- Special Shout Out to Eamon Kerrigan for his awesome footage from the Ineos 159 Challenge!
It finally happened! Eliud Kipchoge finally broke the 2 hour barrier for the marathon. In this historic run, Kipchoge made running under 2 hours look way too easy.
Over the final kilometer, Kipchoge increased the pace and sprinted home to run an astonishing time of 1:59:40, breaking the 2 hour barrier by a full 20 seconds!
In this video, we'll revisit one of the greatest sporting moments ever and see how strong Eliud Kipchoge truly is. - Sport

You prolly dont care but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my gf for the last couple of months =)
@Kenzo Lionel Definitely, I've been watching on Instaflixxer for since november myself :)
Eliud Kipchoge may have run a marathon in under two hours, but only Chuck Norris can run two marathons in under an hour.
@@brennanherring9059 yo I didn't know Chuck Norris joke is still relevant today
Can't imagine running a mile in 4 min 33 sec, let alone doing it 26 times. What a remarkable feat!
dont forget the other .2 miles. in total it's 26.2 miles
Larry Li the final .2 was just a 13 mph celebration 🤣👍
lol I got 2 friend and they do track run faster then that I do track too also is okay 800 meter speed but not super fast anyway yeah who give a shit if you can sprint faster then 13 mph average not fat person who don't run can run that speed
i know it has nothing to do with this but i ran 2 miles in 13 minutes

He still continues to run after the finish line lol

Dude, wtf!! The man didn’t even look like he’d just run for two hours straight.
Its crazy how he runs 100 miles a week. I probably drive less than that in a week.
lol
AustinMcConnell he was running 140 per week preparing for this
Thats running 5 marathons back to back in a week. My knee would vanish in thin air if I even think about it
i was in tears when he was reaching towards the finish line.. it was beautiful
Same here
hahah dont worry thats how we do it here in kenya
Me too
Me too.
So I ran marathon last weekend and it took me nearly 6 hrs. I just can't imagine how anyone would run under two hours. I guess only Elid Kipchoge can do that! 🙌
Running a marathon in general is a great feat. Congrats!
Congrats.
Ran one in 2015,
4:28 h, the pain was unbelievable from km 35 on... 😖😂
Haven't bothered since.
@@Felipe1977 I guess we're part of the 0.5 percent population who completed a marathon! That's all that mattered to me!!
Anyone with a bit of structured training and average health should be able to run a marathon in under 4 hours. Under 3 hours is an entirely different story.
Kenyans can do that
Kenya now holds both women and men marathon world records...We are blessed as a country. Both athletes from Eldoret Kenya.
What a great weekend for Kenyan runners! Most weeks are very good, but this one was extra special.
i have no idea how you folks do it. it is beyond impressive.

I was there, live in Vienna to watch Eliud break the 2-hour-barrier, and it was truly amazing to watch.
Especially since he broke the barrier on a route, where I usually run, this will forever be a special moment to me.
That's so cool. I remember seeing the announcement that it would be in Vienna and thinking how cool it would be to live there and then see Kipchoge come to break the record.
salute to the pacers too!
One of the greatest human ever lived! Purpose, discipline, love. Bless him!
I watched from Australia and was nervous for 2 whole hours. Messaging my running parter from school days the whole time. I admit I teared up seeing his smile at the end. He looked like he could nhave gone faster but was somewhat restricted by the way it was set up. Well done Eliud you are a star!
There was someone who broke a certain record once and when asked how he did it given how "difficult" it was and how so many people had tried and failed, he simply said: "I didn't know it couldnt be done."
That just shows how most of the barriers we all face are more psychological than physical.
It's Paul Tergat 😀

El Gato rubbish. It was not a real marathon.
@@pomegranatepip2482 I'd like to see you run a mile even close to sub 5 LOL
Fantastic breakdown. Thank you. I've waited my whole life to see this. Kipchoge is an inspirational man through his words and actions. I still can't believe I got to witness this historic moment. I predict someone (maybe Kipchoge or Bekele) will break two hours in a race in the next 5 years. Most likely at Berlin (not Tokyo Olympics because it will be too hot).
Such a beautiful thing to witness when there is so much sadness and anger in the world.
Keep making your awesome videos my friend!
Very nice thing to point out. Thankyou
If one of them breaks two hours at an oficial race I will loose my marbles.
A lot of math and science went into this mark, so at a regular race? With no pacers, regular hydration stops and everything the same?
DEAD.
It seems that one of the most overlooked aspect in which kipchoge excels at, is staying injury free. Injuries have delayed, suspended and crippled careers. It seems he is very well surrounded by experts and also very dedicated to all aspects of training, and resting, apparently doing all the right moves. For example, it may seem obvious that he seems to have been able to have gone a liitle faster in this challenge. But why overexert if the purpose was to go 159, very smart all around. By the way, great video, I like all your videos.
Well said.
I concur... 100‰
In Kenya if you get injured, you will stay at home nursing your injury. Nobody cares about you
He's a meticulous planner. And you are are right about how he never over exerts himself. He also trains at 90%, never going over board in training. He has an amazing phsyiotherapist who helps him look after his body. Really he's just super smart and intuitive with his mind and body. I can't think of any other athlete that has this level of control and understanding.
@@ericmochiemo1592 Wtf are you talking about? We're talking about a world class athlete here who has the resources and support. Your comment is so bure
Before the race, I heard people around him say they were virtually certain he would get 1:59, and possibly 1:58 at a push. Given how fresh he looked at the end, I really do believe he can achieve a time close to or just under 1:59:00
Wow what a powerful documentary ...I feel proud being Kenyan
The "No human is limited" is really: "No human is limited in his consciousness" - Reality is limited (everything that exists), but consciousness is not reality, and therefore humans should not put a limit on themselves but should always push to get better. That is really the big thing Kipchoge has taught the world.
Your break down of that phrase is pure wisdom.👌🏿👌🏿
@@big.r5550 Thank you
Wrong!!! Big lie!!! There is always a limit... It can come the time when this athlete would not be able to crawl.. Plus, death appears to anybody, at any moment..!!! That's a limit and reallity. Also, the rules have changed in running; in the past, it was illegal to pace sombody in road racing...
@@JesusRodriguez-sx9vr I don't think you understand what I am saying - no offense
The "No human is limited" is really marketing crap. Humans are very much limited in all different sorts of ways. All of them. Even Kipchoge. He could train 50 more years with the best science to back him up and he could still not run the marathon in 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Kipchoge has taught the world nothing. He's just shown that discipline and hard work pay if you aim for realistic goals. Which he did as he is the best marathon runner ever.
I’m not crying, you’re crying!!!
Beautiful video. Beautiful moment. So glad I got to watch this whole race happen
Great achievement for humanity. Pushing boundaries all the time. Congrats Eluid.
Would it have been a great achievement for humanity had he run 2:00:01? Or 1:59:59? Oh my, the number of idiots commenting is definitely not a great achievement for humanity.
Thanks my hero,my neighbour. After the previous marathon which you completed in 2hours+ you told me "Your attitude towards failure determines your altitude after failure" and that "the only disability in life is a bad attitude" I never really did understand what those words meant but it seems so clear to me now. After the 2019 marathon Now I know what those statements meant,I hold them dear to my heart❤❤
Kongoi Kipchoge (thanks Kipchoge)
Yes, this is the post-race video I needed
He looks better than he has in any of the other marathons. He's in excellent shape and looks relaxed. It doesn't look like he's running that fast.

Awesome! I'm so happy for him, this is so positively inspirational, I feel privileged to watch this great footage that you all have documented of the process. Great job.
Boohoo to anyone trying to point out anything negative or downgrade his accomplishment in any way.
This is your best video ever and I love your commentary. Your smooth delivery and voice so fits this amazing video. Great Job. Oh, I can't wait to see Eluid and Kenenisa Bekele run in the Olympics and I hope they both do and they are both injury-free and at their best on that day. I truly believe what Kenenisa did at Berlin gave Eluid extra motivation. :)
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
Good job covering this challenge, he is still in my head daily, I’m in awe.
Kindly do a video on the newly broken women's marathon record. I understand it stood for 17 years! Remarkable...

The pacers celebrating in the background during the last meters is so beautiful 😃😃😃😃
Sincerely appreciate your effort here. You had this race covered from the day this challenge was publicly announced. I had been following all your pre-race videos. Kudos & accolades to you as well 👍

That is a lot of pressure on this man, he did amazing and really put in the work. Great job race organizers/pacers/ and this man for making some positive in this world.
He should break 2 at Berlin next year and then do an ineos 1:57 challenge in 2021 to try to break the 1:57:58 human limit
Never going to happen.

Congrats on this series! All the videos before the race made waking up at 4am much easier
This was such an incredible series to watch! We couldn’t have asked for anything better, thanks TRP!
We can always re-define our limit like Eliud Kipchoge just did but as human beings we are still limited to do so much in this world we live in!
I guess everybody's throwing predictions out; I guess mine is that one of these two will do a 2:00:57 in a sanctioned event in the first half of next year...
More likely on the Berlin course. But BEKELE AND Kipchoge May target the Olympic marathon instead

An absolutely wonderful video. Thanks for the upload. 😊 ❤️
So well structured and presented video, same as Eliud's perfomance itself. Thank you!
Right, making a video on youtube can definitely be compared to running the marathon in under 2 hours. Well done.
This man pushed the limits of what we think the human and spirit can accomplish. The fact that he looked exactly the same at the start and at the finishing line speaks for itself
Finally been waiting for this video from your channel.
You have broken it down so well. Thank you!
Pretty amazing when the top runners in the world carry you on their shoulders for doing something they can't imagine accomplishing. Uncommon amongst uncommon runners for sure..

Every so often our Awesome Creator allows us to glimpse a minute part of His Awesome Power. Yesterday 11/5/19, I watched this Historical race
in its entirety, and tried to see it through God's lenses. I'm not racist, and can never ever become one; but what I witnessed during this race, was that all of God Creation, present at that event, and even by television,
operated as one, as we witnessed History being made. Eliud was the one whom God chose to show our oneness, and where our strength comes from. I was mesmerized by the team work, and all of the participants, with all of their ingenuity, bring this world class History making event to fruition.
For a moment, I thought of the world, and prayed for Peace. Eliud, Son of the most High God, you are truly one of God's Amazing Ambassadors. Blessings.
Kipchoge is to running what Bruce Lee was to martial arts , these guys are special and very rare! It's gona be a very very longtime before anyone breaks kipchoge sub 2hour time, the only person who may do that is kipchoge himself.I see him even getting better after this! Love to all Kenyans:-)

Asante sana. Love back to you!
Will we look back at Kipchoge's historical sub 2 hour time, like we look back at Bannister breaking the 4min mile? With hundreds of marathon runners having broken the 2hour marathon in the not too distant future? (btw: Thank you for a great video, fascinating analyses/comments)
Amazing video. Congratulations from 🇧🇷

I really think is going to be on the Olympic games! that will be his next! for sure he is going to be at least 2 h few seconds.
Thanks! And I feel like he'll probably shoot for the 2020 Olympics as well. That would be a great accomplishment to successfully defend his marathon title.
This video is an example for me that even if you create something undeniably positive and meritoricly correct some people will just hate it because they just want to dislike it. Like... What flaw can you find in this video? Author is not even asking for likes or subs. There is nothing you can say negative about this video. You would have to just hate being positive to dislike this video...
For one thing, Vienna's altitude is 169m, not 540. But there's much more that can be criticized about this video.
Eliud the machine 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😎
He said he thought he had a 90% chance of doing it and I agree.
I like that they were conservative, but if they had risked pacing it faster I feel like he had a 50-50 shot to go like 1:59.10
Now I guess he can try to do 1:59.59 at Berlin in 2 years
Also the question must be asked of what would happen if this was done at 400-500m lower in elevation
I don’t think It would have made a giant difference. It was more about race day conditions, the smooth course, and the excited crowd.
That part of Vienna where Eliud run is only 160m above sea level, there is a mistake in the video.
Under 2 hours is unfathomable to me! I ran a marathon two weeks ago in 5 hours and 33 minutes, and I still feel like I'm recovering. He looks fresh and ready to run again after breaking 2 hours... that was just a warm up for him!
If it takes you 5h33 to run a marathon, you should probably not run one. And it takes way more than two weeks to recover, hence why elite runners don't schedule more than a couple marathons per year.
Great video but just a couple of minor counter-points. As incredible as this feat was, it cannot be used to contrast Kipchoge as being night and day ahead of Bekele because it really was a different event when compared to a standard marathon. This event, and the exact way it was run has never really been done before, not even Monza was exactly the same, so we really don't have anything to properly compare it with. The reality is that at this point in time there is still only 2 seconds that separate these two incredible runners when comparing apples to apples. Personally, I think the greatest marathon event we could see right now would be say, Berlin in 2020 with Eliud and Kenenisa lining up together, both in top form, and willing to help pace each other once the initial pacemakers fall away -Then if they are still together at about 5K to go, the gloves can come off and may the best man win!!!
lol see that little button on the left of your keyboard?!? It's called the cApSLoCk -try using it sometime.
@WARRIOR FIGHTER PAHLAWAN geeez...no need for caps...besides re-read Bendy's comment. He is not saying Kipchoge isn't the GOAT; its just that as long as their is an existing runner who came to within 2s of his record, their is always that lingering need for a showdown to set records straight. Am a kenyan, and I also long for bekele-kipchoge showdown especially in Berlin because i believe we will witness greater history when those two team up.
@@gregkenney6109 true that... It will be a case of unknown runners winning the marathons while the GOATs chase the olympics
@@gregkenney6109 Yeah, that's an issue for sure. Honestly, Bekele is not a young man anymore, ideally it would be 2020 in Berlin, but that seems an unlikely scenario :(
@@bigsmok84 Thank god someone gets it. Kipchoge is the greatest marathon runner ever, his consistency speaks for itself, but Bekele's record as a middle distant runner is second to none, and with his Berlin time of 2:01:41 I think it would be crazy for any true fan of running not to want to see a showdown with these two titans of the sport.
What a wonderful video!
Just like Nike played a huge part in developing a distance running shoe to help rewrite history, same thing will be done in the 100m dash and so on. We’ll see a sub 9.50 in the near future due to better trained athletes & especially better tech!
There isn't much optimization to be done in the 100m sprint as of now.
No, it will take another runner with the height, physiology and leg speed that Usain Bolt possessed.
The average sized sprinter probably can't move their shorter legs any faster. (**See Tyson Gay)
Bolt in the KING in the 100/200m distances.
Amazing. His worst result in a marathon is 2nd, and only once kind of five years ago. Now this flaberghasting sub-2 hrs for the distance.
The question is: What's next for him? What will the next challenge be?
That's the question! I can't even imagine where's he'll be aiming next. Perhaps the next goal is a sub 2 hour marathon in one of the marathon majors. That would be amazing.
1:58:59 sounds good
Nothing is impossible. Believe in your self. Eliud kipchoge. No human is limited
nitish singh not really true. It will never be run in 5 minutes
It's not a cheap anime, dude. It's a very taxing discipline, and where some people may smile others would die.
I have a strong belief that even Bekele can do sub 2 in this specially set up event/condition.
yes he can do it...
I don't think so look at his finish he look like he was really struggling to finish and he had a target to overcome while kipchoge looks relaxed and smilling even at the last meter and he had no target the marathon he broke he was just running at his will...also kipchoge is 34 while bekele is 38 so fewer marathon years
Kipchoges economy is just mind boggling he doesn't look like he is really running fast while Bekele hands are all over the place😆😆
He can't... His prime is done
Kipchoge looks like hes running effortlessly while Bekele looks like a drowning toddler throwing his arms around in the water and gasping for air
@@robertmassive5335 he was 2 seconds outside the WR, and you say his prime is done? 😂
So that means he would have smashed it in his prime? Or are you saying that even in his prime he couldn't go 3 seconds faster?

You should do a video comparing Vienna to Monza.
I could run 1 mile at the pace in my prime. Astonished myself by running 🏃 a 4:23 in the first mile of a five mile race.
Went out with about a dozen Kenyans who came to the USA to run the money circuit 💰 races. I simply could not sustain such a pace but it was a memorable experience and so cool to keep pace with them for the first mile as I weighed about 165 lbs at 6ft 1 inch tall. These guys were all under 5 ft 9 inch weighing no more than about 130 lbs. Winner finished in about 23:30 and I finished in 27:06 (which is still my PB to this day)
Let's not take 'anything' away from "the man"... So far he's proved to being the best marathon runner of all time. Hats off to you Eliud Kipchoge; but of course, this record set in 'ideal' conditions needs to be ratified in 'real' conditions, which we all know, can be quite 'different' from ideal ones... the challenge is on: let's get real boys..!!
What a great man Kipchoge is. He managed to run 26.2 miles under 2 hours, however that's not a real marathon. From my point of view he and Bekele are just two seconds apart though Kipchoge is obviously the GOAT in that distante. What role played shoes in that performance? I'm impressed that in very sort time several athletes are running in amazing times like yesterday Brigid Kosgei in 2:14:04.
