  • #MAVERICKWATCHREVIEWS#BESTWATCHREVIEWS I really was blown away by the overall excellent condition of this 47 YEAR OLD Seiko. Again, not a huge fan of the 70's brown but it kind of grew on me...lol. Check out the links to the Pelican case and DC Vintage watches below. *Correction: When researching this watch on DC Vintage Watch's website it said acrylic The crystal is indeed Hardlex and not acrylic. Nick from DC Vintage Watches accidentally put acrylic in the description of the watch instead of Hardlex but has since updated it on his website according to the e-mail he sent me. I have literally reviewed hundreds of Seiko watches and know they use Hardlex so when I saw acrylic instead of Hardlex I was indeed surprised and knew it must have been an oversight on their part.

    Some one else has mentioned the lines of this piece are close to my recraft SRPC11. I wanted to thank you for showing the original. I bought the recraft because it looked so much like the original, which was very similar to yours, and one I purchased the day I reported for basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia the end of July 1969.

    From my research, the acrylic crystal is not original; I have this exact same watch in better condition and it has an original Hardlex crystal. My birth year is also 1971, hence my love for this Seiko. In addition I have a Bellmatic, a 6139-8001 Chrono and a 6139 Pogue all from the same year. I guess I’m a vintage Seikoholic! Thanks for sharing Maverick’s Dad.

    Very interesting and goodlooking watch. You can dye that strap to make it darker brown, to better match the dial, or even dye it black.

    I just bought the exact same watch on original bracelet, born September 1972 just like me, looking for an orange dial version now.

    I have a number of Seiko Vintage Sport watches. My favorite is the 7A48 Fishing Master and the 5126 6030 Rally Diver

    Cool watch. You should really take a look at the 6139 series. They have some awesome color schemes and are all automatic chronographs with a vertical clutch (meaning it's usually better to keep the chrono running on these).

    Thanks for the video! I just bought one of these from 1970 (my birth year). FYI if you push the crown a little further the day of the week changes.

    I believe the crystal is hardlex.

      Might be. I've read that Seiko introduced Hardlex in 1970.

      Even 47 years later it's still a stunner :) I bet anything that within a couple years they'll do a re-issue like they did with the Turtle & Samurai.

    The new recraft collection from seiko would be great comparison. Is there a big difference between the original and replica, or even an improvement.

    • @dcvw6546
      @dcvw6546 Před 6 lety

      Hi Wassili - in my opinion, Seiko of late hasn't improved much regarding their tried and tested movements (obviously depending on the price point at hand). Some of the base Seiko automatic movements back in the 1970s were actually better, again in my opinion, in particular their lower and mid-tier offerings.

    • @JohnMoore-rv4zm
      @JohnMoore-rv4zm Před 6 lety +1

      I believe that like every other new or recraft Seiko of late, the width of the SRPC11 case is about 2mm beefier. All of the new ones are now bigger, even though I think the market is turning back to smaller cases. Anyhow, because the new one, like the old, is lugless, the case is wider than it is long, which is weird. I agree about the old movements. I've got a Seiko 5 Actus I bought in Tokyo in 1970 and it's still ticking after a couple of shakes.

    Ive literally rubbed my fingers raw trying to adjust this mfer. I've read you you can push the crown in to adjust the date however mine doesn't push in at all. Can you confirm this is available on this model and mine is unique?

      Yes, crown should push in.
