At the grand Old age of 56, I've bought my first goldwing, managed to bag a 2008 airbag/nav. One owner with only 4,760 miles from new... Its beautiful and surprisingly easy to handle, I'm only a shorty at 5"6. 29"leg. And within a couple of hours it's like I've been riding it forever... What a bike
Ha! I got you beat! I am an old Harley guy but always a secret Wing lover. I bought my pristine Wing this past June at 61. Mine is an 08, but only had 26k miles. Bike looks and rides like new.
Do you have any issues handing the bike at slow speeds and maneuvers at slow speeds,,i i now ride a 780 lb suzuki m109 and it can be tricky at slow speeds but it doesent have the mass a goldwing does,,i been looking for one with low miles and a decent price,,most people are asking thousands above blue book value,,

Glad you enjoyed your GoldWing At 71 I bought a 2014 GL1800 and having it triked in Telford. Been waiting for a bike since my Bantam 125 … 55 years ago
I like the Goldwing. I have owned three. A 1983 1100 Interstate, a 1985 1200 Aspencade, and a 1998 1500 Standard. I put over 200,000 miles on them. Unfortunately I had to give up the last one several years ago, due to health problems. It was just too big and heavy. I was fine cruising down the highway, but almost dropped it several times in parking lots, and was unable to push it around the garage. I am NOT a fan of the latest Goldwings, because they are all FLAT BLACK. The FLAT BLACK disease seems to have affected every single motorcycle out there. What little touring I still do I am doing on a 1997 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 and a 2006 Sportster 1200L. The one in your video looks great. I love the red color, and all the silver and chrome. Honda no longer sells one in those colors. I noticed you got on from the right side, cop style. I always get on a motorcycle from the left, because the left side is lower with the bike on the sidestand, and easier to get my leg over. I have never owned a motorcycle with ABS brakes, and never will. And I don't want brakes that will lock up with barely a touch of you little finger either. I want brakes that can be modulated easily, and won't lock up without an extreme amount of force on the lever/pedal. I am not a fan of self canceling turn signals. What works fine on a car does not work on a motorcycle. My Sportster 1200 has self canceling turn signals. You turn the signal on, and it cancels before the turn. You then turn it on again, and it remains on after you have made the turn. I don't see canceling the turn signals manually as a big deal, I've been doing it for 50 years. I would also never ride a bike with a DCT. Might as well get a scooter. And certainly no electric bikes, though I maybe on an electric mobility scooter in the not too distant future. I did put much shorter than stock windshields on all of my Goldwings. The stock windshields caused extreme helmet buffeting. And I can't deal with a windshield that I can't see over. I would have to have a long ladder to get on a GS.
Love the video mate! Well done. Well, firstly - I have to say that I have been riding for last 50+ years (yeah I'm an old bugger now - just realised haha). Had a lot of fun with old "chook chasers" (trail bikes) and have gone through all the mid-range bikes to super sports ones too (like several Honda Fireblades, VF1000's, plus many more) as well as several other litre+ bikes. Have won the NEWTS run also (it's an around Australia competition)- North, East, West Then South. (or others would say "you'd have to be as pis??d as a newt" to even consider - hahaha!). Hi Mate ... 2008 Wing owner from Barnsley ... Bit of advice mate ... Self cancel flashers can be stopped if required it's just a switch on bottom yoke. ... Strip arse end & wire up upper brake lights & flashers in top box, just need 2 flasher & 2 stop n tail bulb holders, drill & file lamps to accept bulb holders, pattern holders cheap on ebay or OEM from Appleyards up the road, make your own loom up & spice into lower pannier loom ... Flush clutch & brake fluid every year ... Keep a regular check on the head bearings ... Honda were very tight with the grease, often shows head bearing play when checked & front end becomes mega nervous when riding slowly, keep off the front brake at low speeds if poss or you can end up on your arse, easy to drop it as brakes can be a bit grabby al low speeds even though they're linked ... keep screen vent open a tad, equalises are pressure on both sides of screen, less buffeting ... Sat/Nav's a joke, was out of date when bike came out, don't waste any money on an update disc, use ya phone, it's always up to date, radio's a joke, adding in an MP3 to play from a flash drive is easy, but can be hit & miss to get it to play what you want as system's not designed to communicate with MP3, but it can be done sort of.... Agreed too many chrome farkles look naff & tacky ... Enjoy the magic carpet ride & the flat 6 grunt.👍
We have the same bike, colour n everything. I added a separate circuit to keep it in reverse to help prevent theft. I love this model and the GL1500 versions. Put 880k on my GL1500 and 60k on this bike in 9 months. I absolelty love wings (not the newer ones)
I had a GL1000 back in the 1980's, then a GL1800 two years ago. I now run two bikes, one of which is an old Kawasaki Voyager xii. It oozes character and I love it.
I owned an 1800 Gold-Wing and test ridden (a long ride) a BMW K1600. I found the K1600 engine to be far smoother than my Wing (which I owned at the time I test rode the BMW). Indeed, for me the BMW was superior in almost every way except for 1: It wasn't a Gold-Wing. I ended up selling the Wing as I wanted something a bit more sporty (bought a Hayabusa) but am now looking for a mile-muncher to tour on next year (Spain). This is where it gets interesting because I don't have enough positive memories of the GW and its performance to make me think "It's got to be another Wing". So I'm looking at buying a used K1600 to use for one season.
Fantastic review. Always wanted a GW but ended up getting an Electra Glide. I’m 55 and it’s time. Planning on selling my Blackbird, give the Harley to my son and let the GW be the last bike I get. Ahem, cough.. maybe.
Had to sell my 2018 Harley ultra limited 3m ago to raise some cash. Now looking at an older Goldwing but conscious of weight and rapidly approaching 66 years old. I coped with Harley (a similar weight) and figure that having a reverse on the Wing gives me a few more years. Tricky decision. I had a suzuki gsx1400 in the blue and white and it was a fantastic bike. I used to call it my Jag on 2 wheels! White wheels are hopeless to keep clean with chain oil and brake dust but it could be done!
You obviously hate the left hand lane.....As regards the GSA I believe it is called Urban Camo....make of that what you will. If you ever get the chance , try the 7 speed DCT GL1800.
Amazing video.....throughly enjoy. I'm currently riding a Bonneville T100 and looking to upgrade to goldwing. I have some decent experience say round 10+ years but just worried about the weight of GW. What's your recommendation or suggestion.
Thank you.... It's very heavy for sure but the weight is carried low down so it is more manageable but it will feel massively different to your T100 in both weight and size so please try one first if you can 👍
You can always add Landing Gear which drop down when you come to a stop, but because the weight is down low you have a lower centre of gravity. Goldwings are heavy but they are not as bad as what you might think, and all that weight disappears once you get going and they handle really well. But take one for a ride first though and make sure you are comfortable with such a big bike.
Nice ride and discussion. But you didn't mention the airbag at all. I have a 2008 airbag model (Titanium), with just a few chrome accents. Also don't like excessive bling. People say these sound like sewing machines. Can't argue with that. BTW, I think these airbag models weigh 930 lbs dry. Have many safe rides, and I hope you (and I) never get to see how the airbag actually works.
