You don't need school, you can be self taught and be successful
Yes 33 years of sewing. Self taught pattern maker. Love you tube and Google research.
Reopend my business 6 months ago. Sofar only happy customers.
Did my 1st " commercial" job at 13.
The industry is not glam at all. Work work work and many all nighters to pull rabbits out of hats. But what I can say is although I am very critical of my work I do love the satisfaction when my clients are happy with my work. BTW I have a certificate in Project manager and my field is Fashion. I love upcycling and hate watse. Nigal Xavier is a great inspo.
Facts if you love it you can do it. Even Yeezy job posts say degrees don't matter they want to see your portfolio and work you actually done
Yeah right.... in what world?
@@TASHAMARAIS-bv4pq That is so cool!! Good job! How did you start when you say you learn them on your own? Wasn't it difficult to understand patterns ,how to sew?
@@gogorapt1879 Hi I started learning from a book by Phylliss Hoffman.
She has plenty books about sewing.
My journey started back in 2000.
You tube videos make it so easy these days.
You start by learning how to draw a basic bodice.
All you need is a ruler a large piece of paper and a pencil or pen.
Thoughtful creativity on You tube make things so easy.
As an afterthought, this is some good information about fashion design. I won the best dressed award two years in a row (3rd, 4th grade), and as a young girl it put a lot of pressure on me. Fortunately, my mother was in charge of my wardrobe choices, but she always took me shopping for clothes, showed me things, and allow me to pick out things. Everything was the typical children's clothing, nothing fancy or pricey. I subscribed to all the fashion magazines, which helped to form my taste in clothes. I spent time researching different schools, and visited some in NY and one in California. I never made it to fashion school, but I did earn some certificates in fashion. As I got older, I think of my friendship with women, and realized that it is good to have a good following which I don't have. I thought maybe being a designer of women's clothing was not in the cards for me. So, I'm comfortable with learning how to sew, which I found out that fashion designers do the sketches, come up with the ideas, but I love sewing clothes. I wanted to sew because my older sister used to make clothes. My mom bought her a sewing machine and supplies, so she sewed at home. She was an encourager in me wanting to pursue that dream.
I don’t have a degree , but I been sewing for more then 20 years , I don’t make millions but its a satisfying feeling that I’m doing what I love, also the designs I can probasell them oinline
I want to go to scad and i want to major in Fashion Design, Im 14 year old and it truly is my dream to study fashion, I’ve always been fascinated by runway fashion and art, my whole life all i cared about and only earlier this year i found out that art school was a thing i didn’t even know it existed😂. I personally dont think i would be disappointed in studying any form of art, like art is literally everything to me and just the thought of getting taught things about art really just makes me happy. I even went to scad day with my family and was fascinated by what they had to offer. So im glad people are making videos like this give me a lot of insight.
I graduated from SCAD in 2020 with a BFA in Fashion Design. I think everything she’s said is valid. I haven’t found a job yet or had enough money to start my own collection.I challenge you to start interning now. Go to businesses that correlate with your brand and aesthetic and see if they have intern opportunities. Actually build your portfolio. Make a 8 look collection. These are things I wish I told my 14yr self.
@@kahmanizeon omg i committed to scad for fashion design and i want to ask if you like the curriculum
Start doing loads of object/nature drawings now as this is the basis for an art, fashion degree.
Mond you in 2023 there's digital art also, which is fun!
Also, you can do work experience, so maybe talk with parents and apply now. Contact all the designers in London?
I did w.e with Zandra Rhodes. Her fabrics were beautiful, but I disliked using children in Asia to do the Embroidery and Not paying them.
@@kahmanizeonI also started fashion design and digital art at 13 years old, I always wanted them to be created but I didn't know how
Sameee I wanted to go to scad
It’s giving tipsssssss🙏🏼 Love the tip about deciding your niche! People don’t realize how vast fields are.
Interesting to see your view on LCF. I graduated 2003 and must say it was a great experience that I would not want to miss. Take care.
This is so so helpful. Thank you so much!!!!
I love ur video.i am aspiring to be a fshion student nd trust me ur vid touched d depth of my hrt....
I am 13 years old and I LOVE fashion. Sewing makes me happy and the thought of fashion runways or anything about fashion makes me feel inspired. Ever since I was 6 years old I loved drawing designs and I wanted to make them real. At 8 years old I discovered fashion designers, I didn't know they existed 😅 but ever since, I knew I wanted to become one. But the thing is, I am worried I don't have time to develop my sewing skills and a lot of people says that there's a very low chance of me becoming successful because being a fashion designer is hard here in the Philippines. Now, I am considering being a lawyer but I still feel like it's not for me. I want to become a fashion designer to make special occasions be more special for the clothes that they wear and I want to make people feel beautiful and comfortable with what they are wearing, I want them to speak through what they wear. But somehow, I feel like I won't be able to do that because I don't have a lot of experiences and I don't even know how to sew right. I feel like giving up on the dream that I have ever since I was young.
baby, you will win experience with the time you spend in this, follow your dreams and don’t listen what the people say about what you need or not to be a successful fashion designer, you will be successful if you really work on that, believe more in yourself.
Well done. Very informative video. I went to LCF in the late 80's to 90's.
It was fabulous. I happily did the Embroidery option, but some classmates were unhappy they didn't get into the F Design only route.
I had a fantastic time.
It may be a good idea to do a video to warn the potential students about some of the Instructors.
One of the men back in the day was a pervert, Predator invited me for a coffee on a museum outing.
I didn't go, but I also didn't report him.
Wilnique’s favorite words: “Oh my goodnesss” 😂😂
I like your video and you explained it in such a funny way 😂
I’ve graduated from LCF in 2009 with BA in Fashion & Clothing. I was lucky, because when I started I just paid £900 a year. I was a home student. Right before 4th year of my graduation they changed the finance plan. It started to cost £3,500 for home students & something like £7,000+ for foreign students. Good knows how much it costs now. However, we were allowed to complete our degree continuing paying £900 per year. Btw, it was part-time BA program, two evenings a week and one Saturday. What can I say? Fashion/Design is very broad degree. Some of us ended up working in retail headquarters for various jobs such as merchandising & buying (me), I didn’t need to have buying degree. But, I work in marketing now (it suits my personality better) One girl ended up working as head technologist at Karen Millen. One girl is senior manager at Burberry Head Office at some department. One girl ended up teaching at LFC on the same course, later got promoted to course leader role. But she continues to study all her life, now wants to do PHD. The best thing that I gained from this college - the best friends for life. We still meet together so many years later. We travel together. Studying there, was the best decisiob of my life.
HI sweet friend

Hey.. how are the opportunities over there now after studying fashion merchandising or management.. can I know as I'm not from London
omg i want to do the same course! what did your application look like?
Thanks for sharing❤I’m an international student and preparing to apply for fashion colleges in London.your video pushed me to rethink about my interest and my dream life in the near future
Are you still planning to pursue fashion college
Did you go to london?
Does the same apply to taking fashion imaging and illustration because it is less of a business degree and more creative
Thank you, but i have a question...it is possible to work in fashion industry after doing MBA (but not specialise in a fashion business) ??
Hey this is my passion and what exhilarates me and what I wanna do with my life, my dream job but since I studied math in school I’m currently studying financial math. Will switching would be worth it?
Hi, your video is what i needed now. I am a self trained menswear designer and what i wanna do is to become a lecturer in fashion design. What are the pathways to becoming a fashion educator
I'm here because, Fashion is my dream job and I got fashion certificate. I'm trying to see what can I do with this certificate before I get a degree
I would disagree… it’s impossible to find a fashion job without a degree unless you start through retail and that’ll take decades to get out of…..
I love fashion. I have a lot of ideas to design clothes. I am creative enough
I'm in 11th grade and I think I finally have an Idea of what I want in the future. My heart belongs to picking Fashion and Arts course but my brain wants me to pick Hospitality and tourism management. Gosh, it's just soo hard. 😭
Shit man!! same situation 😭
Maybe major in fashion and minor in hospitality?
youuuuu slayyyyy gurllllll
what do you do now? Do you work in fashion?
Not me dying to go to LCF- never clicked on a video so fast xD
HI sweet adish
Well someone should have sat me down and told me all of those things too😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 listen lindaa
@@wilniquehartHI sweet wilin u single
That is so true, lots of ppl I knw
well I'm gonna be way too honest here but I need some help. I want to be a fashion designer. I love clothes, I love styling them, I love styling people, I love drawing sketches, watching runways. fashion influencers inspire me and give me new ideas on what could I possibly create. Art itself is everything to me. I'm 18 years old, I have exams in one month for my Uni acceptance and the subject I'm going for is English Philology. Don't get me wrong, I love English (not my first language) and all I am surrounded by in everyday life is English, this language has helped me a lot and as it is an International language it's beneficial in every profession. Despite up mentioned things I want more...I wanna taste of how it feels for someone to wear something I created, like imagine someone wearing a wedding dress you made for them???...I want to be in touch with brands I grew up looking up to, Imagining myself in their creations and the benefit of that is the people you meet along the way. It is kinda stupid, but the thought of meeting famous people is there while thinking of going for fashion and attending runways feel so exciting too, though it isn't the only reason yk. I know it is not easy, especially for someone like me, from a small country people rarely know about and there's also a financial crisis too but that's why I'm hoping on these 4 years of my Uni while I work, save up and earn enough to achieve my dream. I can't imagine myself outside art. I want to create art, I want to be seen for my talent, I want to represent my dear country Georgia 🇬🇪, i want to work in a space that I enjoy and most importantly I want to support my family. All in all, I'm scared of the future, disappointments and the unachieved dream that will eat me from inside and out so please give me some closure and any advice on what to do, I really need some help and others perspectives
that quote is hard
Best❤❤❤
I wanna do fashion marketing, is that good?
is LCF a considered university or more of a vocational school? since its a constituent college of a whole other university im not quite sure its still considered uni
It’s still considered a university
@@KehindeOdeyemi omg thank u sm!! 💗
Hi dear, I am applying for job in fashion I am not getting any reply I don't know what to do. I am an international student I have done bachelors and masters in design but It is becoming so hard for me to follow my dreams to step into fashion industry in London. I don't know what do 😬Thankyou in advance ❤️
I’m going to study fashion business at Polimoda this October and I’m having like a crisis of second thoughts, because I also love astrophysics and I don’t know what to do 😭😭 but I really love fashion
Hi sweet Isabel
goodluck!!
Hi, this was really helpful but kinda confused me more😅 i actually want to become a fashion stylist and i am still confused about the course that i should pursue for that. Can you plz help.
You should study fashion communication / fashion marketing!
Could you please give me information on fashion psychology at LCF. I have an offer but I want to be sure before I move to another country to pursue it :””””
Hi Theon, unfortunately I didn’t do fashion psychology so I have no idea about the program😫 so sorry
I plan on doing that too! I'm an international student so I don't really know the procedure, please lmk if you find anything :))
Please give me a review at University of Bedfordshire (Fashion department) and University for the creative arts (Fashion textiles)
I love fashion but i wouldnt go to school for it, but in reality jobs want 4 years exp or a bachelors. But in reality the experience is better because you've been tested, as opposed to reading a book or being taught and having nothing of your own. But this concept is with any job.
I wanna be a fashion designer and I'm 8 years old
We love using " oh my goodness! " in Britain 😃
LOOOL. Didn’t even realize i said it so much 🙈
What do these people who tailor abayas, bridal gowns, kids wear study?
Hii beautiful, do u think Fashion Management is better than fashion design ?
I think this video is just to discourage people honestly
it wasn't really discouraging tho she just gave things to be aware of before going she never said not to go or that it wasn't worth. it's a reality check
I am from India❤ i would like to become a fashion designer and some people are said that it is useless course and it is waste of time.😢.is it true😢
No
i studied fashion design in India, and if you really like it, it will be worth it. i cry about how hectic work is, but at the end of the day, I'm satisfied with what i am doing
@@preranajoshi2661 thank you for your experience
In India it's may be not useless, you have a big country and the growing market. It's more useless in western countries which produce thousands of designers each year but do not have a lot of population potential customers and vacancies
Are you Bahamian?? I loved your video btw🥰
Yes I am and thank you🥰🥰
Please can I study fashion design without me been able to draw?
No
My mind is also thinking same as what the girl told u...😂😂😂 meet celebrities ..😕but i think this is not happening what i think
Please if u want to study shoe design whats the course called?? Cos I want to go into shoe and bag design but don't know what the course is called
Try product-industrial design
shoe ware
I have studied this, you can search for footwear design or goods design (product design)
Try Polimoda, Italians have a lot of footwear brands, it would be easier to find a stage after
Lol meet famous people and go to parties 😂😂😂
Chileee...lol meanwhile I'm over here trying work these fits.
Are you from the Caribbean ?
You sound like an islander
Off topic but I just noticed if and got curious
You look more prettier honey!
It’s been 3 years since I graduated and I can’t find a job with my degree :/

Is pursuing Fashion management in MBA is waste of time?
