Iâve had my camera for 2 years and could never figure out how to auto focus until this video đ thank you so much!!!
keep creating
So sadđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
My camera with my before 5 years and I never figure out until this video and todayđđđ€Łđ
Me too!!! I bought a D7500 and never understood the auto focus until now.
Same thing here! I'm laughing and crying at the same time đđđ
OMG.
Thank you, this was definitely useful!
Definitely recommend to other people đ„
Great, this is just what I was looking for, thanks!
Omg so helpful!! I filmed my first video on my Nikon and the Auto focusing was so bad I couldn't work it out and gave up! Been filming on my phone since! Will definitely try this on my next video! My first video is like an autofocus nightmare! Thank you!!!
Thank you loads and loads!! Iâve been crying on that focusing for 3 days already!! God bless you for making this videođ
Glad it helped!
Some good info here. Thanks. I'm going to try this on my D5300.
Just putting it on AF-S then half pressing shutter will do the job. It won't refocus. So no need to switch the focus setting on the lens.
Frags To Riches but what if I half press it and it doesnât do anything lol
yeah I was a bit confused why he changed from Auto focus back to manual again after he focused it
Thank you so much for this! This aspect of shooting was driving me nuts. You are wonderful!
you're welcome!
Yesss!!! Thank you for going more in depth with this! I had to give you a shout out in my last video about my upgraded lighting & camera setting because you helped me out so much! Thanks again!!
Awesome! Keep creating đž- I might actually pick up that Neweer ring light for my home for future videos!
BVC Co. itâs helping my videos look so much crisper! And now Iâm playing with white balance so onto the next learning experience lol!
Ashley Ellix what lighting are you using?
Kennedy Remedy Fitness I now use a ring light & 2 soft boxes
Ashley Ellix thank you. I just starting using the Nikon 5300 for photos and will use it for videos. I learned so much from this video with focus.
THANKS SO MUCH!!! I've had my Nikon forever and now know how to focus my video!!! My last footage was sharp as!!!

That was super helpful thank you so much!
Thanks bro!!! This helped out! So much!!
Thank you so much! I filmed my first video with Nikon 5300 and had no idea what I was doing. I shouldâve watched your video first đI was wondering what was going on because this camera was expensive. I will be sure to set the camera on auto then switch it to manual đ
Thanks tha was very helpful, I have a D5200, and I wanted to know which were the best settings for auto focus on video.
I had exactly the same issue with my Nikon - when I first started shooting my CZcams videos, I used my Nikon camera and the focus was just horrible. Thanks for making the video!
Lena Petrova, CPA - Finance, Accounting & Tax Tips I had the same issue. Iâm thankful for this video. I will he ready for my second video đđ

Thanks for the great tips
you're welcome
This video very helpful
Thank you Peter!
Super trick i have 5300 and my video is like beginners. But now i will try this
Nice tutorial bro!
I agree with you on Nikon's video autofocus inabilities. Weird how their marketing and ads imply video autofocusing is fine, but disgruntled users dispute this.
Great video again! As Paolo Spina, I would also like to know if you got any tips on fokus while moving? -Specially while useing a stabilizer like the Neewer :)
follow focus (manually) or have a big enough aperture so that EVERYTHING is in focus (e.g. f/8-16 vs. f/3.5) - NEVER use auto on moving subjects.
Thanks for the vid. Question how do I do initial focus if I am standing further away from the camera and can not reach the buttons:)?
Thanks a lot for this đ·đ·
đ
Thank you!
Hi and thanks for video, i have a question is it possible to remove the niose of Auto fsocus because whenyou are recording its horrible .
So if you want to shoot a music video AF-S is the best option .Correct?
Thank you.
so how do we shoot while we are in motion, for example at a very very slow speed in a car with a tripod and need to get everything in focus ?
Which lens did you use in this video? Is that wide angle lens?
So, if i want video camera for youtube, canon 600d is the low budget choice?
i need help with my nikon d5600, bro. and/or from you, guys, with me here in the comments. on my lcd monitor at the back, the display or image shows wavy rippling shadows as if the lens has moisture or something. but when i transfer the recorded video on my computer, it looks normal which is good, at least the footages are still usable. however, it's difficult for me to do adjustments on the camera settings with those wavy ripple shadows messing up the display on the lcd. what could be the problem and how to fix it? thanks in advance.
Thank you very much my bro
you're welcome
hey, thanks a lot ! but could you please tell me how to focus for recipe videos? that would be a great help.
use Manual focusing. i do it in this way and it helps.
How can I get my Nikon d5500 to auto focus on self timer for pictures ? Iâm taking pictures using a tripod
I have been thinking of taking nikon d5600 camera for a long time. I wanna make videos from standing in one place like CZcams videos .. is it good for only this type of videos?
Nikon d5600 is really a good camera...
You can buy it with no doubt...
You may not reply in time, however I'm doing a video slash photography event for my church and I will be walking around and holding my camera a lot. It's a Nikon D 5200 and I was just wondering if you had any tips on how to keep it focused while I'm moving such as what setting to have it on and if I should have a special effects in place considering I will be outside in bright light most of the time. Also how can I get it to take decent videos and or pictures in low-light or dark settings without having to use the Flash, like a stage with stage lighting as most of the light in the room if that makes any sense. I hope you see this in time considering I am leaving on Monday I know it's short term notice but any advice would help
make sure you have a VR lens - photos - AF-C/S up to your preference, videos manual focus only, for photos - make sure you have a fast shutter - videos: crank up your aperture since it's outdoors unless you have a ND filter - best of luck!đȘđž
Thank you
Thanks sanabil for watching
What lens are you using?
What is the lense youre using here?
Thanks. I am new vlogger. And i have D5300.. I have the same issue also. When ever i shot video alone.
I usually use Af-S focusing on me, and leave it at that. I dont bother with manual as af-s stops focusing when you lock on
Same here. Just a bit of a pain when you're more than arm's reach away. Need to use a prop to focus on where i will be standing.
@@EverymanFragrances get a sender/receiver thingy....cant remember what they are called....its like a remote. you can focus from afar then
What lens you used?
i will try this hack tomorrow, too lazy right now to get the camerađ€Ș
have you ever used 3D tracking, to record videos ?
&Hank you for that Video. You Save my as.. with that Clausen i couldnt find tha Solution why my Videos donât come sharp
I use single serve or pull focus myself on the D5300.
agree
I'm planning to shoot a guitar cover video and i would be quite far from the camera to half press the shutter button. What would you suggest for this situation ?
czcams.com/video/wLK96YiXXoc/video.html
thx for taking the time dude
Amazing useful demonstration . But the newer nikkor AF-p lenses do not have m/af button on them. So the toggle between m & af is to be done from the camera menu. So do you advice the newer afp lenses or older af-s lenses with m & af switches on them.
Another thing I want to know that,
in order to preview the depth of field of changing to a different aperture in live view mode you have to leave the live view & re-enter live view to see the changes made by the aperture change in the preview? Is it correct? I mean can we preview the background blur on the screen or depend only on guess work to get the work done?
Totally forgot about the new AF-P lenses - I would just do AF-S and half press shutter before recording;
sadly - one of the downsides of nikon is aperture in non-live view - so you have to constantly switch back and forth - best of luck
BVC Co. , I was thinking of getting nikon d7200. But it is capable of recording 1080 hd at 60p only in 1.3 crop mode and not in dx mode? So I want to know is using 60p essential ? Or using other fps like 30 fps and slowing them to 24 fps in the post can work ? Any advice on fps usage? Also should I drop the plan to get nikon d7200 due to its inability to shoot 1080 hd 60p in DX mode like lower end models like d5200/d5300?
60 fps good for slow motion - don't use 30 fps unless there is no 24fps option - if you want to vlog and see yourself get the d5300 as the d7200 does not have a LCD articulating screen - good luck
BVC Co. , thank you.
I wouldn't get a D7200. For one, it does not have the useful articulating flipout like the D5xxx series have. Its a lot more expensive too. The D5500 can go around for $500 refurb if you can look right. Framerate choice is up to you on how you want to present your content. 60fps is very appealing imo.
Hi sir what if i have the starting kit lens 18-55mm and it has no AF-M.. i can auto focus also using D200? thanks hope you see this comment thanks
czcams.com/video/wLK96YiXXoc/video.html
Can I use autofocus on a d5600 with a 18-55 kit lens? The only way I can get it to focus while shooting a video and auto is by half pressing the shoot button
if it's the AF-P model yes - but you need to set it to AF-S not AF-C
How do you switch back to AF? My hands are not long enough to reach the camera. Can I walk to it? If I you, would not focus drop off by then?
Your only options would be to either manually focus before you press record (e.g have someone else sit and focus then you sit) or purchase the nikon ML-3 remote but that is not recommended (as it focuses and takes a picture can't focus only) - best of luck!
i have this camera d5200, but due to its complexity on focus, i cant use it for shooting youtube video..
Great video. However I try these same techniques at 5:40 but I have a 35 mm lens and its way too tight for my liking, sometimes I wish my hands were long enough to step back đ then get the camera in focus and record
Or you can a remote! Take a picture and same thing applies
@@BVCCo7 do you have a video on this. Is it possible to half shutter release with a remote? This person question is my exact question as well
Why do you remind me of lil tay not try to be rood this vid really helped me
I totally agree that Nikon's AF is horrible when it comes to video, especially in low light situations. If you put it on AF-S mode and half-press the shutter button, it will normally focus fine on the object inside the target square. But if you move your aim and the new object in the target square happens to be farther or closer than the previous object, half-press on the shutter button again and the camera commands the focusing motor to rotate the focusing ring a fraction of a twist one way or the other and go on even blurrier focus. If you repeat the step, the camera repeats the aimless bit of twist every time and it just gets progressively more lost on focus until it just gets hopelessly out of focus it can no longer correct itself. I own a Nikon D90 and a D3200 and BOTH have this horrible trait. But if you use these DSLR for straight still photography, they're fine. Still, the NEXT DSLR I'm buying buy will be a Canon or a Sony alpha series, for sure.
Hi Peter - Iâm using an old 3200 and a 35mm 1.8 AF-S lens. I cannot seem to enable autofocus tracking when in video mode. Am I doing something wrong?
I'd change your focus modes, make sure it's Af-f, search "autofocus" on my channel the content can help
BVC Co. Awesome! Thanks Peter!
I bought new Nikon d5300 for my CZcams videos
But unfortunately every time video will blur focut is not working properly
How to fix it I have fix Lance 18 55
czcams.com/video/tWcg3_euIa8/video.html
Brother are you shooting on D5600? Is these all applicable on it too?
It's on a D5200 but yes it is applicable to all Nikon models 3000, 7000, etc.
use canon or sony f u want to video recording.. NIkon lack on this feature of realtime focusing in video
My lens does not have the switch to go back and forth.. how would you change the settings to auto focus?
just simply change your AF setting to AF-S, I'll make a follow up video
What if Iâm trying to video myself when standing about 5 feet away from the camera?
future video coming soon
hello..could you please help me why my Manual setting is too dark? just follow all your settings but still i don't get it why its too dark. btw i dont have any source of light just the natural light from outside..do i need source of light like ring light here? thanks
Increase your iso or lower your shutter
@@BVCCo7 thanks my dear. yes I tried and solved.godbless.
Also you can too... click on the shoot button and when you are focus... press AE-L button and the focus will be blocked and that's it...
unless you're filming yourself you'll need to change back button focus to another button
I have a D5200 and the 50mm prime lense... how do o work with that.. i can't stand close to the camera so make these adjustments as i get cropped out. And the worst part i dont have anyone to help me.. is there any other way around it?

Good video but i'm not sure i understand the advantage of single servo vs continuous?
Continuous Hunting VS not hunting for focus
@@BVCCo7 Continuous sounds great to me, no?

Can you show us how to get live view etc please
czcams.com/video/KHI7HhdDLdE/video.html
how to get rid of blue dots in live view?
WhT about if the subject is moving wha tasting what you have into.
this video will help czcams.com/video/tWcg3_euIa8/video.html
Is this a good solution if you move a bit? Not much, just a bit back/left/right. Do you stay in focus?
Sorry, part 2 kind of explained. So if I would move a bit, I have to turn on AF, which will probably hunt awfully. If I have someone to assist, he/she can focus manually. Third option is to set to f8/f16 and have kind of everything in focus. Oh god, why do I like Nikon picture quality better than Canon...
By the way the music video you shot is very nice :)
Guys I have a d5300 can I make the autofocus follow my face if I'm vlogging like that but with a 50mm so I will be far and won't be able to reach it? Well, even at 18mm can I make it follow my face and re-focus if I move?
unfortunately it will keep hunting - or what you can do is invest in a remote/get a friend and use AF-S - i.e. focus once before pressing record
Thanks, isn't hunting a good thing? Isn't it what follows your face when you move it? What is that function that I have seen others cameras do, where someone will let's say lean toward the camera while vlogging and the focus will correct too... I mean my phone does it :D Why doesn't my nikon do it, that is, when the thing gets out of focus, why doesn't it automatically refocus on it?
Exactly, that`s the actual problem we`re discussing here.
It`s funny how all other cameras seem to have the ability except the Nikon isn`t it?
Hey I have the AF-P Kit lens with no AF-M switch, can I still do these all?
yes! but I recommend getting another lens with AF/M - you will need to switch manual internal in the camera or in the menu system
Your advice is completely wrong, sorry. AF-P lenses are made with video in mind. They don't have AF/M switch, this function is in menu. You may need to upgrade firmware though, if you have an older model of D5xxx.
Yes your right
Hi Konstantin! I'm so glad to see your advice, as i too have the AF-P kit lens. My camera is the D5300. Do i just need to go into the auto focus menu and set it to face if I'm trying to record vlog type footage?
Tom Lawler To set camera to manual focus you go to Live View, press [i] and set MF (manual focus). My understanding is that Face detection will not be relevant any more, as it is an autofocus option.
How doyou focus for a video while moving? Like for a music video ?
I might make make a future video on this - follow focus (manually) or have a big enough aperture so that EVERYTHING is in focus (e.g. f/8-16 vs. f/3.5)
ok thanks! i'll wait for the video!!
czcams.com/video/tWcg3_euIa8/video.html
How long does the battery last on a full charge for a video?
45-hr
@@BVCCo7 45 hours?
I just did test with mine. Why to do that with manual focus? Just set tracking object or tracking face, than pick Focus per single shot, and now your camera will always track you, but focus only by shutter button semi click
czcams.com/video/wLK96YiXXoc/video.html
@@BVCCo7 That's little bit silly and in this video case you really not very sharp.
I was playing all day today to decide if I can do self recoding with Nikon and making vlog. So I did success, but better to change to silent lenses, but I was using external recorder, so not in issue.
I have Nikon D5200, how I solved it.
1) First I enabled distance detector in autofocus (actually not sure what is it, but I did it)
2) Than I changed Autofocus points from 39 to 11
3) Set autofocus Area to WIDE
In the end, I pick distance where my head is fully in that WIDE autofocus rectangle
And now, any movement of my head during talkin does not make Nikon trying to autofocus, actually he starting to act like stupid Panasonic, just reacting to changes very slow. For example, I started to read book, than show book to the center and it took 2 seconds for Nikon to understand he need refocus. That's really a win.
I will record video and show you.
Photo focus in viewfinder is pretty fast and acurate, only for video it's bad
Do you use HDR?
For videos no.
So can i plug in an aux cord?
to a nikon? unfortunately, no. It does not have a 3.5mm jack for monitoring but does have a 3.5mm for audio input
Good video but when it focuses it make a weird sound HELP
Same problem!! Have u find a solution?
