  • www.playbill.com/video Playbill caught up with Broadway's Aaron Lazar and Kelli O'Hara as they joined New York Pops music director and conductor Steven Reineke in rehearsal for "Some Enchanted Evening: The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein." The Oct. 12, 2012 concert at Carnegie Hall featured tunes spanning the career of the famed Broadway and film songwriting duo and will kick off the Pops' 30th anniversary season. Taking advantage of the expansive and lush orchestra, Reineke reaches back for the original orchestrations from both Broadway and film productions. Here, O'Hara and Lazar perform "People Will Say We're In Love" from "Oklahoma!"

OMG, the DREAM TEAM! How I would have loved to have seen them paired up as Clara and Fabrizio in The Light in the Piazza

Kelli O’Hara and Audra McDonald are SUPREME in representing “legit” Sopranos on Broadway. There certainly are other pleasant-voiced Sopranos, but I’m convinced that Kelli and Audra could sing anything from Mozart, Handel and Rossini to Sondheim, Lennon & McCartney and Weill. They’re both superb technicians with extraordinary interpretive gifts.

Kelli sigh. She is amazing. I hate it when her voice is wasted on stuff like "Chicago" -- but in Far From Heaven, Bridges of Madison Country that actually have great books, as well as songs - her voice is used so fully and beautifully

Kelli sang many of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals The King and I,South Pacific ,Carousel etc.She is one of the few singers now that can sing their musicals as Laura Osnes,Laura Benanti, Victoria Clark,Rebecca Luker,Sierra Bogges,Jessie Muller and few more who are legit sopranos,The same with the men Hugh Jackman, Aaron Lazar,Steve Pasquale,,Paulo Szott,Nathan Lane, Will Chase,Patrick Willson and few more. When these songs are sung by belters or popular singers like Carrie Underwood they failed.. They are following the great sopranos that came before them Joan Roberts,Jan Clayton,,Jean Darling ;Barbara Cook, Shirley Jones,Florence Henderson, and Julie Andrews to name a few all great Rodgers and Hammerstein performers. But there is a difference among the men only Szott and Gunn are baritones like Alfred Drake,Howard Keel,Gordon Mac Rae ,and those who performed their musicals. The singers now haver lighter voices like John Raitt the first Billy or tenors like Bill Hayes and William Tabbert..Jackman , Pasquale and Chase are light baritones like Raitt and the others are tenors like Willson and Julian Ovendem to name a few..

Don't forget Audra MacDonald, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Linda Eder, Marin Mazzie to your excellent. The men are weaker group -- too much vibrato. But Pasquale, Billy Porter, Stokes Mitchell, and a few others really nail it.

Kelli, you can't sing the end like that and then not go up on the last note. It's mean.

That's actually how the song is written. The woman doesn't go up on the last note.

Actually that's not how the song is written. As the song is written, Curly sings the end by himself. This is how the reprise in the second act is written, which is not what they were singing, they were singing the original, but they interpolated the end of that song onto this one to make it more exciting for a concert. What I was saying is that Kelli O'Hara's voice is so amazing and she sounds so brilliant that I want her to opt up to the high D because it would sound absolutely phenomenal and the fact that she doesn't do it makes me sad!
