Pakistan 🇵🇰 lost for the same reason that Syria, Egypt, and Jordan lost to Israel in every war. Their officers were playboys from connected families, got their ranks through nepotism, and were treated like princes, while the soldiers were poor peasant boys and were treated like slaves. In all third-world armies, you have unmotivated troops and incompetent officers. India was different, For the Sikhs and Gurkhas, war was a tradition.

India was very lucky in its leaders who were prepared with a vision of what India was to be. The Constitution came out in 1951 and the structure of the governance, the separation of powers and the subordination of the armed forces to the elected representatives came into play. For Pakistan the problem in all walks of life I think started from elite capture. The North Indian elite Muslim families that went to Pakistan brought with them their extra privileged, exploitative by birth thought process. If you watch Satyajit Ray's Shatranj ke Khiladi, you will understand the indolent and indulgent spoilt as a two year old culture that landed gentry of Awadh had. They carried the germ of elite capture into their new country. For India, it was good riddance; we managed to get the land reforms going and abolished all princely privileges. The Pakistani people unfortunately imported some of the worst people living in the subcontinent and paid the price.

Obsession & Assertion of Urdu over Bengali lead to that great seperation.

    Dear Muzammil,
That was a wonderful brief on the reasons for the creation of Bangladesh. I am a student of history, and in fact, I have written a novel based on the Indo-Pak war history. While doing my research on the subject, I came across some other vital aspects that must be mentioned.
    1. Among the most compelling reasons why the East Pakistanis voted for Sheikh Muj was a cyclone - Cyclone Bhola! It struck East Pakistan and east coast of India on November 7-8, 1970. This was the greatest natural disaster of the 20th century, killing up to 500,000 people, ... apart from the devastation is caused to the economy and livelihood of the Bengalis. The cyclone lasted for 6 days but the best effort by Yahya Khan was an air tour of the skies days after the cyclone had receded. Until then there had not been a single effort to help the affected, while the world was sending all the help it could (India had alerted the East Pakistan stations about the impending disaster heading its way. That's the reason India suffered a lot less in comparison.
    2. The massacre under Operation Searchlight. Here, as you mentioned a lot of atrocities were committed by the army ... but there was another evil that was predominantly responsible for this - the Jamat e-Islami which created many proxy forces which carried out the dirty work of the Pak army. Mainly among them were the militias - Al Badr and Al Shams, and numerous others. They killed the intellectuals of East Pakistan and dumped their bodies in the canals and rivers.
One must read a book by Taslima Nasreen - 'Lajja (meaning SHAME in Bengali). The narration is heart wrenching and depressing if you are one of those whose family was on the receiving end. It was in a real sense 'INHUMAN' like stabbing bayonets into the stomachs of young pregnant females.
Another factor worth considering. When it was almost a foregone conclusion that Pakistan was going to lose the war, and that Bangladesh's creation was indeed becoming a reality, An incident is treated like a heroic action. Mr. ZA Bhutoo tearing up the UNSC proposal on the floor of the assembly. Bhutto should have accepted the peace proposal and thus saved Pakistan from breaking up. Guess what the date was when he tore up the papers? December 15, 1971. The next day Lt. A A K Niazi surrendered.
Was it all coordinated? I am not sure.
There are several other factors worth considering.
But kudos to you for two points - 1) In short, vlog you put in most content that was possible. 2) You have been honest and truthful.
    Thank you for that.

I agree with your most points but on the role of Jamat islami you are describing a typical Indian stance. JI was defending Pakistan and providing s response to multi Bahani crested by India. Indian coercive role should be discussed and acknowledged but you choose not to. No country has the right to intervene into another country’s affair but India did and this hastened the process. There was indeed discontent but it was allowed to prosper due to India’s vested interest because India never accepted creation of Pakistan and thus presented a golden opportunity.

    • @siddharthsinha2342
      @siddharthsinha2342 Před rokem +17

@Ashard Khwaja It is not an 'Indian stance' its a reality. Bangladesh courts recently awarded death penalty to JeI head for his actions in 1971.

As a Pakistani who has studied the facts of 1971, I don't have words to express to my Bangladeshi brothers and sisters how profoundly sorry I am.
What our ancestors did in the years leading up to Bangladesh's formation is absolutely horrific and deserving of the harshest punishment.
I wish there was a way we could take it all back, some way we could remedy those injustices. And if it's some consolation, I assure you the overwhelming majority of ordinary Pakistanis both then and now would hang their heads in shame if they knew the real history.
It's too much to ask but I hope today's generation of Bengalis can look past their grievances and anger and see us as their friends and brothers who want nothing but the very best for you and your country.
May the nation of Bangladesh prosper, stays independent, and moves from strength to strength. May you achieve greatness in all domains, be it economy, technology, social harmony, or military.

If you rewrite history by half-truths and misdirections, history will rewrite you. Well done Mr Muzammil, it takes a special kind of courage to speak out thus...but please, please do also exercise caution. Osmani to the post of Chief of Bangladesh Army, but President Sk. Mujib installed him in civil service instead to not create any seniority crisis in Bangladesh Army. He was Bangladesh's ambassador to the United Nations.
He is revered by Bengali officers and soliders who also served in Pakistan Army prior to 1971. He didn't give a damn to what the Pak high-ups would view it as but addressed the darbar of East Bengal Regiment units in Bangla language. His name plate in his house in Rawalpindi was inscribed in Bengali language.

Syed, you mentioned the story that has been narrated in the UN, USA, UK, and India.
One thing you forgot to mention... USA initially turned a blind eye about the Genocide and human rights issues going on in East Pakistan. When India presented the Genocide data to UN .... that is when China and the USA did not want to support Pakistan. Also, the involvement of Russia (with India) became an issue for the US.
You missed another very important point. Upon returning to Pakistan from the UN .... Butto said a very racist word about Bangaldeshi people. Some Pakistani ministers were shocked when he said that.

After independence, India too faced challenges due to linguistic diversity. Protests started in south India for reorganising states acc. to languages. Nehru was against this idea as he thought it to be a threat to our national unity & integrity. Commissions were formed they too rejected this idea. But eventually Nehru has to accept it. While Indian constitution ask for promoting hindi as communicating link in India instead of English, south India is still averse to this idea. North has their regional languages too but hindi has strong presence there. Lesson here is sometimes accepting diversity can be the reason for the unity & cohesion. India is a strong example of that. Every state has its own culture, food, language, identity.

True! And that repulsion to Hindi in South India has kept English alive in the country, which eventually gave us an edge in the services sector, helping us develop a robust economy that exports services and brings foreign exchange into the country. Sometimes, listening to your own people instead of imposing something helps.
