Installing Half Inch Lowering Blocks

- I want to switch from the 1 inch lowering blocks that are on the car to 1/2 inch lowering blocks. I am finding that the rear can bottom out on extreme bumps, hoping that an extra 1/2" will do the trick. :)

Been there with the mic issue. Did the same thing you did with the voiceover. Video came out good! I like the stance now.
I almost didn't finish the video when I found the mic wasn't working. I'm glad I finished it, but it was sketchy for a few minutes. :)
Easy peasy! I'm about to do this mod today
Awesome. Heads up, the top pin on those lowering blocks (if you have the exact same blocks) doesn’t seem to be tall enough to engage with the bottom of the axle, therefore the axle position relative to the leaf spring can change before you tighten the u-bolts. Easiest way to fix this is to measure the distance from the axle “pad” to the end of one of the leafs, before you place these 1/2” blocks in the car. By doing this you’ll ensure the position of the axle is the same on both leaf springs.
@AndyKruseChannel I got them installed with no problems, thanks to your video! Mine were a different brand and had an Allen bolt that I was able to back out far enough for it to engage. I can't wait to see that stroker in action. I've been wanting to build one to replace my 302
I used adjustable shackles to raise the back (when people sit in the back it would bottom out rub).. fixed the problem
I thought about that, but this ended up being cheaper. :)
Hi Andy looking at the rear wheel arch I would say it has had a bad repair done there in the past lots of filler over rusty holes might pay to check other areas where this model mustang are prone to rust was the car just painted before you purchased it
Ha, it's worse than you think. :)
Hi Andy, i enjoy your videos even though i work on a 63 comet most of the stuff is the same or close . I recently changed my rear leafs and found that 50 lbs torque was not enough as the one side loosened so i checked and 90 lbs torque was recommended which seems to have fixed the issue, maybe check on your torque specs on the ubolts as im not sure if mustang is that low . anyhow thanks for all you do Dan
Thanks for the feedback! That’s good to know on the bolt torque.
Next video on how you routed your exhaust around the panhard bar?
I didn't do it, the muffler shop did. All they really did was mimic the exhaust tubes that I cut out, but with a little more bending in certain spots for everything to clear. :)
Does that aftermarket shock/axle mount plate block the drum shoe adjustment access area?
No because the drum backing plate isn’t that close to the leafs. 🙂
Did you bottom out into your quarter panel?? Half inch blocks look great was wondering if you'd have to disconnect the panhard set up to get in there
I don't know what component was "bottoming out", whether it was the tire or the bump stop piece above the third member, I just know that it was too low.
Yes, I did loosen the Panhard Bar to get this all swapped out, but it was easy to get it all set back up.
I decided to do the same thing, I had the Scott drake 1” blocks installed but it was too low, I purchased the Calvert 1/2” like in your video.
I noticed they were about an 1” long we than the Scott Drake and the center pin was shorter which gave it a lot of movement,.
Have you had any kind of issues from the differences between the 2 brands? Thanks
I had to measure the location of the blocks and the axle to make sure it’s in the right spot because of the shortened pin like you mentioned. 🙂
do you have axle wrap and wheel hop with these springs?
No, but I also don’t drop the clutch at every light either. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a little flex in the leafs, but I have special spring plates for my Panhard bar, so it’s difficult to install something like Caltracs to minimize any flexing that occurs.
Have those 4.5 leaf springs settled any since you installed them? I’m debating if I want to use the half inch blocks.
I've got about 10 months on these leafs, and they've settled about a 1/2" during that time. These 1/2" blocks I recently installed put my rear height back where it was when I installed the 1" lowering blocks about 10 months ago. Mideye Leaf Springs and 1/2" blocks work great for my setup. Reverse-eye Leaf Springs might be too much, and I like the flexibility of using different thickness lowering blocks to dial in the exact height I want. :)
I think it looks better with the half inch blocks it has just a hint of rake.
Thanks, I agree!
I didn't use blocks , wanted a rake,
@@pksvkpk4801 Yeah, everybody want's there car a certain way, nothing wrong with that. :)
Did you do the Shelby drop on this one?
Yes, but video was a while back. :)
Andy do you have a part number or length of those u bolts?
Tuff Country units from Summit Racing. They're 1/2" dia, 7" long, comes with washers and nuts, zinc plated, and part number 47850. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel thank you for the quick response
Andy, I know everybody wants to go lower in the back, I want to go up 1 1/2 to 2inches. Can I add a 2 inch block in the reverse direction to raise the back. If so can you provide a good vendor for blocks?
I don't know of companies selling blocks to raise the rear on these cars. One option is to get some air shocks, it was popular in the 70s and 80s.
Air shocks are already on, more problems than you might think. Thanks for the reply
what size wheels and tires?
American Racing Torq Thrust II wheels (part number VN2156765). Falken Azenis RT615K+ tires, sized 225/50/16
And next is Electric power steering.............. 🙂
Does it count if the "nut" behind the wheel has an electric personality?
@@AndyKruseChannel that does help with my patience until you get there. lol
