    I don’t really get people’s problem with this? Yes we think a rel 6 or 8 pack would have done the same if not better. But also we don’t know? People are just upset at the price when it’s part of a lineup that has $300k speakers in it. I can’t say if it’s worth it or not, and neither can you. Just let people enjoy there stuff if they can afford it. Great video

    Great video, some reviewers would stubbornly argue that a pair of 6.5 inch woofers in a bookshelf speaker is all you need! Nothing outside of Excellent, well set up subwoofers will get what you are describing. It becomes obvious who has, and who hasn't experienced Excellent subwoofers when I here people say "you don't need a subwoofer"!

    I really love hearing you talk about music because you are so enthusiastic. And I like the longer videos, as music and stereo reproduction is my passion. Keep up the great work !!! My system plays at least flat or more from 11 Hz to 40,000 Hz. The extended range is one of the best things that takes a system closer to recreating the "being there experience" instead of listening to a playback system. Congratulations!!!

      Each acoustic wave, if met by a reflected wave, will either be strengthened or extinguished, depending on the phase in which they meet, and this depends on its length, i.e. for e.g. 50 Hz it will be 344/50 = 6.8 m (the entire period ). So they will interact freely with each other. I have a 42 cm (18 inch) bass speaker and it creates a wave that goes towards you and penetrates you precisely because the speaker is directed towards me. If you have an amplifier that has several hundred watts and it properly controls the speakers, the direction is physically felt by your body. It's not about whether you determine by hearing how it reaches you, but about the physical interference of the room. This is simply the physics of wave interference

    I recently had the chance to listen to the ESD Acoustics SuperDragon system, which included an impressive and high-quality subwoofer setup, made up of six ESD-subwoofers per channel.
    This was my first experience with such powerful and controlled bass playback, and I felt truly engaged with the music for the first time. The "air" you mentioned was there, matching your experience with the subsonics. I was blown away by the impact of the subwoofers on the already high-end hi-fi setup.

    Thanks Mark for these 2 videos. Love your enthusiasm for music; valuing it over whether it's recorded digitally or in the analogue domain. Also you obviously have a great classical collection; how do you catalog it so that you can easily store and retrieve a particular version of the same piece? By artist; by composer, by piece, by etc...Might I suggest that you and/or Michael Johnson create a video talking about your cataloging technique.

    I have 2 REL S/510 for my much more humble sound system (Hegel 590, Dynaudio Confidence 30, Aqua LaScala DAC, Innuos Zenith Mk III) and once they are placed and tuned correctly, they sound just wonderful. The whole room is pressurized and it feels like the entire frequency range is enhanced. They can also be stacked 3 on each side (a little too extreme for me, but so are the Wilson's Subsonics). At times, I prefer a more subdued bass and I just bring the subwoofers' volume down a notch but when I listen to "bass heavy" music, they are fast, tight and kick ass. Audioexcellence sell JL Audio which have the advantage of easily adding the crossover CR-1.

    In a room, if the speakers are not placed at the right angle, a standing wave will be created, which will mute some frequencies. It is best to direct the sound wave at a specific angle to extend its meeting with the reflected wave. You can use something that will direct it sideways in its path

      @@MikeFromAudioExcellence if it's 1/2" drywall the self damping properties will prevent excessive ringing. If it's drywall on typical wood studs with any insulation behind it, it will quite literally work as a bass trap. Not as efficient as a purpose made diaphragmatic bass trap but still a bass trap. You will typically get as much as 30% bass absorption from typical interior drywall room barriers. It won't lead to standing waves. It will reduce the effect of any standing wave. That's room acoustics 101. And the only energy it will "lose" is reflected energy. And that reflected energy will muddy and distort the bass. If the bass is inadequate in a room with well controlled bass reflections the problem is the speakers/subwoofer not the room.

    • @MikeFromAudioExcellence
      @MikeFromAudioExcellence Před 26 dny

      @@scottwheeler2679 Acoustic 201 resonating materials affect how sound waves are reflected and absorbed. ie a resonating wall can absorb specific frequencies that match its resonant frequency, reducing reflections at those frequencies which contribute to the formation of standing waves and specific frequencies at which sound waves resonate within the room (modes). Resonating materials can either exacerbate or mitigate these modes. For example, a thin wall or window might vibrate in response to low-frequency sound wavess, interacting with the room's acoustics by adding or absorbing energy at certain frequencies

    • @scottwheeler2679
      @scottwheeler2679 Před 26 dny

      @@MikeFromAudioExcellence all materials resonate. With room acoustics the issue is absorption, reflection and self damping properties of the room boundaries. As I have already stated, drywall is highly self damping and even more so if there is fiberglass insulation behind it. It's not going to resonate much. OTOH the reflections in the bass region will resonate. So thin drywall wall, particularly attached to wood studs with insulation are great for reducing bass reverb and have no drawbacks in the bass region. If you are not getting enough bass the problem is either the speaker/subwoofer or you are not getting enough bass absorption from the thin walls. The real issue with thin walls is the transference of outside noise into the listening room. Not loss of bass.
