    The night vision goggles we had in the corp were amazing! I remember one time laying down on the ground looking to the stars on a moonless night. I probably seen millions of stars! back then they cost $10,000. The battery was small, I think it was lithium ion. But it lasted for over 40 hours.

      In 1998, while stationed in Hawaii (25th LID) I knew a poor bastard that lost his NVGs during night maneuver training after a mudslide caused him to take a huge tumble. Not only was his leg so seriously injured that he got a medical retirement, He almost lost his M4/203 under the mud and got himself buried. We found him waist deep, luckily and the barrel of his weapon was sticking out about a half inch from the mud. The Army was going to make him pay them 1/2 of the $10k the NVGs were worth, but luckily right after it was determined that the accident wasn’t his fault, a couple combat engineers went out with metal detectors and a mine locator and were able to retrieve his NVGs and they still worked. The whole thing was just chalked up as a learning lesson for everyone about the potential dangers of Mud slides during Night maneuvers.

If you spend a lot of time in the dark, you will probably have abetter set, but these would be good to/ begin with and keep as backup. • @martinj9647
      @martinj9647 Před 5 lety +4

      @Blue Dragon Exactly. I've been vaping since 2008, no exploded batteries. Basically every 18650 I've heard of failing catastrophically has been 100% due to user error(or poor design/cheaping out, like in "hover boards"), either in the moment, or previously and to the point the cell was basically hanging on by a thread and eventually went into thermal runaway. As someone who has had to turn more people away than I can count, I can say the average lack of knowledge in end users is kind of sad. So many people have no clue that the 3A ICR18650 they pulled out of their old laptop battery is absolute shit for the 25A application they're using it in and get offended if you try and tell them different, so I frequently have to tell those people to kick rocks. It definitely doesn't help that these people are usually the ones asking for 18v 600w PWM lipo boxes but have no idea what ohms law is or that series batteries need to be balanced -_-
      in reality though a properly used device running 18650s is no more dangerous to be near your face than your cellphone. If anything cellphones may statistically be more dangerous.

Ya you do need a charger for them but that's not a big deal. You can get a good charger for less then 15 bucks. But ya good batteries can be pricey especially the high discharge variety, but they will last you up to two years are more depending on use, so well worth the extra cost.

    Another good option is the Stealth Cam Night Vision Monocular Scope sold at Walmart for about $100...buy it, try it, if you don't like it return it within the 13-15 days allowed for refund. Like other gadgets...it has its limitations but for ranges upto 75-100 yards it works great. 4 AA batteries, zoom, night/day mode, light levels, focus. I have tested it on my Vepr 12 shotgun which is one of my go to home defense guns and can confidently say it will serve me well in the middle of the nyte when clearing my home if something should go bump in the nyte. I was able to get at least 1 occassionally 2 shots of #7.5 shot off while testing before it would shut off i would say due to concussion blast but that is enough assurance for me to take a shot should i ever need knowing that it was an intruder on the other end of the scope and not a loved one, friend or neighbor. It has worked just perfectly while camping, working in dark places, searching for game...would come in handy during a disaster.
