    I retired early and we left the Unites States. We lived in Mexico for a little bit but my wife was able to get her Italian citizenship so here we are. Currently in Lucca finding a long term rental. Best wishes for your channel.

      That sounds great! The cost of living here in Salento is extremely low so the amounts you would need here are much lower than in the US. Good luck!

    So glad I found your channel! My husband and I are looking to reitre (early) to Italy. We are from the Northeast USA and as you know, it's getting so unaffordable and the weather is awful most of the year. I am able to get our Italian citizenship (thank you grandma!) so hopefully that will work. Good luck to you and looking forward to more videos. Would love to see you share how much it costs you to grocery shop in Italy. As you know food costs in the USA are outrageously high.

      Hi Stephanie! In hindsight we would have prepared our property before moving here! If you are able to do that and plan ahead you will have a seamless transition that will be comforting when making such a huge life change! Thanks for watching!

    Do you have a video about how you found your house and the buying process? Wow, I saw your other video and it looks so nice.

      Hi SD! We used @salentowithlove3314 and they helped us find, buy and refurbish the property. It took some time to do but it was worth it!

    No-one actually explains the requirements to obtain a Visa to reside in Italy. As Australian Pensioners (in our 70s) who would be able to purchase a property, have savings BUT apparently only INCOME is counted and our pensions fall short. If retired, noone mentions the income required to apply for residency.

    • @salvesalento
      @salvesalento  Před rokem

      Hi FlowerFairy! Since the residency visa is on a year by year basis if you can show enough savings in addition to your pensions and explain that in the letter you are required to write you most likely will get approved- providing that you would be able to have available the limits they require. No harm in applying- won’t know unless you try. I hope you do you may be surprised! Good luck!!

      @@salvesalento Hi I contacted the Italian Embassy here in Melbourne and was advised only income counts; doesn't matter savings or proceeds from house sale. Might have to book a seat in a dinghy as that seems to be a guarantee of entry with all expenses paid.

      @@salvesalento PS Before you apply for an Elective (Retirement) Visa you either need a rental lease agreement or purchased a property BUT if you don't meet income requirements (even with savings) no point in applying. Who is going to commit to a 12-month lease or purchase a property and then be rejected. Italy obviously only want 'wealthy' people. We are also eligible to apply for Irish Passports (and thought this might be the better way in) but, again, if you want to stay longer than 90+ days you need proof of "substantial income".

    I wish you could be a little more specific on what your financial situation was that made you retire and move to Italy.

      Hi William! Our decision wasn't based on financials- my husbands job was very stressful and we decided that it was time for a break. We sold our home in the US so we were ok to apply for the visa here but no longer need it because Dennis has italian citizenship. Thanks for your comments!

    For the residency visa requirement of a certain amount of money, I'm assuming that's per year? Not just in the bank? So how do you go about earning money in Italy since I've heard that most jobs there are low-paying jobs. Online work?

    • @salvesalento
      @salvesalento  Před rokem +3

      Hi David! You cannot work in Italy on a residency visa. If you would like to work in Italy you would need to obtain a different type of visa that allows you to work. A residency visa is made for people who are retiring and have a steady guaranteed income. For more information you should visit the website of the Italian consulate for your jurisdiction. Hi Shannon! It doesn’t take years in Italy! The consulates are backed up over 3 years for appointments. If you can swing a 90 day max trip here you can get the citizenship done. We know someone here if you’re interested!

      @@salvesalento Ahhhh....I know!! I was lucky enough to snag an appointment. We're heading to the consulate next Tuesday. Detroit allows other family members to attend one appointment, so even though it takes longer than applying in Italy, it's better for my family since we couldn't all get away to Italy.

    Question: You mentioned you need EUR39,000 for a couple to get a residency visa. Does that mean you need to show that you have that much in a savings account each year or that you need to prove that's how much verifiable INCOME you earn each year (through pension or SS)? Thanks!

    • @salvesalento
      @salvesalento  Před rokem +3

      Hi Calipeixegato! This is taken from the visa application from consulate in Miami “-Documented and detailed guarantee of substantial and steady private income (including pensions or annuities) from property, stable economic and commercial activities or from other sources and proof of financial means, such as letters from the applicant’s bank indicating the financial status of their accounts, including amount of money in each account, copy of last pension check received etc.”. We interpreted it as they want to see that you have a combination of accounts that will generate that amount of money each year or a combination of them will. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching!!

      Yes - whether you own property or not you still need the minimum required income to qualify.
