    Just finished cleaning and detailing the engine bay on my new to me 2008 Audi TT and saw this now! I follow a similar process but use Surfex HD with a pump foamer let it sit then agitate with a brush, rinse with a water can covering the alternator with a plastic bag and repeat. It's a sunny day so it dried out quickly. Sonax BSD on painted surfaces, AG Vinyl and Rubber care on all plastics and rubber seal. Job done and it looks stunning. A clean engine bay for me is just as important as the exterior. I love taking my cars to be serviced and see the lads starring at the engine bay and saying how nice it is for them to work on a car that's super clean. 😁

    Completely agree with your methodology Paul. I steer clear of cleaning engine bays as I feel there's risk involved. However, when I do work on an engine bay; I steer clear of using a pressure washer. I’d rather use trigger sprayers and work a section at a time. Much safer in my opinion.

    I tip I picked up from Jim White is spray your dressing on and wipe as much off as possible, then use your blower to push the dressing into the awkward areas you can’t reach.

    Great to know about that product. When I have cleaned it I only used soapy water with the brushes or Bilt Hamber Surfex HD, then at the parts with the exposed metal a small metal brush. Afterwards coating with 303 Protectant or CarPro Perl or Lithium Trim.
    Hope your wife doesn't find you that often so you can make more awesome videos.😉😄

    Nice technique AND results! Distilled h2o is excellent for any water needed application. As for sausage fingers and towl drying try a blower. I happen to use a battery powered leaf blower for both under the bonnet as well as door jams, wheels, grilles, door jams and lighting seams. Always satisfying to lift the hood and see some sparkle.
    Turtle Wax "improved" Seal & Shine on all things paints and metal (shock towers, inner fenders, under bonnet, hinges and all nooks and crannies- as well as plastics and rubber) is a terrific shine and protectant and def aids in future clean-up and maintenance!

    I like your idea of using a steam cleaner, but I don't have one. I use ONR for less dirty engines. For dirtier engines, I use Super Clean Degreaser, very reasonably priced & has multiple uses. I agree, never use power washer on engines. Sometimes I snow foamer with Purple Power Vehicle & Boat Wash & Super Clean mixture, which can be uswed as a striper wash for the entire car. I dry engines with leaf blower & or forced air. The use CarPro PERL, as you do...Thanks for your incredible knowledge!

Cleaned my engine bay a few times using a pressure washer but I'm going to try a steamer and your technique next time after watching this, I find when using pressure washer that your concerned about keeping the lance at a safe distance to avoid drenching the electric's and air filter etc that they'll be odd spots that have been missed

    Engine heat soak from general usage is the primary reason for damage to the wire harness. I hate to think what the reason effects of steam will be after a few cleans. I think the real answer is to set something to mist to get it wet and mist to get it off. Simples

  • @johnwagner4559
    @johnwagner4559 Před 3 lety +1

    Nice job but unless u use a pressure washer or a hose, you'll never get all that dirt rinsed off. The steamer just blows it around where you can't wipe it off and then it just sits there. Using a hose is fine if you wrap up the electric bits.

    An engine bay just needs a wipe with a damp microfiber, anything more and the risk of damage is increased ten fold, i like your videos though paul the format is good but the risk on modern cars is waaaaaaaay to costly to copy anything you or anyone else for that matter. I get a good enough clean using a damp microfiber and surfex HD. Update: if you use Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber care that can go on with a damp bay and it can be left to dry
