, as always!
Brilliant thank you
I must say I absolutely love both your reading and community. Your readings are absolutely the best to listen to on repeat and I can easily look at the comments as everyone respectfully does not give any spoilers. Keep up the wonderful work!
Brilliant!! Thank you, Greg!
Lots of fun . thank you Greg.keep it up.
Thanks for the new upload
Much appreciated
Woo hoo! Thanks Greg. I hope alls well. *Pauses The ring of Thoth*
you do these so well, Greg, bravo!
Another one of my favorites... especially with you reading! Thanks so much!!
Very pleasant surprise ...and....the usual highly versatile and original tonal range I have come to know and love
You're back! Great stuff.
Thank you, Mr. Wagland!
Excellent narration. Not only this saves my time from reading the book while doing other activities but also teaches how to narrate the stories to my students and even me. Keep doing the great work 💯👏
Gosh, this reading is magnificent. I'm a pretty good reader myself, but this is expertise at a very high level that I could never hope to match.
Kind of you Angus. Cheers
The world needs Sherlock in 2022 the only man that can fix this big f ing mess our Politicians have created all over the world. Mr Greg you have to take over what Mr. Arthur Conan Doyle left off you are the man for the job! Will you help us!! The world is counting on you!!
It was only a matter of time before an idiot brings current events in the equation when, at the end of the day, we are all here to escape. SMH *sigh*
Fantastic. Thank you.
😄 thanks GW 😄
I'm pretty sure I heard Mr Wagland turn up a few times on my sons audio books introductions, great to hear him some more.
This was a great little episode! And superbly performed. You surpass yourself Mr. Wagland! And I like the new sign off. Be alert! Like mr. Holmes !
I love your reading! Can't wait for the next Sherlock Holmes story! You deserve a lot more subs

I love this channel. Your Sherlock rivals Mr Brett for me. I'm so happy to listen to this today, but sad to think there are (potentially) only two left.....🥺
Keegs, we can start from the beginning & enjoy each reading yet again. I will be.
@@iriswaterford8881 for at least 2 years now, this channel has lulled me to sleep. 😆
@@keegs4369 same! But a touch longer… been here since 2018, can’t believe it’s gone by so fast!
Another brilliant reading! ❤️

Oh lovely! It's always a joy to hear a new story. I hadn’t actually read this one before so this was extra delightful. Thank you! :)
