The bagpipes and the violin are both HAUNTINGLY beautiful, a trait few other instruments can claim. I understand completely.
Have you ever heard Irish bagpipes? Sometimes they sound just like a violin. It's haunting.
Also flute.
As a double bass player I very much disagree with your verdict on violins
@@jenniferkorf4767 Oh?
At my friends funeral at the end the bagpipe player came out. Sad , but he played the best song ever for a departing friend.
My sister can play anything with a reed, except bagpipes. She could play it. We are Welsh, not Scottish, but I'd drink a scottsnan under the table with Russian Vodka or Canadian Whiskey
I never heard of bagpipe competitions...that's not a sport, it's like judging art. Mrs. Mosart, please collaborate with Belle Sisoski...I want to dance to bagpipes and the only instrument I know might be the "Sitar". It's got strings. How many? I bet it's less than 10
Why would a bagpipe player announce homosexuality at a funeral?
You know it’s always fun to hear a superheroine’s origin story.
🏴🏴🏴 from sunny Scotland we approve your choice of favourite instrument 😂 the power of the sound that comes from the massed pipes and drums parades over here is something that needs to be witnessed. Great work glad to see our Scottish traditions over the world
Yes Marc, even in my country. 👍🏴
I once worked for a Scottish company, which afforded me more than one chance to hear a pipe and drum corps play, up close and personal - often indoors! The wall of sound is exhilarating - nothing quite like it!
I also love a lone piper. There's no instrument like it for melancholy or mournful or laments. The piper at the Queen's funeral was spine-tingling as he walked away into the castle.
I am not as driven as you. I played the trumpet till I got old enough to join the local fire department(15 years old). There I was driven. Rose to the rank of Chief. Also Paramedic and Emergency Diver. Expanded to become a Registered Nurse. I was playing the Bugle to play TAPS. I wanted to learn the pipes but never had good use of all the fingers, just three. I came down with nonalcoholic liver disease looking for a donor. I have no wind to play the Bugle and am to exhausted to continue teaching EMS. I Do love the pipes and you are fantastic! Keep playing I do enjoy your work.
Great to see you are developing confidence with longer videos. I really enjoyed this one as we tend to take people at face value and this added depth to our understanding of you as a person 🙂
Your story is amazing and inspiring! I wish you all the best in your endeavors.
Why Bagpipes, why not.
This is the way
Aye Laddie. Why not.
Ok I just discovered you few minutes ago (it is also my 1st message on CZcams, yeah I don’t like social bullshit media , full of drama and pure waste of time to me and as I am also old fashioned, full stop) I loved this short video of your: “Valhalla calling me” brava, excellent, thank you for this one! (Voilà you will find my next comment in perhaps 15 years time on CZcams) see you then!
♥️
Why not? The most disgusting sound in the world. Fn incels
Thank you. The Pipes are the ONLY instrument that, without fail, put me in a hyper emotional state. Every time I ear them I get "mushy" on the inside. You're helping with that. A new way of listening to them I guess. You're my piping therapist of sorts. Keep up the GREAT work. 🙂
Please do a how to learn on bagpipes you're one of the most interesting and intelligent CZcamsrs I've seen in a long time and your passion for an instrument that is part of my heritage also and an instrument that I love is so awesome. And I can't wait to share videos that you've made with my seven-year-old. And it's so cool that you're talkin about you may have a disability or something but yet you overcame it and used it to your advantage you rock Ally
That's so kind! I definitely look forward to making more content!
Join a local pipe band they will give you lessons.
As a fellow music kid (well, not a kid any more LOL), I love the story of your journey and how you connected with your passion for your instruments and creativity. I am a Baritone Horn player and while I left the music world behind as a professional and now only do so as an amateur I love the energy of creativity you bring to your work. Thank you for what you do and please don't ever stop sharing your story. There are millions of kids who need hear the artistry of music made through the effort and focus of hard work and how it became a part of your story.
Bydand forever ! The pipes found you love. I only worry they won't be able to keep up with your amazing talent and spirit. You are a true ambassador of music. Thank you for being so transparent. Also, to your Dad, I love that your heritage carries well on yer shoulders lad. Pride, a strong heart and good tune. Hard to come by these days so it's right nice to see. Your family bashes must be rompin', best of luck dear Ally, oh and screw the hater crowd.....do whatever lifts yer kilt!
Bagpipes are so cool. As someone hyperfixated in ancient history, I learned that the Bagpipes are originally from ancient Egypt. They have thousands of years of history and have been basically the same since their creation. Merchants took them to Europe, and the Romans spread them to Scotland.
As someone with hEDS, I feel your pain. I also have weak lungs due to EDS, so all reed and brass instruments were off the table. I got to take piano lessons, so for a 9 year old, having a new substitute teacher each time really killed piano for me. Especially since most of them knew nothing about piano.
I do regret not sticking with it and trying other string instruments such as harp and any of the chinese string instruments. My hypermobility isn't as bad as yours, but it's there.
There's speculations on whether or not they were from Egypt, Turkey, or Southern Europe, but they have definitely not been the same since their creation. There are numerous different variations of Bagpipes that are not the same. The Scottish Great Highland pipe sounds nothing like Egyptian and Middle Eastern pipes, which is a good example. It also looks very different just like most of variations found across the world.
So even though they were influenced by other people, the Scots perfected it by inventing their own version, which makes it completely unique to them of course.
I want to let you know how much I enjoy your music. I have been a percussionist with my local Pipe Band for over 40 years and love listening your music. I started my musical journey in elementary school on the trumpet and played brass instruments through college. After college I missed being part of a band and started going to watch/listen to a local Pipe Band practice. They decided I was showing up more often than some of their members and suggested I play a Tenor drum. I've been playing drums with them ever since. Tenor, Side, and Bass ever since.
Awesome!
Greetings from Mt. Hood, Oregon. Thank you for the background video. I was curious. You do an amazing job on the pipes. I love watching your videos. Keep up the great work. Congratulations on all the competition medals. ☺️. My favorite piece is Scotland the Brave. ☺️☺️
I do love your videos and I appreciate your choice not only for the bagpipes but also to stay with your other instruments. I am managing a museum of musical instruments and within our collection of more than 3000 Instruments, we also got a small set of historic bagpipes from different countries. If you ever happen to be in germany, it would be my honor to welcome you as our guest.
Freedom ' Braveheart' have you seen the Movie starring Mel Gibson, I'm playing it now on CZcams, why don't play it too in honour of William Wallace
Where exactly and what is the name of the museum?
@@LJL2 The name of the museum is Musikinstrumenten-Museum Markneukirchen and is located in Saxony, right at the border region of Saxony, Bavaria and Czeck Republic.
In the first half of the 20th century, the city of Markneukirchen used to be the worlds "powerhouse" of the musical instruments industry. Producing every possible kind of instruments, apart from organs and delivering worldwide especially in europe and the US. For example 40% off ALL brass instruments in the world where produced here in these days or 70% of bows for string instruments. Up to today, there are existing still more than 100 workshops and factories for musical instruments.
@@Arsamenes1 sounds like something I need to visit next time I’m in Germany!
I love bagpipes. So glad that you chose to play them. I love your music and piping. Love the dogs too.
Holy cow you're a walking marching band! Thanks for the interesting backstory, you've been busy!👏
Bless you lassie. You are gifted🥰Thank you for sharing your music with us.
I think bagpipes make perfect sense personally. When I was a little boy in the 90s it was the only instrument that could make me feel such strong emotions. They could make me cry out of nowhere, I could be happy but the beautiful sound of the bagpipes can always bring tears to my eyes.
This is how you know you’ve made it, fake pages pretending to be you lol
That has to be one of the most perfect parts on anyone’s hair I have seen!
Ally, you are an amazing person and don't you ever forget that. Your channel is amazing. You are a true American treasure.
A great story of your journey into the bagpipes Ally. I guess this brilliantly illustrates that knock backs in health or what not can have a silver lining. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing. You are an inspiration to us all.
Thank you for sharing this! Your passion for your art is obvious in all you share with us. ❤️ Makes me happy 😊
You are truly... such an amazing...gifted..beautiful young lady!!!
Lovely explanation of the why. You are a very talented Lady. 👏 bravo 👏. I do love what you have done on the pipes and look forward to what you have in store next as you expand your musical interests.
Thank you for the link on FB. I think you are super talented. I have always love the sound of bagpipes. Glad to be following you.
This was a really interesting, nice to hear about your background and how music played such a big part of your life, and love your mum story, so sweet... The pipes are such an important part of Scotland, please thank you for sharing your talent.
Thank you Ms Ally..it’s nice to get to know you a little bit..like other comments here I feel pride in you for your accomplishments and admire your scrappiness..and love what your doing with bagpipes…that you really don’t see elsewhere …rock on Girl ❤
Glad to find out you're a fellow Clan Donnachaidh member. I have just recently found your videos and have added you to my list of favorite pipers (along with the Snake Charmer, Phantom Piper and Dame of Drones- what a quartet of pipers). Watched your interview with USA Kilts a few weeks back, that whole interview was very interesting. Keep up the great work, really enjoy your special talent.
Ally you are truly a beautiful and talented young woman! I for one am so happy you discovered the bag pipes ! Absolutely beautiful music!!!💕💕💕
Thanks for putting a smile on my face! You have outstanding showmanship! Keep up the great videos!
bagpipes and hurdy gurdy are the best medieval instruments ever
Thank you so much for letting us into your life (as it were) I love watching you perform with the pipes. It seems that you have found the best musical instrument for your personality. You are so incredibly talented. (And easy on the eyes ❤)
I was gifted bagpipes years ago from a friend (who has since passed away). She found the pipes in her mother's closet, and has no clue where they came from (as the bag has the Stuart tartan I suspect her mother played in the Springfield (Missouri) High School Kilties all girl pipe and drum corps (now Central High). Anyway I have yet to learn to play as life has gotten in the way, but my daughter (8) has watched your videos and has interest, so perhaps we'll learn together. I too played clarinet growing up, I even had my grandfather's metal clarinet restored. I really don't play much anymore though (again life), but my daughter has said she wants to learn, so we'll be getting into that next year at school. I'm very proud of my Scottish heritage (many many clans through my paternal grandmother's side), and I wear my kilt any chance I get. Cheers!
That first finger bend got me lol. Very talented
I for one am glad you did. Thanks for sharing your passion with us!
Thank you for showing the dogs. I love dogs and they love me.
The backstory of awesomeness. Thank you for sharing not only this but everything else with us "out here".
💚💚 Ally 💚💚
Your flair/style and unconventional technique is what makes you unique and why we dig what you’re doing.
I am so glad your journey brought you to the bagpipes. one of the most inspirational instruments!!
Ms Alli…you are a gorgeous young lady! Keep up all
The great vids! I too have a woodwind background. Flute and alto saxophone (it’s what was available) I’m learning the pipes now (many years later!). You are making the pipes mainstream once again! Thank you!
I love your videos. My family is Ulster-Scots. I love the bag pipes too. My favorite besides you is Scots Guards
I feel you on that Duncan part. I'm also one of those. The family comes from Pitlochry, so your ancestors might be similar to mine.
It's wild to me someone not having crossed paths with the pipes until they were 12. My small town had them playing all the time, every Santa Claus Parade both in town and in Toronto had multiple pipe bands.
They've just always been a soundscape in my world. The moment the weather was warm, you could hear them drifting over the town every weekend if your window was open.
Hey! Fellow EDH afflicted guy here. Just wanted to thank you for openly talking about it! Huge fan of your works !
Lots of respect from Canada! :)
I just farted, and i've no regrets. So there's that! You bloody Englishmen! Now that we put all that out of the way, this woman is super talented! Like really crazy talanted! I can't get enough, and I applaud. It's like there's nothing she wont try! Fearless! She blows everything away and that's exactly how you learn! I feel like she looks at a song and just says, challenge accepted. I actually started with the trumpet myself, then piano(still trying) It didn't work out, ultimately. I settled with guitar/vocals and the rest is history. Nothing but respect for pipers! She's one of the wee few good one's. Respect. Dont quit. I found this by accident and it's one of the best accidents. Keep rocking!
Fantastic piper and lovely lady. All the best from Scotland xx .
Hats off to you. I received a practice chanter in my 30’s but never got the hang of the finger movements. Still love hearing the bagpipe, so thanks for this channel.
This was a gerat video! It was fun getting to know your background a little more :)
I never loved bagpipes until you. You truly have a gift. Not downplaying hard work. I just never realized they could sound so melodic and beautiful. Thank you for that. May God continue to Bless you
Bagpipes are a magical instrument, and you showcasing them so brilliantly is fantastic…. 🎶
The clarinet was the first instrument I played strangely I didn't go to the sax I am now learning the pipes
Thank you for sharing your story. I loive watching and listening to you. Be safe and have fun!!!
Thank you so much for putting out this video. I was wondering why you pick the bagpipes and this answered all my questions. Love listening to your music you are amazing. Love how you put a modern-twist on the bagpipes it sounds incredible. If you ever come back to Boston me and my wife would love to go listen to you play.
Thanks for a great introspective into your choice to play bagpipes Ally. I've played guitar for 52 years and currently am an independently produced instrumental surf artist. However this month, February 2023, I decided it was time to fulfill a long time dream of learning to play bagpipes. So, new McCallum Long poly practice chanter in hand, I started working through the green book. I do have a tutor who plays with a local pipe and drum band. It was fresh to hear your story! And seeing you are going on tour I hope to catch your show one day! Ann Arbor and Chicago are about equidistant from where I live in Michigan Upper Peninsula. But still a long travel. But I'm sure you'll tour again and so I'll keep my eyes peeled for when that happens. Until then keep up the awesome piping skills! You rock!
I'm from near Inverness myself, grew up around bagpipes and have always wanted to learn how to play them
I’ve loved the pipes since I was a kid. Didn’t do much about it until I heard the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards recording of Amazing Grace. Bought their cd and others. Skip some years and I got a dna test and lo! I’m Scots and Irish descent! There’s some English, French and Danish in there also, but I claim the Scots/Irish most and love the pipes all the more! Play on, darling, play on, you with the beautiful eyes!
Dang girl! Thats a lot of medals and ribbons! Quite accomplished woman! Im impressed! Beautiful too!
Hi Ally!! Loved your video on why the bagpipes. I’ve started late in life and only been playing a few years. My teacher moved and kinda left me on my own but I still love to play. Enjoy your videos they keep me going and there’s always something to learn. Thanks👍
Thank for sharing your stroy. I played flute starting in 5th grade all through high school and continued tp [;au for self entertainment until about 6 years ago when I moved away from home. As you can imagine its hard to play insturuments in an apartment setting. I taught myself how to play the violin, just for fun. I have always had a love of Celtic music and bagpipes and would love to one day learn how to play, I do have a litle Irish and Scotish herritage.
you play the bags because they are unique and so are you. you being you🙌💕
Alto and Baritone Sax lead here. Orchestra and Jazz. You soul is full of joy and I appreciate you very much!
Thanks for this video. I originally found you on TT, but then kind of drifted away from that platform. Love that you've got good content here.
Of all the stories of why someone learned the pipes this is the one that moved me. I'm now a subscriber instead of just a viewer.
I started to learn piano as well. Started teaching myself around 12 years old and kept going. Also played saxophone. Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone. Best at tenor.
Great video! As always, Thanks for your great content!
I enjoy the magic of your music.. never second guess your passions
It’s great you’re able to follow your passion! Who doesn’t love bagpipes!?! Thanks for this!
Thanks for sharing your story, Ally. My wife and daughter had similar musical upbringings like you. I learned the pipes after my wife & I started dating 33 years ago. Been a while since we've played, but can still pound out a tune. Love your vids 🥰. Cheers!
My stepdad is a Duncan! I never got into the bagpipes however. He plays them. 😊 Saxophone and guitar are my mains haha. I've always considered myself to be strongest with the clarinet. I wrote a few songs on the piano later on in life, but hated it as a kid. I learned how to fix instruments in college. I seem to spend more time finishing basements and building my little house out of trailers on a farm these days. I do play saxophone in church regularly. I wish I had a way to share my music with you... I can't seem to find the time to copyright my songs, so I don't put them up. Thank you for the music that you share. You are amazing!!!
If you do want me to look at any of your instruments other than the bagpipes and you're anywhere near Toronto, look me up. I'll tune you up free of charge. My stepdad might be able to help you out with your bagpipes 😉
From an early age the pipes have been an instrument I've loved. Ally you are so talented on them, will need to get your cds soon.
Also am hoping to hear you playing SGT MCKENZIE some day, it's a tune that talks to my soul. And Denver you are a lucky manto have such a talented woman.
I have always loved the sound of the bagpipes. I really enjoy watching you play.
awesome :) your performances are wonderful. I especially like your humor like the video with Buckets the drummer.
I absolutely love the sound of bagpipes and pipe and drum bands. When I was a young army cadet we marched in a drill competition to Adelaide University Pipe and drums who are an army reserve unit. The stir my blood every time I hear them. Sorry to hear about your EDS diagnosis, I hope your symptoms aren't too bad.
Wow!!! I never broke anything, but wow that's a lot of medals and competitions
Love your music!!! Keep em coming!
Well, that even made me cry a little bit. Hopefully I can learn the bagpipes without causing ''self-harm'' as CZcams calls it.
Thanks for sharing your experience and story. I really enjoy your playing of bagpipes. Thanks again… you are a star. 🇨🇦
Write me up ⬆️ I have something for you 🎁❤️❤️😘
In al honesty whats not to like on bagpipes....the music and vibe it can create is just sublime imo.
Keep it up!!
This kind of music is just so underpresented but just so good for the soul!👍
All I can say with all those medals is well done your parents and partner must be so proud of you and well done you never seen anyone rock those bagpipes like you do
So glad you took up the pipes ! Love listening to you both ! ( I'm Clan Wallace ) recently found you on CZcams !
I appreciate you taking the time to address the detractors who feel the need to pull you down a notch. You always seem to put them in their place. Maybe someday you should ask them why they watch and listen.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful story!
I've been in the music and theater scene for over 20 plus years seen many a bagpipe players and I would have to say you were in my top two. I can't pick between you two because the gentleman that played at my grandfather's funeral was also absolutely epic. Peace and good vibes.
That's awesome and what a great story about your past experience up to now loved it ❤❤
Great story of your life. As one that married into five children; I particularly enjoyed that you Dad adopted you. In our family, we only use the word “step” in cases where it is absolutely necessary such as medical history or legal proceedings.
I’m glad you’re starting to do CZcams videos rather than 20 second tic tac toe or insta-narcissist clips.
I still post shorts, as that's absolutely the best way to reach my following and use my various platforms. Considering Tik Tok is my primary platform with 1.3M followers. If you're going to call my content narcissistic for utilizing different mediums then perhaps you should watch someone else.
@@PiperAlly no Ma’am, I was making fun of tik tok by calling it tic tac toe; and instagram by calling it insta-narcissist. I was in no way calling you a narcissist. Just most people that post there are only there to inflate their own broken self esteem and stroke their ego. You post excellent music, and your adaptations of well know songs to bagpipes is amazing. What you don’t post is nudes, duck lips with your breast nearly popping out, etc…. Even though from some of your sarcastic clips, it seems some perverts have asked you to expose yourself rather than your musical talent.
I’m sorry that is the only thing you took (out of context) from my comment. You completely bypassed me bragging on your Dad; which I would think would have been enough for you to know I wasn’t insulting you. I should have been more specific rather than expecting someone that doesn’t know me to get my humor.
Fantastic. I've only seen you tonight. What a lot of stuff to look forward to. Love your take on the bagpipes as an instrument of rock and roll. Rightfully so. They rock. Watched a couple of your videos before watching this biographical piece. I hope you take it as a genuine compliment that I assumed you were a Scot.
Slàinte Mhath
I love your story, especially around all the instruments you have played. I played recorder, violin, clarinet, piano, viola, guitar and pipe band drums 🥁, as well as sing!
I say, “You don’t chose the bagpipes, the bagpipes choose you.” I started as a tenor drummer and couldn’t stay with it the pipes made me play them.
For some of us, I feel like bagpipes are in our blood. I feel Bagpipe songs in my soul when i hear them.
You feel about the bagpipes like I feel about the string base. It just speaks to my soul.
Thank you for puppy pictures! :) They are adorable! :)
This is fascinating. Thank you. Multi talented. 😊
i always loved the sound of bagpipes it is an awesome sounding instrument and you play so many diff types of music which is so great like rock ect , i would love to hear you play two awesome tunes especially on the bagpipes first one, the road to the iles, and dark island, thank you for playing the bagpipes you are very highly talented thanks again
Thank you for sharing this information with us. It is so awesome to hear. While I don't think I will ever try and learn to play myself, I think a video or videos on how to play would be interesting.
My army buddy is a piper, he plays in a drum and pipe corps. Thought it was funny when he told me the reason he picked the pipes when he was a kid. He wanted the instrument that would annoy his parents the most. Love the bagpipes , it is so awesome you are expanding the way they are played into different genres of music
Awesome story and puppies~🥳
What could be better?
Thanks for sharing~👍
so happy to see you play and that you enjoy it so much.. my dad and i (back mid-60s) used to listen to my bagpipe LPs when nobody else was at home and we both loved the music (i have no skill at playing or singing), but my youngest two girls both played sousaphone in HS band. i used to be able to touch my little finger all the way on the back of my hand, but it would gross people out...lol
An awesome breakdown of your life with music! Before I knew it I had made it to the end of the video lol
Truly inspiring. Thank you for posting
