    Please enjoy this PreSonus StudioLive digital mixer unboxing. If you’re curious about this studio mixer DAW digital audio workstation, this video is for you. This is a studio mixer that acts as a DAW (digital audio workstation) controller, and the official product name is PreSonus StudioLive SX32 Mixer.
    The StudioLive 32SX is the ideal little 32-channel digital mixing solution because it has all of the processing power, studio-grade audio quality, and customizable routing choices that made StudioLive mixers renowned. The StudioLive 32SX digital mixer, which is powered by the dual-core PreSonus FLEX DSP Engine, has 40 mixing channels, 26 mix buses, and 286 simultaneous processors, as well as 4 stereo reverberation systems and Fat Channel plug-in models on every input and mix.
    The StudioLive 32SX is the perfect choice for any mixing setting where desk space is at a premium due to its low profile. The split-fader approach gives you access to your mix outputs on eight additional faders while allowing you to control 32 input channels in two fader layers. The StudioLive 32SX maximizes use of available space by combining connectivity and power with 32 XMAX mic preamps and 16 balanced mix outputs.
    You may build a system that is genuinely tailored to your requirements using the StudioLive 32SX digital mixer and the entire PreSonus StudioLive Series III ecosystem of AVB networking solutions. Give your musicians their own customizable 16-channel monitor mixes by adding EarMix 16M personal monitor mixers. Use a StudioLive 32R connected as a monitor mixer or remote stage box. The versatility of Digital Patching on your StudioLive 32SX digital mixer and in the UC Surface remote mixer software enables you to network multiple StudioLive Series III digital mixers, allowing you to route audio to and from any device on the audio network.
    The Studio One console's full StudioLive mix scene, including fader levels, Fat Channel settings, mutes, solos, and more, is recreated when Capture sessions open natively in Studio One. No other multitrack recording program is as quick, easy, or hassle-free, allowing you to concentrate on the show's mixing.
    By introducing drag-and-drop simplicity to typical mixing and production tasks, Studio One changed music recording. Preamp level control and other features can be managed directly from the Studio One software console thanks to tight integration with StudioLive 32SX digital mixers. Your Studio One controls on your digital mixer are immediately accessible when you press the DAW button on your StudioLive 32SX. You can easily switch between your live mix and your production mix with the push of a button by turning on and off Studio One control. The StudioLive 32SX comes with Studio One Artist, allowing you to start recording right away.
    If you enjoyed this video featuring the PreSonus StudioLive digital mixer unboxing, or want more info about this studio mixer DAW digital audio workstation, please remember to like, share, subscribe and leave a comment if you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback. Dave, first off thank you so much for taking on the task of trying to explain this very complex set of mixer/recorders. I purchased the StudioLive 64s and have been working with it for only a couple days. Both of your previous videos are a great introduction to the mixers and how to get up and running as a DAW controller. I wanted to share some things I have learned about the extra "Scribble Strip" that is above the knobs in the Fat channel control section:
    When you are accessing a plugin / effect that is loaded into the mixer, e.g. Presonus plugins, the strips automatically show what parameters the buttons are affecting. You can use the "Page Left/Right" buttons to access the additional parameters (the names of each parameter is shown in the scribble strip above the knob).
    Third-Party Plugins - the parameters for these do not "automatically" show up in the scribble strip. However, in Studio One, when you access the plugin you can change the "controller" (top right in yellow) to be the "UCNET Remote". Then you can map the various parameters of the plugin to each of the 8 knobs and the name of the plugin parameter that you mapped is displayed in the scribble strip.
    Now I know that it's extra work to map the parameters of the 3rd Party plugins manually to the knobs, but it's a nice "compromise" for those plugins that you use the most. It's not "ideal", but it's a pretty cool feature that I haven't seen documented anywhere (or maybe I just haven't found it in the documentation yet). I'm still learning this console and Studio One (Previous Pro Tools user with Apollo Interfaces and the SSL UF8), but I am impressed with what I have seen thus far.
    I look forward to the additional content that you are going to do in regards to this line of mixers. I really enjoy your channel, thank you for all that you do. #SubscriberForLife

    I like your presonus daw controller series. You have clarity and good flow in your videos. I will be unboxing my 32sc any day now. When I bought the 32sc I assumed the daw control might only be somewhat useful if I use my studio one daw so your series confirmed this. But I bought the 32R for stage monitoring with avb link up to use 32SC as FOH if needed and double as a studio recording mixer so I think they will work well for my needs. I haven't seen a daw controller with versatile plugin control at these price points. I agree with using a touchscreen implementation as you suggest. Then it falls on the plugin developers to put more effort on that side of things with mappings for knobs and buttons. I think Neve Genysys black mixers may have that solution, but they start at 50K.

    Completely agreed with your comment on jumping to the track you select on the hardware. It’s very important. Most mixing interfaces even control surfaces are very behind in functionality where you only get piecemeal benefits from hardware control. Granted, with all the plugins it’s not easy to insta-map everything to hardware. But for base daws, it shouldn’t be that hard.

  • @EdgetoneStudios
    @EdgetoneStudios Před rokem +1

    Much agree. I have the 32s with the LCD screens. I don't find they help that much for plugin control, and I wouldn't use it for that purpose or recommend the mixer as a DAW controller.
    However there are two ways it works great when using it as a DAW controller. One is to write fader automation to multiple tracks at time while mixing. In the old days, all movements during mixing were done in real time. So if you like real time fader adjustments across and entire mix, you can set multiple tracks or busses to write automation and do a pass through your entire mix and capture your movements.
    The other one that you already mentioned is Interface mode, which turns the Mix sends into direct outs from the DAW. So when mixing I use Interface mode, and when tracking I use regular aux bus mode.
    Now my thought is that since their firmware can do either direct out of the Mix busses from the DAW, or use the Mix busses as auxilliary outputs, they should combine the two and give the option on each Mix to choose whether that mix is acting as an AUX, say for headphones, or an interface, for external processing of DAW tracks. That would be a fantastic improvement.

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  Před rokem

      Yep. For automation, you are correct. however, I would spend a LOT less money and just get a faderport for that. not spend $4,000 on the SL.
      As for interface mode.....I tired for 6 hours to get it to work correctly and could not manage to get it to work, that's why there is no video for that feature yet. I need to contact Presonus to get help with that, so they dropped the ball on that one....LOL

    • @EdgetoneStudios
      @EdgetoneStudios Před rokem

      @@HomeRecordingMadeEasy That's frustrating. Interface mode worked for me since day one. Inititally I was on a Mac Mini M1 but in August 2022 I switched to a custom Windows PC. It worked with both systems.
      Out of interest, what doesn't work? Do you get the warning that you're turning it on when selected?
      I made a document listing which USB Sends and Returns map to which part of the mixer: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vSrpbnbgu3c8KaFGdnFVHkks6BuvgSNls41c1g5_WCE2GrF7TpCeTg5G72gMAgly6-YaJ6E3ubNNnLw/pubhtml
      Sure that information is on Presonus' website, but it's poorly laid out.

    I have the 32SX. I’m a drummer and it’s great for tracking. And I enjoy having a ton of inputs. But you’re spot on with DAW mode. I just use the mouse for that. Otherwise, it’s a nice compact means to record drums, e-drums, and keys. The other benefit of this mixer for me being solo is, I can fully control the mixer from an iPad at my kit using UC Surface. This is a huge benefit tracking drums, working alone.

      I enjoy your videos. I do have a question. I bought the SL32sc and I love the mixer but it seems that the only way to get sound to come out through the mixer in DAW mode is using channels 37/38 Tape In. My previous mixer which was a Tascam Model 24 MTR all audio would be controlled using the master fader. That is not the case with SL32sc. Can you tell me if there are other alternatives because I have 2 speakers connected from the Main L/R Outs and another 2 speakers connected from the Monitors L/R and the volume is controlled by the Monitor knobs which I would like to be able to control them separately

    The best plug-in control would probably be a touch screen tablet style interface with knobs on the bottom with smaller screens above them for display. Since there are so many different kinds of plug-ins with vastly different layouts, an somewhat universal controller would be difficult to say the least to implement.

    @toaldideutsch2158 Před rokem

    I have a StudioLive 32SC because I bought it to replace my DAW controllers, Yamaha mixer and ZOOM Livetrack Recorder with a single machine.
    I don't have much space in my studio, so I thought it was a good idea, but I was wrong, the mixer still does something to be able to call up sound settings again and again.
    I've created presets for various instruments, so I'm ready to record more quickly, but the mixer doesn't do much better.
    Since I mainly work in Cubase, the DAW mode is just less usable, only the fades work and the tracks are even badly labeled.
    As for the recorder, I thought that this one could record individual tracks and this one could also overdub, but that's not the case. The recorder is only used to make live recordings and overdub is not possible.
    So I still use my IQon QCon Pro and the extension, for recording I use the ZOOM Livetrack 12, the StudioLive only serves as an interface.
    Unfortunately, it is with me so that the StudioLive is not properly recognized by my computer. Whenever I turn on the mixer, I have to pull out and reinsert the USB cable at least once for the mixer to be recognized by the PC.
    A Presonus NSB 16.8 is also connected to the mixer, so I misunderstood something and thought I could expand the mixer with additional channels. This is not the case either, with the 32 channels you can only decide which inputs or outputs are used, the NSB is not an extension.
    Above all, you have to see how to get the NSB to run on the mixer, if necessary, you have to import the firmware update into all devices first. It can only be used if the LED on the NSB lights up blue. it was green initially and that helps me for work readiness, that's not the case.
    All in all, Presonus could do a lot better because Studio One can't keep up with Cubase by far.
