    My husband is building a stand alone hay feeder to put next to the litter pans. My dude just loves digging and scratching it aaaaaaalll around. Hoping it helps out a little at least. And yeah, he does really like the orchard hay. I have a bag of Timothy just laying around and he won't mess with it, but I have to put the box of orchard somewhere else or he won't leave it alone.

    Great tips Amy. Yes, rabbits are such finicky eaters. And it becomes expensive and inconvenient. Your tips are always useful and appreciated. This video being no exception. Thanks for the Post. Happy Thanksgiving !!

    I agree to get the hay off the bottom of the litter box. My bun uses a wooden hay feeder box and I put a small layer of hay in the litter box and then my bun accesses all the rest of her hay from the feeder box. The only problem is if it gets too low inside the box then she will fit through the feed holes and try to eat what’s left in the box. So it’s important to keep the box at least 50% full.

    I was told by the pet store that they only need a bundle the size of their body twice a day. I find this helps with not wasting.

      @kimkenickie Před rokem +3

      Maybe I misunderstand you but if you mean only giving that amount of hay a day it’s way too little. Bunnies should have unlimited access to hay all hours of the day.

    u can put hay in a cotton bag and make hole. That u can set by hanging in the litterbox. i think this is the best idea.

    I recycle the hay from the feeder to the litter box then after that it goes in a compost pile for my garden.

    One thing I've noticed with the Timothy hay I use, if hay is peed on the urine smells extremely bad. Hay doesn't really stop the urine smells haha

    Thanks so much for this video! I’m going to give hay feeders a go. My advice is to get or make a snuffle mat. It’s help me contain the mess considerably. And it allows bunnies to forage so it’s good mental stimulation for them.

    • @sodiumcyanidee
      @sodiumcyanidee Před 2 lety +4

      You need to make sure they eat a healthy amount of hay, 80% of their diet. Otherwise your rabbit will get GI stasis. They should not be eating dog biscuits...

    Woooow 0:13 that was awesome. I've taught my bun (her name of course), how to come when called, to stand and to spin.
    0:54 I think I need those now😂❤
    2:05 I think that's just how they are. 🤷‍♀️😅😪 My bun likes to sort through her hay 😢
    4:10 same here. I was told that alfalfa tastes the best and that orchid is the next best. Timothy hay is likely the healthiest for long term use but not as sweet. I have a sensitive nose and can tell the diff between all 3.
    5:54 that's one of the main things I had to teach myself to be eh happy about. Yes I'd like my bun to eat all her hay but she's never going to lol. Whatever's in the litterbox is fine.
    7:22 thank you ❤😊. My bun is a dwarf and she's now over 2 yrs old. Sso I've got most things figured out but I could always use more tips and tricks.

    Interesting tips, I am just wondering why don’t you rather have two litter boxes, like one for each rabbit? I use similar litter box as you (basically a cat toilet) but use the upper part as well rather than having it removed….much less hay gets on the floor than what I see in your video. It will save you a lot of trouble and time cleaning. Whatever the rabbits pick out won’t get on the floor but will just directly add as bedding anyway. So you will save yourself the step on picking the hay from the floor and putting it back in the litter box. I use a stretchable plastic bag and a quarter of xl size pet diaper, if you change every day there is much much less waste of hay because the clean litter box will give the rabbit to eat almost all of the hay, there are usually a few pieces only. We can go for a very long time with 5kg of hay this way.

    do your rabbits pee when they are eating hay not in or next to a litter box? we set up a separate hay container in another corner of the room once and one of the rabbits peed right next to it.

  • @inachristine

    I’ve been thinking of getting a cat sifting litter box so I could put wood pellets in the bottom box than the sifter on top with the hay. I know that eating the pellets would be harmful I just don’t know if the smell of wood pellets would still be risky to bunnies?

    Great video! I am fostering a mama bunny who came with four babies. I’ve been filling her bowl up all the way because I’m addition to being ravenous- the babies are starting to eat her food. The hay is very mess too. Is this okay to fill the bowl up all the way in this situation?

    Question... why is my bunny so full of anxiety the last 3 days? She keeps running around her area, won't let me pet her, wants to nibble my feet & fingers. I don't know how to comfort her. We had company that sat in her fenced area with her for a small amount of time & now she's pooping outside the litter box constantly claiming her territory. How can I help her?

    • @anneliekonink
      @anneliekonink Před 2 lety

      Did your company have pets? My rabbits hate dog and cat smell, getting rid of the clothes I were with them (dogs or cats) helps for me.
      (Female rabbits can also struggle with hormones, are they neutered?)

      Where would you get that? How do you keep it clean?

    • @shongueesha7875
      @shongueesha7875 Před 2 lety

      @@anneliekonink You should be able to find it at Pet stores or maybe check online stores. I have news paper in the bottom, then wood pills, then some other stuff I don't know the english word for and then Hay. It's easy to empty with the news paper in the bottom. I empty/clean it once every 5 days in my bathroom using vinegar and soap. It's very easy! ^_^ (the only thing is you need a big garbage bag, a regular sized one wont do)
      You can clean it more often, just make sure to put new hay once a day on their poop/pee so they dont stand on it. In the beginning it was once every 3 days but I found that was too often because the bottom were never dirty.

    You might as well let your dog do the same and let it always shit on the carpet. Rabbits are terrible
