Thanks for the great review Shane, I have the same bike/ PM so its great to know everything is all good!
Great Video, I've bin on back order waiting for one of these for a few months, any doubts I had, have all been put to rest. đ
what's most impressive about all of this is your 10 second power on the bike! well done Shane :)
Happy days. I use this powermeter since 2019, Iâm absolutely happy how it works.
Thanks for testing
Thorough as ever, thanks Senor Llama. Btw, 10 sec sprint that hits 1200 sounds bloody good to me.
Thanks Shane! I got a sweet deal from my friend today. I live the Garmin V3 dual! The actual look style pedals are the best! However, o did not want to speed 600+ on a V3S version just for the pedal feel. The quarq is installed and I canât wait to use it!
Another great vid Mr Lama.
HAHA!!! I am glad to see you gave us a bit of an update with the sigeyi ! I am glad they were able to send you one and it's awesome getting notifications in the trainerroad forum.
I was out testing those again after I published this video. Stay tuned! :)
I ordered an Xcadey (same power meter as the Sigeyi? ). Package got lost and they refuse to send me another one. Just be cautious!
Thanks for the review! Chatting with my dealer now to see if they can hook me up with the spider PM :)
Great review! Thanks so much. Didn't know pedal-based PM's would be so accurate :-)
Good stuff explains things and simple to understand.
Love your work Shaneđ
Keep it up
Thanks đ
I've recently got a Orbea Orca Aero with SRAM Force AXS and bought this power meter for it. I fitted it myself which is pretty easy except for removing the crank as that was on and very scary when you get the first turn and you hear a massive crunch. Anyway with the weather here i've not managed to get the bike out on the open road much yet but the odd test i've done with my wahoo kickr core on zwift the readings are very much the same as you have shown in your video.
Great review. Quarq/SRAM kicking goals on all counts here. Shimano fans really have nothing comparable except quarq d-four which requires DUB BB anyway.
An option for 24mm spindle is the Rotor INSpdider with their ALDHU24. I can't seem to get a hold of anyone at Rotor anymore.... I'll keep trying.
Great review like always
I'll like see you review P2max
Power meter someday đ
Love it! Great đ
Thanks Shane
I've been using this model for about 500 miles on a trek checkpoint. I ride this thing on gravel, single tracks, road, in the rain, you name it, holding up really well. Covid is sort of soul crushing with the quarantines, but i've got a trainer coming which i'm hoping should hold me over...
I've been eyeing this power meter as an upgrade to my bike. Might have to bite the bullet now
love that you stole pats bike for this;
I'm running the same rig just a size up and absolutely loving mine.
I went the force option because of this option specifically. I dont like the idea of "disposable" power meters.
I did some testing about a month back with;
Wahoo Kickr 18
Favero Assioma Duos
Quarq DZero (same model your reviewing)
Found that they were all within 1 watt with the Favero Assiomas reading the higher of the three (which i would suspect/expect to be the case).
For getting the job done i am loving the Quarq DZero. Only noticed one glitch in recording which i traced back to garmin bridging the pause window.
The TCR is hands down for me a brilliant bike. Its a solid work horse.
Hoping you are going to do a Wahoo XDR conversion video though. gotta do that soon o_O
Wicked Pissah Cool đ
Any comments (read âhoping for a reviewâđ) on the groupset? Would love to hear your insights on the axs vs your Di2. Thanks as always đ
Hey Lama. In these crazy times. It would be nice to see a video; dummy's guide to setting up an indoor setup. What do we need for a midrange setup. Smart Trainer, Zwift, Bike, what else? Laptop as a display? or?
Great video, Shane. Thank you for sharing. I am riding the sram rival crankset with quarc powermeter on my new Canyon CF SL 7 for about 900km now. Very happy with it, beside the sequential mode, which is scrap in my opinion. But that is another story. How can one adjust the 6% offset? Didn't found that point in the sram axs app.
Great review Lama. Iâll stay with my Assioma Duos ... so simple, accurate, reliable, etc, etc.
As someone with both. Unless your bike is coming with the Quarq, i wouldn't suggest going out and buying one if you got Assioma Duos. I love my Assiomas i love my Quarq. However my experience both work perfectly and i can leave my assiomas on another bike and train / race with the quarq.
Loving my left sided only Assioma đ
I have the Assioma Duo pedals and the Uno ones, and I can definitely recommend them. I also have the PowerTap P1 pedals, and I definitely do NOT recommend those.
You can also get the Force AXS crankset GXP with BB90 (Trek) compatibility
Great video!
I just got a Canyon with this power meter. I haven't had it long enough to have any complaints.
Nice one. Which model Canyon?
@@gplama Ultimate SLX 9.0 etap
Quarqs are pretty good except those chain fall brick problems
@@mikicastan Not had a chain drop all week while giving this bike hell.
Shane Miller - GPLama
Its not common if you have adjusted FD and good chainrings
apparently pedal power meters are the gold standard for accuracy and overall best, didn't know that until I watched this video that they're top tier choice.
Not a gold standard as such, nothing can really claim that. A number of pedal meters have proven to be a hood baseline to use in testing other meters.
nice
nice review, if 107 BCD power spider and DZero power spider almost identical, choosing the DZero is much better choice since it's $200 cheaper, and more compatible chainring choices. did i miss anything? what makes 107BCD power spider cost more?
Great video! I have a Canyon Grail SLX with Eagle 12X eTap and 1XForce crankset 42. Sram choice simulator doesn't mention that 42 chainring. I have 165 mm cranks. Can I just buy the spider meter? Is there only one version? Will it fit? Can there be compatibility issues? All help is much appreciated!
Hi Shane, great video. What about the claimed 200h battery life, is that achievable? One of the points (one of many) that I love about my Assiomas is that they are chargeable.
No reason to doubt this. These things last months. Not something Iâve put to the lest in the Lama Lab like I did with the Assioma.
Great review Shane! Please... give me a tip... how you use axs with elite direto?
With an XDR driver hub addon.
Shane Miller - GPLama awesome :-)
In the past when Iâve reinstalled DZero units, itâs taken a week or two to truly âsettleâ for some reason. Might also just be placebo ...
Hi Shane, do you think the performances of this PM are the same of the one of the OE sram red AXS? To be clear the PM that do not have the possibility to change the chainrings.
Thanks for the review!!!
I assume it'd be the same performance given it's the same tech under the hood.
Hi Shame, great ,work!
What do recommendation for super record? Cheers Alan
I have no idea sorry. I'm not across any Campag gear.
faveros - and they are italian..
Thanks for the review! Is it dual;
A spider power meter measures total power, so left and right. It doesn't have dual sensor/measurement of each side like some crank based or pedal power meters.
@@gplama Thank you very much!!
Hi, can this be used on the new sram rival axs 1x or is the crank a different shape?
Great review! Can I use that with a threaded bottom bracket?
I doubt it... but that'd be one to ping across to SRAM Support.
Yeah they make a dub bb for BSA, but they do not make it for Italian thread.
Shane, would you per chance have the L/R balance comparison available? I'm battling against trying to understand why I am 50/50 on a direct drive trainer, and 44/56 on the road, both measured by a DZero. I don't have the balance from the trainer (the Dorito).
(As much as I tend to hate everything SRAM, I need to agree this PM is a no-brainer.)
My L/R data would be interesting, but not much use. It's a L/R split estimate. I may loop back and do a video on this if I get a chance. For true/REAL balance you need a different meter.
I predict that in the next 2-3 years, we'll be able to purchase accurate power meters in the $200-300 USD range with lots of features, that will be almost as good as the $600-800 USD power meters.
If these other spider meters can get their code/hardware right, it'll be much sooner.
Very helpful video! What would be more accurate, a spider PM that estimates L/R or a single sided pedal based PM like Garmin Vector 3S or Assioma UNO? - Thanks!
Accurate for what exactly? Total power?
@@gplama Individual power, since both are estimates - which would make the best estimate?
@@kelvinlai-ping3779 There's two data points here. Total power and L/R balance. Power from a spider meter will me more 'accurate' as it measures total input. Power from a left only unit guesses the right side. For the most accurate L/R balance then a dual sided pedal or crank arm based power meter would have the best chance at being most accurate at reporting L/R balance.
Thanks and love your content!
Danke schon einmal vorab fĂŒr irgendwelche infos hierzu.
Do you get dynamic range of data with the gain head unit
@gplama Which varia mount are you using on the TCR?
The aero seatpost mount that was in the box.
Can you still do the static calibration with the latest firmware, then? And can you do a manual zero offset and turn the auto-zero off? Thanks, Shane
Yes and yes.
@@gplama Thank you
@GPLama will this fit onto the rival Axs crankset?
No. The Rival AXS has a built-in spider. You could put on a Force AXS crankset and use that with other Rival AXS components.
Do I need to change the BB if I already have a sram force 22 groupset? Iâve only ordered the spider.
Spider needs to fit your crank, and thatâs what needs to fit your bike. I assume itâs GXP for Force 22.
Anyone knows if this Power Meter can or cannot be installed on the latest Rival AXS Wide Cranks?
Since your pedals measure L/R balance, how accurate is the Spider in estimating the L/R balance?
It depends. It's never all that accurate for a spider meter. For the 200/250 ERG session of the Lama Lab Test shown in this video:
Avg Left Power
Force AXS 115.37 w
Assioma 110.13 w
Avg Right Power
Force AXS 111.80 w
Assioma 113.87 w
someone knows if it is possible to pair it with POLAR Vantage V watch?
How noisy was the Force Axs cassette? Seen a quite few complaints online about noisy Force even after adjustment/indexing. Switching to a Red cassette the solution ($$$)
It seems a little louder than my standard Shimano setup. Doesn't seem obnoxious.
My Force cassette is pretty loud, way louder than my 10spd RED. I'll be switching to a red cassette and chain when they wear out (I've done 5k km and they're still pretty good)
Which Zwift training plan should I do for U14 XC MTB races lasting around 55 mins
More XC races of around 55mins. It's impossible to give quality coaching advice without being your coach and looking at your data, history, training response, goals, etc.
Are there any concerns with hanging a bike to a wall that has this style power meter using one of those pedal based wall hangers?
One to check with SRAM. Iâm not sure. Not something Iâd do.
To be honest I had concerns and if your saying itâs not something you would do (I value your opinion), itâs probably enough for me to say I wonât try it and instead go for a stasdock style hanger đthanks for the reply
I've got Sram Force, do I need to get new rings to fit the power meter?
Check the BCD
Recommendations for mtb power meters
SRAM/Quarq have a few options. It depends on the bike/chainset/etc. Or there's the Favero Assioma hack for SPD: czcams.com/video/ybAFIhKahnM/video.html
Power2max is worth looking at
Does it have a speed sensor built into it?
No. Power and cadence.
it does not have to use DUB BB, does it? if i can get my hands on a GXP crankset or my BB90, can i use this spider? thx.
All DUB all the way.... You'll need to switch out your bottom bracket or look for a pre-owned Quarq with GXP.
@@gplama thx for that, Shane.
@@gplama Hey hey hey mate. If this power meter spider's part number is 00.3018.229.000. I now think you were wrong. i just ordered a Force AXS power meter 46/33t GXP 172.5 mm as a whole set from SRAM. They will ship three part numbers, 00.3018.229.000 is the spider. 11.6218.049.000 shall be the chainrings I think. 00.3018.273.009 is the GXP crank arms. I will need to order a BB90 to GXP conversion kit you were right about that. The true "All DUB all the way" i think applies to Rival AXS crankset. No GXP for that at all.
Is there a built in cadence sensor?
Yes (a powermeter does not work without it, so all modern powermeters include cadence).
Can this be used with a Force AXS crank but the GXP spindle? its not clear to me
One for SRAM Support.
@@gplama lol. came here because there is no email contact form on SRAMs website.
This is the Powermeter that SRAM have had to admit defeat on re chainring size and supply teams with traditional c.rings which are only available on the Force variant = jerks Yes small rings work for weekend riders but not Pro's!
Their website says actual left right power measurements. Which is accurate?
You'll get an estimate of Left/Right.... but given the unit has a single point of measurement, it won't be precise.
@@gplama that is the weird part, because I've read both responses in different places, but their website says it measures left and right legs separately. I'll chalk it up to "marketing" www.sram.com/en/sram/models/pm-frc-d1
@@peterfdavidsonify It only has one 'set' of gauges on the spider.... so it can't do anything separately. Marketing, yes. :)
How i calibrate this powermeter? app or garmin?
Zero offset can be performed on a GPS head unit, or via their app. It doesn't matter which one. Better yet - Enable Auto Zero on the unit (MagicZero) and you don't need to worry about this process.
Mine arrived today but I'm pretty sure its broken. Installed everything, paired it seemed to work great but then... It will not auto wake up via rotation. This thing is dead as a brick till i reopen the battery compartment and take the battery out and put it in again. Then it happily boots up, tells me battery status is fine etc. But as soon as it goes into sleep mode it won't fucking turn on even after 1999 crank rotations. Firmware up to date, already tried resetting it etc. nothing helps.
Anyone with similar problems=
So is that an Aussie saying, Shane, "not my cans of tuna" for something you borrowed? I've heard "not my cup of tea" certainly, but not this one about cans of tuna.
No, there were literally cans of tuna on the ground in that shot.
@@gplama That's funny, I didn't notice that, Shane. I'll have to go back and look. But it would make a good saying, "You know, this new tech works great, but it's not really my can of tuna." :)
Una domanda ma questo misuratore da i risultati per destro e sinistro?
It will report an estimate of left/right.
The spider is not compatible with Red 2x chainrings, only Red 1x, so you're still stuck buying the expensive Red 2x chainring with the preinstalled quarq powermeter.
Force 2x rings should do the job, as an alternative.
@@gplama Yeah I know, I was putting together a parts list for a fake dream build and had to change it all up. Sucks. Force is still good.
Nice review, but I will hold my money until I get word on the DUB system from Hambini.
Apparently it's *insert a four letter word here*. Lots of other options on the market to choose from if you're after a power meter.
More sram trash, 1 more option not to consider.
I'll call you out on this. Look at the data. It's accurate, within spec. If you want to see trash feel free to drop by and test any number of meters I have here that are nowhere near this standard.
