I tend to shop weekly so these kind of big shops make me feel anxious I’d never have the space to store all that and would then be overthinking what to make with it all? is anyone else like that with huge food shops? I do like to watch them though, it looks like you are well stocked up and make some interesting things yourself, plus lots from scratch, would love to see how you make curries, dips etc - it must save a lot to cook like that rather than reach for a jar of curry sauce or pre-made dips - I bet homemade are far nicer too

Wow, it’s amazing to see how much food you get from the shops for not too much money. I’m in the US, am plant based, and shop at Whole Foods and I spend around $400 per month for just myself. 😢 I have an Aldi nearby but have been disappointed in the quality and selection there.

I hear you! We could very easily spend that if we went to different stores and bought the more high end products but we do keep it really basic and of course the community larder subsidies’ our food budget a lot! 🌻💛🌻

So having a community larder and eating no meat is a big reason you can keep your expenses low rather than just being frugal.

That of course helps, but we don’t eat out, meal plan and write lists and try to avoid brands and stick to the value brands. 🌻💛🌻

I think not eating so much meat is a tool more people would benefit from. It can be healthier and cheaper. We eat far too much meat these days.

We spend £150-£200 weekly . Don’t know how you do that and I cook from scratch and don’t buy crap snacks

so glad to have stumbled across your chanel. How.does your community pantry work? do people donate the food, and then others buy it at a set price?
Also, are you planning on showing us what meals you make in the future?
    thanks

      Hi! Thank you and welcome!
So I pay a set amount of £17.50 per month or £5 per week and for that I get to pick 10 items from the dry goods section. Then there is a huge table of fruits/vegetables/bread and refrigerated items that you get to take what you need (within reason).
The food comes from a few places. Items from supermarkets that have gone out of date and would be destined for the bin, supermarket surplus and food banks. 🌻💛🌻

If you are on Facebook see if you have a community Facebook group for your area and this is a good place to ask. Or you could contact your local food bank and ask them, they should know what’s around, 🌻💛🌻

New subscriber. Wish I knew how I could get in contact with a community larder....it's a steal. How does one find out about them...?

I’m hopefully going to make a video going into details about this as had loads of questions.
But if you have a Facebook page for your local area ask there, (might have a different name like community fridge), call your local food bank to see if they know of anywhere and ask your local church they might know too.

Pop into a local church or community centre, they would likely know where the nearest ‘community food shop’ is. - ours is attached to a local church and is £5 a shop (maximum of 2 shops a week) with a £5 annual membership fee - we also have surplus food at a local community centre which is free and which also has a very reasonable cafe
