  • From our archives a very special guest, John Dean. For those of you who lived through Watergate, his name is synonymous with the political intrigue of the 1970’s. Dean served as White House Counsel for President Richard Nixon from July 1970 until April 1973. In that position, he became deeply involved in events leading up to the Watergate burglaries and the subsequent scandal and cover-up. Referred to as the "master manipulator of the cover-up" by the FBI, Dean’s testimony before the House was watched by some 80 million Americans. Granted immunity, Dean laid out in stunning detail and intricacy how the President not only knew about but orchestrated the break-in and burglary of the DNC. He ultimately was sentenced to one year in Federal Prison, but emerged from the experience as a changed and soulful individual. Dean renounced his former politics and started a second life as an author and speaker. He’s penned five books about Watergate and 10 books in total; including his most recent tome, Authoritarian Nightmare: Trump and his Followers. Dean is now the last man standing from that era, He is the last connection between this nation’s authoritarian past and present.

@@nicnic1981- no age limit, but need term limits as We The People don't and can't vote them out. I say 12 year term limit. We need to be able to get the older, experienced, wise justices in. This shouldn't be a lifetime position that young, inexperienced person is appointed to. We need the 70 year olds appointed to the position as with age comes experience and wisdom and there's no substitute for experience. We also need to reverse Citizens United to make sure they aren't bought n paid for n owned. We need to make bribery illegal again or all sense of right n wrong is lost. (John Dean here is a perfect example of who we need as a SCOTUS). Also, There are 13 districts now because of the larger population in the country. These are SCOTUS districts, not courts and the justices don't change them out every 2 years. You are referring to the Federal justices, not SCOTUS that have all that. Currently, since we have 9 SCOTUS, but 13 districts, Roberts is in charge of 3 districts, Alito has 2, Kavanaugh has 2, all others each have 1. So this isn't even disributed evenly. We need to add 4 more SCOTUS so each SCOTUS has only one district. As soon as Biden is re-elected, and we win wth majority in the House and keep the Senate, then Biden can expand SCOTUS. Then we can reverse Citizens United and make bribery illegal again.

All these arguments about Presidents being immune from prosecution are total BS. In our countries history no President has ever faced charges for legitimate actions he took as President. The only Presidents who ever faced prosecution for their actions in office were the 2 criminal Presidents Richard Nixon and now Diaper Donald Trump. Things are as they should be. If you commit crimes in office you should face impeachment and trial in court. If found guilty in court you should face the penalty for your crimes. No President is being prevented from doing his job because he's afraid of unfairly being prosecuted after he leaves office. The only President afraid of prosecution for his actions in and out of office is Diaper Donald who should be crapping himself because NO ONE is above the law in the USA!

With Executive Privilege, there is an expectation of Executive Responsibility. Making a decision to target a known terrorist leader or compound, is a legal use of presidential power, and if civilians are collateral damage in the strike, he/she should not be able to be charged with murder. But if the president used his/her power to cause the death of anyone, without just cause, that IS murder & he/she should be held accountable.

What shows you these Whitehouse aides and congressmen all knew they were provoking a criminal act is that none of them personally addressed the crowd once they stepped on the Capitol lawns. People whose whole life is all about making speeches to the public.
Bannon and Jones were also both very careful to not go into the Capitol, indeed to stay at a distance and know when to literally put the megaphone down.

Thanks for the replay with John Dean. I saw the Watergate hearing on TV when I was a kid. To me, John Dean was the man with the pretty blond lady sitting behind him. I didn't understand a lot of it but I remember a question from one of the Senators, "What is the significance of the asterisks beside some of the names on this document?" John's reply (paraphrased), "They are all lawyers. I wondered how so many lawyers could have created this criminal mess. They are the people who should have known better." "They are the people who should have known better" still rings in my ears.

Michael Cohan is NOT a hero. The man is a criminal who got caught and is just now trying to save his sorry ass. He said just before Christmas that he wishes he could go back in time and run from the subpoena he got to testify and that if Donnie wins again he’ll flee the country. Words of a coward, not a hero. Even if 45 became 47, which he won’t, there’s no way he could pull off his “Shitler” fantasy. He’d need a huge nationwide size army of neo nazis and a brain which he has neither.
