Fawlty Towers: The Play has been launched in the West End. But is it any good? Is it a cheap knock-off of the TV series, or a clever reinvention?
John Cleese and Caroline Jay Ranger are behind the new stage show, and Fawlty Towers: The Play stars Adam Jackson-Smith, Anna-Jane Casey, Victoria Fox and Hemi Yeroham.
The original Fawlty Towers ran on BBC for two series in 1975 and 1979, and starred John Cleese, Connie Booth, Prunella Scales and Andrew Sachs.
Fawlty Towers: The Play can be watched until September 2024 at London's Apollo Theatre.

I'm a big fan of the original and must have watched every episode a dozen times at least. I've booked tickets to see the stage play at the Apollo later in August but have mixed feelings. Part of me thinks it can never be anywhere near as good as the original, but I'll give it a chance and go with an open mind.

I must admit, if it toured I might see it in a theatre nearer to me, but though it might be good, I don't particularly want to see something of which I already know every line. People are bound to compare the new actors to the originals. I think I will enjoy my box set again soon.
