I like the ones that auto lock, and you push the button for them to retract.
Oh, yeah that is a really nice feature.
I use the Stanley Fatmax. I’ve only ever owned that and the Stanley you reviewed. I like that the fatmax defaults to locking when I extend the tape until I press the release. Other than that it’s just a bulkier Stanley. I like the size, maybe my hands are bigger. I don’t trust my tape measures for any accuracy. I use calipers are rulers when I need accuracy.
Yeah I hear you on the accuracy but I was surprised they were all within 1/32” at least over six inches except for the Festool (what’s up with that). Yeah auto locking is a nice feature. None of mine have that but I’ve used the fatmax and it is nice.
@@BuildItMakeIt I’m most surprised by the festool. They have a bit of a reputation for quality and fit and finish. I thought I was extravagant owning two tape measures. Now my mind is at ease. That’s a lot of metrology equipment.
@@gmvader yeah I have a couple more mostly metric and other cheap ones. Ive got a tape measure problem.
Yeah I’m super disappointed in the Festool. Honestly though the circle maker on it is soooo nice that I haven’t thrown it away, but that’s the only thing I use it for. Now I’m suspect of it’s length measurement though I’m pretty bummed.
Comparing the feel of 25ft tape measurers to 16ft is going to lean towards the 16ft every time. Plus, Stanley has better ones than this available with rounded edges and rubber grips. Personally, I saw other reviews and decided to go the Stanley FatMax route with a 25' and a handful of the 6' to keep at all my tools.
Good point on the 25 vs 16. One of my good friends loves the Stanley FatMax and a number of people have mentioned that one is their favorite. I should get my hands on one. Thanks!

If Festool put half as much of their total effort towards their tools as they do their marketing.... It's like the millionares' Harbor Freight. A mirror image. Spend lots of money for a couple single tools. Your $57, branded, and laser engraved, speed square is more of a French Curve left on the dashboard in summer, but they do make that one production level saw that's the same price as the German guys and is WAY easier to swap blades and clean.
Yeah, I am pretty bummed at the festool tape measure, especially for the money it could have been amazing.
Where is Tajima? You are only testing marketed consumer brands for the uneducated.
