An Entire Video About the Super Smash Bros Intros

- The Super Smash Bros intros are really cool. So cool in fact that I did a video on them that's longer than the combined length of all of them. We got Super Smash Bros 64, Super Smash Bros Melee, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Smash Bros 4, and even Super Smash Bros Ultimate. (And the 3DS one.)
I have a Twitter you can follow: CeeganS?t=yY5x5x1... - Hry
It's honestly crazy how well Melee's intro synced with the music; when Shiek's harp section comes up it's one of the prettiest pieces of music in any video game imo. Even if Brawl and Ultimate are better musical pieces, Melee is still the king of intros (up there with Mario Strikers Charged and Mario Power Tennis)
Dude for real though. The Melee intro music makes me feel shit. You can really tell that a lot of love went into all aspects of it.
When DuoStuff arrives on the stage I like to think it's a one frame animation with him face down on the ground, then suddenly being up and ready for battle!
Yeah that sounds about right honestly.
What's your favorite intro and why? Be sure to tell me in the comments down below.
Also the SA2 video got delayed due to real-life circumstances, so get ready for some Smash content instead!
In hindsight a lot of the non gameplay clips in the Melee intro made me think there was a hidden story mode in it. This was before Brawl and I spent hours trying to find a way to see a longer scene of Samus' Gunship, the Great Fox, and Blue Falcon going through that city.
I think Ultimates intro is the tryhard one. which kinda befits the game as it's trying to recapture the magic the series had pre-four but that's just how I look at it tbh
I never really thought about it, but it does kinda seem like it implies a story mode doesn't it?
Well we got one in Brawl, so it wasn't a huge loss anyways.
Your comedic timing lands more often than not in this video. It’s really charming.
That's actually really comforting to hear. Like straight up I just put in things I think are funny, but I have no clue how others feel about it usually.
I agree that Melee has the best intro, but it feels kinda unfair to compare the more recent games when their cinematic budget is going into producing trailers. Most of the newcomers since Villager have gotten trailers, and nearly all of them have been cinematic. Considering how important those trailers are to Smash’s hype cycle, and how much discussion they drum up, I think they’ve sort of taken the role of the intros.
I just think it's a bit odd that they didn't just use the CG commercial they had as the intro, maybe with some more characters. Would've served a double-purpose then.
But either way, I get your point, and I agree. I just think it's sad that we lost something cool along the way.
Another amazing DuoStuff video as usual!!
Well thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
For Ultimate, I absolutely love the World Of Light intro. Its initial trailer got me SO HYPE for the game.
Same for me actually.
And then I played it and... Wasn't a fan. XD
@@DuoStuff Sorry to hear that! I had a blast playing it. Loved how all the fights referenced their source material games. And on my initial playthrough, some of them were pretty challenging! Felt good to come back to them and finally beat the fight.
So I enjoyed the references I guess, but it went on for WAY TOO LONG in my opinion. After a while, the appeal of doing the same thing over and over with minor changes doesn't really appeal to me.
I prefer something like Subspace honestly, and I would've rather had another one of those.
@@DuoStuff I really liked Subspace as well. I really should go back and play through it again at some point.
the Mario vs Kirby thing is mainly just Sakurai wanting his creation and baby (Kirby) to be the main character I think.
Yeah no I actually prefer the gameplay showcases myself. Specially in Ultimate. It frames what you're about to do in a more cinematic manner with the unique shots and the like. Prerendered cutscenes are... Alright, but I'm a bigger fan of using the gameplay itself to make something cinematic. Feels more honest
Well I guess it's more honest, but I don't really feel the same impact. Compare the Zelda scenes from Melee, these gorgeous cinematics, to Young Link and Toon Link awkwardly taunting before running to fight Ganondorf. It just doesn't look as cool to me at all.
11:22 you just explained one of my issues with my series instead of focusing on a variety of modes and content it only focuses on the look who's here and not on fun modes to play I hope the next game goes back to what the orignals did and have more content
Its honestly nice to rediscover this channel again after the first time with the beginning of the creepypasta videos and the nsmb retrospective.
Well thank you! I'm trying my best to keep stuff interesting at least.
5:36
The love for Earthbound in this video makes me like this channel even more.
Wasn’t expecting this after the teaser from the last episode but I’m definitely not complaining
Well Super Princess Peach is the next video. These teases aren't always "the next video" and will instead sometimes be "the next Mario video," or something like that.
A good intro is how you get people to be exited to play the game.
A bad intro is sonic forces
I mean yeah, pretty much. XD
I love these Super Smash Brothers intros!
you say that melee doesnt reuse stuff, but there's still gameplay footage, other than that great video per usual!
Well the gameplay is like 10% of the intro, so I gets a pass. XD
@@DuoStuff fair, the others rely on it way harder
i just wished every smash game made it where the announcer's voice was coming from two cans and a string. AND yell out the name of the game.
just him saying SUPER SMASH BROTHERSSSSSSSSS MELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE will forever be ingrained in my head and just wished he did it
for the other games. although him saying WII UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU or 3DSSSSSSSSSSSS will sound weird. maybe if he says SUPER SMASH BROTHERS FOOOUUUUUUURRRRRRRRR.
also side note i like smash 4 solely because you can change your special moves. woulda been cool if that was in ultimate and they balanced that. oh well
also you would think that a game called smash ultimate would have an AMAZING fast paced energetic intro. but we what get instead is depression and it doesn't get you pumped like
64 and melee's
I still really miss the announcer too. Though part of it, as you said, is because of the odd naming conventions with Smash 4.
And yeah, Ultimate's intro is really lowkey (and kinda lame honestly.) Still don't know why we *still* only have gameplay with it. lol
Brawl’s initial trailer was incredible, that should have been the intro
Video Games intros are just the glorified versions of the inspirational posters your teacher keeps around their classroom.
Well maybe, but with less cats and more people beating each other up. XD
Good video
How could you talk about the Brawl theme music and not mention that it was composed by Nobuo Uematsu? No wonder it's so good!
13:16 press any butt heh
I find it funny that the gameplay intros are ligit just watching what you are about to do, play the game
While that's true, that's way more boring than the alternative as well.
Sakurai coincidently inspired the OP based on Toy Story 1
I've heard the Kirby vs Mario thing is basically a Sakurai vs Miyamoto OC fight kind of thing . Or at the very least, the creator OC vs the main video game guy
Yeah that's probably what it is, which I'm gonna be real, as much as I like Kirby games, IDK if the series is really a match for Mario. That's just my opinion though.
@@DuoStuff oh yeah, it's not even close. the original super Mario Bros has sold about as much as the whole Kirby franchise. But what Sakurai says goes! Lol
That's indeed how it goes.
I need the kirby full song
This is the second best video in which someone plays Smash Bros with Luigi.
Well I actually didn't "play" much of anything for this video. Just kinda talked about some intros.
@@DuoStuff The opening skit reminded me of "Luigi in the real world".
Oh I see. That makes sense. XD
Yeah, the Ultimate intro could have been that commercial to be honest, with proper music added to it since the commercial didn't have any for some reason other than the "it goes with everything" meme.
Hooooolly Scott
Is this a good or bad reaction? lol
This is just a relaxalax video
I appreciate your video, but I don't agree with the criticism of Ultimate's intro. It's too easy for us as consumers to forget that these games, like all games, have limited resources, not necessarily in terms of money (though that exists too) but in man hours. Melee's intro was a very dedicated item that resources were being put into, and for Brawl, it was the 47 minutes of full cutscenes for the Subspace Emissary. I think that Ultimate's gameplay driven intro is very carefully produced in how and when it shows the various characters, and there is enough variety to the shots to really create something dynamic. I think it ultimately comes down to players in general having built up such a clear, innate ability to recognize cutscenes as opposed to gameplay that we kind of arbitrarily rank the two as either "I'm seeing cutscene" or "I'm seeing gameplay" without necessarily thinking too much about what specifically is on screen. Additionally, I think that your ending statement about "changing priorities" really reflects this, that now Nintendo "is less focused on the intros themselves and more on a bunch of characters"... I mean, what were those original intros largely showcasing?
💚
Appreciate the green heart as always!
Are you gonna do a Metroid dread analysis?
Honestly probably not at this rate. I don't really do those kinda videos anymore sadly.
@@DuoStuff I understand well I will say I did thoroughly enjoy those videos I listened to them all day today at work including your Luigi’s mansion one literally unlocked so many memories of play throughs from when I was younger. Thank you
I actually like sm4sh aswell. I’m kinda surprised they couldn’t add an update that adds an fmv similar to how they gave cloud a “new final smash” in an update in ultimate, after bayonetta is released. I’d honestly love to see nintendo do a collab with sega or an animation studio to make an intro in the style of sonic cd (2011) or sonic mania.
Dude for real. I would've loved if they'd updated with a new intro, one that hopefully included all the DLC characters as well.
Ultimate's the same actually. It'd be nice if they replaced that random section of characters fighting on FD at the end to all the DLC characters or something.
I watch them…
Well you're one of the few then. XD
The .png joke killed me!
but yeah i've seen better lifelight amvs online
Pretty much. XD (Also glad you liked that joke.)
Smash 4 had the best newcomers hands down
If we don't count DLC, then definitely yeah. It's a good mix of popular choices, whacky choices, and more niche but incredibly deserving choices. It's also why I got introduced to Xenoblade, so I appreciate it a ton.
@@DuoStuff Smash 4 is actually what gave me my lifelong interest in the Pac-Man series, and I was slowly getting to that point prior.
I'm honestly so glad with how Pac Man turned out in 4. They picked the World design (my personal favorite) instead of that horrible Ghostly Adventures design.
Hey, I like smash 4 too. Specifically the 3DS verson
I like both versions, though nowadays I might prefer the 3DS one honestly.
@@DuoStuff nice! ^w^
👍
Glad you liked it!
I’ve never played Melee.
I wouldn't really say it's worth returning to if you haven't already played it, but it is still very fun, like the rest of the Smash games.
@@DuoStuff dang that’s an unpopular opinion! I am thinking about playing it though, since I want to get my own thoughts on it.
Well like it is fun as I said. I don't think it's that unpopular of an opinion honestly. XD
lmfao the xbox controller
Brawl's intro is a masterpiece. If you disagree, you are objectively wrong.😂
Indeed
You forgot the best one yet! Smash 4 on the 3DS
I didn't though.
@@DuoStuff r/woosh
I guess the joke I going over my head because I literally showed the 3DS "intro." So what is the joke I'm missing.
@@DuoStuff that I am an idiot… 😐
Ah I see you saw that part then.
pause at 13:17 hehehe
I don't see anything particularly notable about that timestamp. What was notable?
@@DuoStuff look at what it tells you to press
Why are you wearing a mask by yourself inside?
It's an edgy OC thing. No other reason to wear it.
I think Smash Bros went from being that badass franchise that brought together several characters together to become more of a fighting game focused (not entirely) on the competitive. Maybe it's not really that, but brawl was the last smash that 10 years from now can be enjoyed as it was in 2009
And honestly, as much as new cool characters and new modes are coming, I don't think it has the same charm as the first 3 games.
I kinda feel that way too. Don't get me wrong, I still got a lot of enjoyment out of Smash 4 and Ultimate, but something was just... Different about them at a fundamental level. Brawl and Melee just have this charm, this character, this oomph that's lacking in the newer ones.
And now that the character reveals are done and the hype is over, Ultimate feels hollow in a way the older games never did.
Nice argument on brawl not being the best intro unfortunately you did not hear of his fame, him who ran alone in the enemy forces and destroyed everything he touched
I think I have though. Despite his fame, Melee is still tops. XD
First here!
Nice to have you! Hope you enjoy the video!
Smash 4 sucks so bad
I honestly still like it. I had a lot of fun with it.
@@DuoStuff Yeah me too to be frank XD If I stop being a hater for a second, I had some good times with it for sure
In either case, great video content & editing!
Well thank you! Hopefully the Brawl video (and the Super Princess Peach video that technically releases before it) is just as enjoyable.
I don’t know if you’re still working on creepy pasta part 5 but anyways you need to read/listen to the best creepy pasta ever created in that masterpiece is Jeff the potato the strongest fictional character known to man czcams.com/video/yzGRUCbcqVQ/video.html this is a link to someone reading his story and you have to listen to it immediately
