  • Special Shout Out to Eamon Kerrigan for his awesome footage from the Ineos 159 Challenge!
It finally happened! Eliud Kipchoge finally broke the 2 hour barrier for the marathon. In this historic run, Kipchoge made running under 2 hours look way too easy.
Over the final kilometer, Kipchoge increased the pace and sprinted home to run an astonishing time of 1:59:40, breaking the 2 hour barrier by a full 20 seconds!
In this video, we'll revisit one of the greatest sporting moments ever and see how strong Eliud Kipchoge truly is.

It seems that one of the most overlooked aspect in which kipchoge excels at, is staying injury free. Injuries have delayed, suspended and crippled careers. It seems he is very well surrounded by experts and also very dedicated to all aspects of training, and resting, apparently doing all the right moves. For example, it may seem obvious that he seems to have been able to have gone a liitle faster in this challenge. But why overexert if the purpose was to go 159, very smart all around. Kipchoge has taught the world nothing. He's just shown that discipline and hard work pay if you aim for realistic goals. Which he did as he is the best marathon runner ever.

Every so often our Awesome Creator allows us to glimpse a minute part of His Awesome Power. Yesterday 11/5/19, I watched this Historical race
in its entirety, and tried to see it through God's lenses. I'm not racist, and can never ever become one; but what I witnessed during this race, was that all of God Creation, present at that event, and even by television,
operated as one, as we witnessed History being made. Eliud was the one whom God chose to show our oneness, and where our strength comes from. I was mesmerized by the team work, and all of the participants, with all of their ingenuity, bring this world class History making event to fruition.

Under 2 hours is unfathomable to me! I ran a marathon two weeks ago in 5 hours and 33 minutes, and I still feel like I'm recovering. He looks fresh and ready to run again after breaking 2 hours... that was just a warm up for him!

If it takes you 5h33 to run a marathon, you should probably not run one. And it takes way more than two weeks to recover, hence why elite runners don't schedule more than a couple marathons per year.

Great video but just a couple of minor counter-points. As incredible as this feat was, it cannot be used to contrast Kipchoge as being night and day ahead of Bekele because it really was a different event when compared to a standard marathon. This event, and the exact way it was run has never really been done before, not even Monza was exactly the same, so we really don't have anything to properly compare it with. The reality is that at this point in time there is still only 2 seconds that separate these two incredible runners when comparing apples to apples. Personally, I think the greatest marathon event we could see right now would be say, Berlin in 2020 with Eliud and Kenenisa lining up together, both in top form, and willing to help pace each other once the initial pacemakers fall away -Then if they are still together at about 5K to go, the gloves can come off and may the best man win!!!

He is not saying Kipchoge isn't the GOAT; its just that as long as their is an existing runner who came to within 2s of his record, their is always that lingering need for a showdown to set records straight. Am a kenyan, and I also long for bekele-kipchoge showdown especially in Berlin because i believe we will witness greater history when those two team up.

I simply could not sustain such a pace but it was a memorable experience and so cool to keep pace with them for the first mile as I weighed about 165 lbs at 6ft 1 inch tall.
