@Hawkes Gaming I'm having some troubles, I got a A class capital freighter (since S class was taking forever I decided to settle on A for now). when I try to make a wire from one of my lights powering my wall planter, it says "out of range of base". im also only able to build from the frighter room tab, lights tab, and the tab with refiners and such. no generators, portals, batteries or anything. so im not even able to make the invisible wire item either. any advice on how to fix/overcome this? BTW I do have ALL the blueprints, so me not having a blueprint is not an issue also I love your videos, decided to try NMS due to game pass and have been enjoying it and watching some of your vids to help me along

Crazy how far this game has come. Bought it on release got disappointed by all the stuff that was missing but was promised to be in the game. Completed the game and then sold it for a quarter of what I paid. A year later I sold my ps4 and went to pc and i can't bring my self to pay another £40 for a game I should of got the first time I bought it.
I think it goes on sale once in awhile. I believe it was recently $25 on steam. I wonder if HG will let you switch your account to PC if you submit a support request?
Yo Hawkes just wanted to let you know that after some update they did change the freighters ability to jump to any star system. You do have to upgrade your freighter now with specific warp shielding, like the chromatic warp shielding to jump to green, etc. Kinda lame but after farming up some frigate modules the material requirements arent that bad.
Best way to get freighter from place to place is just use your ship to jump to the system and call your freighter. It can jump from anywhere regardless of distance. I went through a black hole with my ship and called the freighter. Best part, calling it does not use any of its hyperdrive fuel
@@benchi9682 I think you save the game just before doing the jump, then redo it. I guess you can see on the freighter whether its at least a capital type (the ones that have more than... some amount of slots)
I've made 6 command rooms (and have 25 frigates). Mostly a couple sit idle but sometimes they are needed if you sent off all missions and are still playing after a couple new missions become available. There is also an easy way to boost your di-hydrogen (make frigate fuel with di-hydrogen & tritium in refiners). Place about 450 di-hydrogen in a refiner (or a bunch of refiners) and make it into dihydrogen jelly. It takes about 10 minutes so a lot of refiners is best. Then take the resulting dihydrogen jelly and refine it back into basic dihydrogen (this part is quick). It will provide extra each time you do it. If I'm dinking around on my freighter it makes sense to do this to boost the fuel resources. Tritium I don't know of a similar technique. The fastest way though is to go to a high supply space station and buy from NPC ships until you can get a couple large (3k) purchases of Tritium and jelly. I run all frigate missions every day and that in itself has provided many millions of credits and a lot of free ship inventory expansion slots. It also levelled up my frigates to S class pretty quickly so you use less fuel. If you see a pending space battle or pirates (especially if in a new vulnerable ship), call your freighter to your location and a bunch of your frigates will help in the combat. I think you have to call it before the battle starts.
This game blows my mind how much there is to explore and missions to take part in. Fun game and I need to continue to learn about the game and maximize the playing time. Hope You’re having fun too👍
How to Freighter... nice... Love it... Love the colour of your freighter buddy. Great video. Your freighter layout is ace, mine is a flying kitchen geared to make bread and soup on mass... Your looks super cool with all the carbon racks and farming shizzle. I so hope get cross play would love a tour of your freighter... and I can show you mine.
With the early 2020 updates, it is in the game code where the very first capital ship will always be C or B, 100% of the time, it is not possible to get the first capital ship to be A or S unless you find a bug, so always deny the first one. Second battle for capital has 0% chance of S class (unless you find a bug), so deny the second one as well. After that it is wide open. Also the portal on capital ship was patched with the 2.6 Desolation update, so now you can build one, but it is exit only, cannot teleport back up to the capital ship.
True! My first and free freighter was a B Class (28 slots) but then I came across a C Class (30 slots.) So I traded it, lol. I'm a hoarder, the more slots the better. But so far I only build 4 mission rooms. I don't want to spend hours building my base on it just to come across a better one (more slots, lol.) And I'm still in search of a planet to call home with no storms or hazardous weather. Every day I visit like 30 planets. :-S About the teleporter, that's also true. I play on Xbox One and you can build one in your capital ship.
Great info! I have built several freighter bases but I learned some things I never knew that are going to help a lot. Just the tip about getting power from the lights would have saved me a boat load of time jockying hydroponic trays trying to get rid of the red unpowered ones and I don't have to put solar power and batteries on board to power my teleporter any more! Well i have the freighter that looks like yours but is bigger and its not an S class and i cant even upgrade it to A class so its a B class but i love how big it is from outside i think thats the biggest freighter.

i was caught off guard when offered the first freighter..i had never been in combat and suddenly i was fighting 6 small ships. i declined the offer of the freighter thinking the other reward he offered masy be a few million units but the tight s.o.b gave me like 200 chrome metal. but from what you have said in this video it sounds like i was right to decline the very first freighter?
Hi Hawkes, I'm currently trying to find a new freighter (I picked up a B class for my first). Does it have to be a NEW system when you warp or can you go back and forth between two 3-star economy systems to force spawn a freighter battle?
Something very wrong in this video is you cannot warp to any color. You have to upgrade it using freighter modules to get blueprints. But it is still better to use your freighter as maxed out you get a range of 2400 LY/jump, and if youre playing with a friend, that person will warp with you if theyre in the freighter
In the dead-end corridor I put the base teleporter. Next I put a solar panel on each side of the teleporter, and a battery in front of each of those. Then plug it all in to each other and the teleporter. I put the "wire hider" thing on the wall behind the teleporter, but can be put anywhere, such as storage room, etc.

Amazing build But I would love to create the exact base if you could slow down and put some floor plans on the screen that'd be great. You seem to cut out Most things and or speed things up which doesn't allow others to follow step by step
Please! Same for me. I can't tell what you are actually doing. I'm trying to delete and it doesn't let me then the first time it deletes part of the ship it's showing outer space and I was stuck. I had to exit the game and go back in.
Don't give up on finding the S-class. I spent 3 days (3-4hrs) doing the save and reload. Got frustrated and picked up the next best I could find. Then the first space battle after was an S-class.... fml
I play on Xbox, and I'm able to place a terminus portal. They must've updated it since this video. Really appreciate your help videos, they've taught me alot I didn't know.
I had the same problem with the hydroponic trays. Every other not working. I found that I offset the ones that didn't work half the width to where it was pushed against the row beside it it would work. I wish I had known about glitching the light. I like that better than a whole bunch of offset trays. I ended up removing all of my 130 trays and building 76 biodomes at my base that had a silver and oxygen mine. I picked that location because it was the only place I had an S class electromagnetic hotspot.
I am pretty sure its possible on consoles as well now. They have gotten the option to remove base limitations as well, which I am pretty sure is how we are able to do it on PC.

I got my coffee and sat down and played for less than a half hour and 1 jump and landed into a battle. I haven't taken my free one yet as I am always offered a C class so I bought an A class I ran across.
Fun Fact Fighter Frigates will deploy to you and assist you if your fighting pirates near your freighter they dont do a lot of damage but it's cool nonetheless
The first. Freighter I got which was yesterday was an A class and I got it for free for defending it from pirates or smthn and this is 5 hours of playtime on the save btw
(IDEA BTW) when you first get your freighter and you buy combat, support, vessel, and other to go with your freighter you should be able to buy other freighter with a higher price and more ship slots. (Sorry if i miss spelled something or leave something out)
I'm pretty sure your frigates just move with you to the new freighter. If it's not too late in your game, wait until you see a nice A-Class at least for your first. Your first offered freighter is always very small, but if you don't take it you can have your free first freighter be much bigger and more valuable.

You can have the portal in the console version. I've been playing on the PS4, got my first freighter, and very first thing I did was put the portal in. Maybe that got patched in since you made this video.
@@williamhollingsworth84 I noticed that too. I've been using it to hop to my slowly growing farming bases and just summoning my freighter to the planet. Not ideal, but not a big deal either.
Edit: Freighters now come with their own power so the light trick is not needed anymore. everything seems to work with power from freighter. It doesn`t seem the light trick works anymore, or at least i can`t make it work. I tested a normal light on a wall and it is off as it has no electricity. Maybe the light trick has been fixed. can anyone confrim that it still works or not now? thanks
The most important thing about Frigates is fuel. Get the ones that aren't fuel hogs. They'll level up. But if they are costing you 12 fuel a mission that's insane. You want to have the cheapest frigates fuel wise you can. The first you took used 12. That's a big no no. The second was a 10. Better but this too much. Shop around and get ones that don't suck up fuel like a drunk drinks cheap wine. Missions will be cheaper to run. Less fuel to use and make. Mission costing 700 fuel make you have to farm up more stuff to make fuel.
Hehe.. nice vid I got the same capital ship except its the large version. Same color scheme and all. Adding a teleporter edits a file I think so might be game breaking for some or not. I'm keeping my play through clean for now. Maybe I'll add it one day when they actually fix the teleporter. I don't think HG know how to though.. lol
My first freighter bugged out so I tried deleting a few spaces ... everything disappeared. Entire inside of the freight up to the halls near command deck. Almost broke my game because it even saved. Luckily was able to VR teleport my way through invisible walls back to safety to reset the whole thing. I don't mess with my freighter base too much anymore. Maybe for a permadeath run I'll live off it but for main save, no way. All command centers are near the bridge.
Oh, a question for you. When you keep referencing "the end game items", should I start taking farming more seriously? I can only assume I am still pretty early on, but once my base "manager" GEK told me to hire a farmer, I left that side mission and continued on the Artemis story. Just completed mind arc. Hopefully I didn't have any spoilers in here. Tried to be cryptic :)

@@HawkesGaming I've been making clusters of 3 medium and 2 large refiners, which is the amount that can sit together. Move about 40 feet away and create another side room cluster. Its faster than walking between each one.
Do be careful, though. Unless they changed it in the last 6 or so months, the larger refiners have an invisible collision above them that will block you if you have a floor right above the refiner.
I just set up something similar but it doesn't look like we need to power anything via the lights any longer....i have a portal and trays with no power and no need for power it seems...
It takes 3 - 4 more hours of gameplay to be able to trigger the freighter spawn again. After you play for 3 - 4 hours start to warp around. It will trigger the event to happen. When it happens if you don't like the ship skin reload your last save. Warp to a different high wealth economy and check the skin there. Keep doing that until you find the freighter skin you want. At this point complete the fight. If it's not an s class then reload your save. Keep fighting the battle over and over until you get that puppy in an S class in the skin you want. When you know you are close to triggering the freighter battle do an auto save before each warp. Just so your ready to start the process once it triggers.
I bought an A class Dreadnought Freighter after a pirate win. it has 34/9 slots so its maxed out. So should I try to get an S class? Second question does the Freighter level up like the frigates?
I *think* the only difference is the base stats? I have a similar A freighter. I think if you like the looks and it has the slots then there is not a lot of motivation to upgrade that I can see. If I find the perfect S class I'll probably do it anyway, just for the fun of rebuilding the base.
I have 1 freighter but I found another that I actually like a lot. But I have a farm built inside of my first freighter. So if I buy the second freighter would I have to build that farm over again?
I feel that s class freighter grind. Took me almost six hours. also, did they just patch some of the freighter Base building stuff? I don't see the option to build a portal anymore
I lucked out so hard. I got a A class freighter first (I think first attempt was a C which I passed on, next was an A) and then was watching a video saying that S class freighters are more likely to spawn in wealthier systems. So I went to wealthy system and was doing something else and actually ignored the pirate quest. But when I came out of the station the pirates were still attacking so I killed the last one and then noticed that the frigate was an amazing black and red star destroyer type. I was like "Hmmm...let me just check it out and see if it is any good. It probably won't be better than my A class one." Go inside and it was an S class so I bought it. That early playing I didn't realize how rare S class anything was.

You can trade it in while also paying the difference, it’s not a free trade from C class to S class. And you’ll have to wait three hours then jump 5 times to get your next encounter
I just watched you video, awesome! Having problem running power into the red planters. I did the light on my standing planters, and the rest of it doesnt work for me. Is there a diffrent way to run power on my frighter?
Your first freighter will always be free. That is if as soon as you warp into a system and there's a battle going on and you "save" the freighter from the attacking pirates. Then you'll be asked by the captain to board his freighter and talk to him. Once you do that, that freighter will be offered to you for free should you want it.
for some reason i cant use the wire on my freighter nor most of the build items ( some say base is out of range) plus the light trick is not working for me any way you know how to fix the issues am on ps4 btw.
Only the very first freighter you are offered. If you accept it the next one will cost you tons of money. This is why a lot of people will skip the crappy first freighter and get a free capitol freighter instead. That can save you over 250 million if its an S class.

Running frigate missions gives those freighter salvage things to unlock blueprints. Seems more reliable than crashed freighters.

You can get it a lot cheaper than £40 if you don't buy directly on steam. It's £16 on some sites right now

I left my freighter sitting at home and used my fighter and black holes to go 677,000 ly to the center of Euclid.

Please! Same for me. I can't tell what you are actually doing. I'm trying to delete and it doesn't let me then the first time it deletes part of the ship it's showing outer space and I was stuck. I had to exit the game and go back in.

Don't give up on finding the S-class. I spent 3 days (3-4hrs) doing the save and reload. Got frustrated and picked up the next best I could find. Then the first space battle after was an S-class.... fml
I play on Xbox, and I'm able to place a terminus portal. They must've updated it since this video. Really appreciate your help videos, they've taught me alot I didn't know.

I had the same problem with the hydroponic trays. Every other not working. I found that I offset the ones that didn't work half the width to where it was pushed against the row beside it it would work. I wish I had known about glitching the light. I like that better than a whole bunch of offset trays. I ended up removing all of my 130 trays and building 76 biodomes at my base that had a silver and oxygen mine. I picked that location because it was the only place I had an S class electromagnetic hotspot.
I am pretty sure its possible on consoles as well now. They have gotten the option to remove base limitations as well, which I am pretty sure is how we are able to do it on PC.

how can you be running out of room if you didn't even build anything on higher floors? you can build things on multiple decks.
I got my coffee and sat down and played for less than a half hour and 1 jump and landed into a battle. I haven't taken my free one yet as I am always offered a C class so I bought an A class I ran across.
Fun Fact Fighter Frigates will deploy to you and assist you if your fighting pirates near your freighter they dont do a lot of damage but it's cool nonetheless

The first. Freighter I got which was yesterday was an A class and I got it for free for defending it from pirates or smthn and this is 5 hours of playtime on the save btw

(IDEA BTW) when you first get your freighter and you buy combat, support, vessel, and other to go with your freighter you should be able to buy other freighter with a higher price and more ship slots. (Sorry if i miss spelled something or leave something out)
I'm pretty sure your frigates just move with you to the new freighter. If it's not too late in your game, wait until you see a nice A-Class at least for your first. Your first offered freighter is always very small, but if you don't take it you can have your free first freighter be much bigger and more valuable.

You can have the portal in the console version. I've been playing on the PS4, got my first freighter, and very first thing I did was put the portal in. Maybe that got patched in since you made this video.
Same here, but I can't jump back to the portal on the freighter. Don't know if it is possible or just use it as a 1 way portal?
@@williamhollingsworth84 I noticed that too. I've been using it to hop to my slowly growing farming bases and just summoning my freighter to the planet. Not ideal, but not a big deal either.

Edit: Freighters now come with their own power so the light trick is not needed anymore. everything seems to work with power from freighter.
It doesn`t seem the light trick works anymore, or at least i can`t make it work. I tested a normal light on a wall and it is off as it has no electricity. Maybe the light trick has been fixed. can anyone confrim that it still works or not now? thanks

The most important thing about Frigates is fuel. Get the ones that aren't fuel hogs. They'll level up. But if they are costing you 12 fuel a mission that's insane. You want to have the cheapest frigates fuel wise you can. The first you took used 12. That's a big no no. The second was a 10. Better but this too much. Shop around and get ones that don't suck up fuel like a drunk drinks cheap wine. Missions will be cheaper to run. Less fuel to use and make. Mission costing 700 fuel make you have to farm up more stuff to make fuel.

Adding a teleporter edits a file I think so might be game breaking for some or not.

ok so I am close to getting a freighter so I am looking up how to get it right. alot of things to consider.
My first freighter bugged out so I tried deleting a few spaces ... everything disappeared. Entire inside of the freight up to the halls near command deck. Almost broke my game because it even saved. Luckily was able to VR teleport my way through invisible walls back to safety to reset the whole thing.
I don't mess with my freighter base too much anymore. Maybe for a permadeath run I'll live off it but for main save, no way. All command centers are near the bridge.
Oh, a question for you. When you keep referencing "the end game items", should I start taking farming more seriously? I can only assume I am still pretty early on, but once my base "manager" GEK told me to hire a farmer, I left that side mission and continued on the Artemis story. Just completed mind arc. Hopefully I didn't have any spoilers in here. Tried to be cryptic :)

Thank you for this guide! I am so tired of being held down by the man! 😂 question: is there not a limit to large refiners on a Freighter or are you just keeping them far enough apart?
No limit only a distance requirement.
@@HawkesGaming I've been making clusters of 3 medium and 2 large refiners, which is the amount that can sit together. Move about 40 feet away and create another side room cluster. Its faster than walking between each one.
Do be careful, though. Unless they changed it in the last 6 or so months, the larger refiners have an invisible collision above them that will block you if you have a floor right above the refiner.

I just set up something similar but it doesn't look like we need to power anything via the lights any longer....i have a portal and trays with no power and no need for power it seems...

How long did it take after you declined the first freighter before the event happened again?
It takes 3 - 4 more hours of gameplay to be able to trigger the freighter spawn again. After you play for 3 - 4 hours start to warp around. It will trigger the event to happen. When it happens if you don't like the ship skin reload your last save. Warp to a different high wealth economy and check the skin there. Keep doing that until you find the freighter skin you want. At this point complete the fight. If it's not an s class then reload your save. Keep fighting the battle over and over until you get that puppy in an S class in the skin you want. When you know you are close to triggering the freighter battle do an auto save before each warp. Just so your ready to start the process once it triggers.
I bought an A class Dreadnought Freighter after a pirate win. it has 34/9 slots so its maxed out. So should I try to get an S class? Second question does the Freighter level up like the frigates?
I *think* the only difference is the base stats? I have a similar A freighter. I think if you like the looks and it has the slots then there is not a lot of motivation to upgrade that I can see. If I find the perfect S class I'll probably do it anyway, just for the fun of rebuilding the base.

I think it all just magically appears on the new freighter once you buy it.
I see the lights on in your freighter are on all over. In mine they turn off as soon as I move a few feet away. There is no other power needed right?

I lucked out so hard. I got a A class freighter first (I think first attempt was a C which I passed on, next was an A) and then was watching a video saying that S class freighters are more likely to spawn in wealthier systems. So I went to wealthy system and was doing something else and actually ignored the pirate quest. But when I came out of the station the pirates were still attacking so I killed the last one and then noticed that the frigate was an amazing black and red star destroyer type. I was like "Hmmm...let me just check it out and see if it is any good. It probably won't be better than my A class one." Go inside and it was an S class so I bought it. That early playing I didn't realize how rare S class anything was.

You can trade it in while also paying the difference, it’s not a free trade from C class to S class. And you’ll have to wait three hours then jump 5 times to get your next encounter
I only recruit the frigates with Ghost crews. It limits my cost of food and lost of life.
I just watched you video, awesome! Having problem running power into the red planters. I did the light on my standing planters, and the rest of it doesnt work for me. Is there a diffrent way to run power on my frighter?

Your first freighter will always be free. That is if as soon as you warp into a system and there's a battle going on and you "save" the freighter from the attacking pirates. Then you'll be asked by the captain to board his freighter and talk to him. Once you do that, that freighter will be offered to you for free should you want it.

for some reason i cant use the wire on my freighter nor most of the build items ( some say base is out of range) plus the light trick is not working for me any way you know how to fix the issues am on ps4 btw.

Only the very first freighter you are offered. If you accept it the next one will cost you tons of money. This is why a lot of people will skip the crappy first freighter and get a free capitol freighter instead. That can save you over 250 million if its an S class.
So since I didn't know this I got a B freighter so now I've missed my chance I guess
