Khalanga War Memorial is a heritage monument in Dehradun, India, dedicated to the memory of Gorkha soldiers who fought the British in 1814 in the Battle of Nalapani, the first battle of the Anglo-Nepalese War. It has been described as the only monument in the history of warfare to have been erected by a victorious army for its adversaries, as the British were reportedly impressed with the valour of the Gorkhas.[1] The structure falls under the aegis of the Archaeological Survey of India.[2] Every year, a fair is held at the site to commemorate the soldiers and to celebrate Gorkha culture and history

The Battle of Nalapani was the first battle of the Anglo-Nepalese War of 1814-1816, fought between the forces of the British East India Company and Nepal, then ruled by the House of Gorkha. The battle took place around the Nalapani fort, near Dehradun, which was placed under siege by the British between 31 October and 30 November 1814. The fort's garrison was commanded by Captain Balbhadra Kunwar, while Major-General Robert Rollo Gillespie, who had previously fought in the Battle of Java, was in charge of the attacking British troops.

Gurkha fought this for nepal but this place is in india now but legally it belongs to Nepal .
Actually brother it was Garhwal from before then Gurkha ruler attacked and captured for 12 years then happened Anglo-Napalese War Fought in many frontiers Gurkha had to retreat ...Yet India and Nepal share many bonds there is no enemity between brothers right 👍
They didn’t surrender coz of fear, they surrendered as east india company cut of the water supply to the fort.
Even though the British won the battle, they recognized the valour of the Gorkhas by erecting a Memorial for Them -the only instance where a victor had thus honoured the vanquished
