England will never progress to their potential with a manager like Southgate. Players and management team need to look at themselves. Simón's right, favourable draws previously. Souness's assertion that "the players aren't at it" because these games are just glorified friendlies falls down in any analysis due to the simple fact they are equally glorified friendlies for England's opponents.

The Scottish, Northern Irish fans etc don't do this as much as they know they have very little quality and will more or less never win a tournement. I think the formation graphic that comes up on the screen at the start of games have many completely befuddled.
Liverpool does not play 4-3-3 but 2CB-1-CDM-4M-3F; TAA and Robbo are essentially wide Midfielders in Klopps system with midfielders covering him whenever he goes forward.
Yes, he falls asleep defensively way too often but Liverpools tactics usually compensates for his defensive frailties. Unfortunately the Reds mids legs are 60% depreciated so they can’t keep up so he’s been exposed much more this season.
England does not play to his strength so he will never fit into their current system.
He is not a player to come on when you have something to hold onto but definitely the one to create for a target man, so you start him, get a goal or two then replace him with a more defensive minded player to see out the game.

Sometimes it’s been close on penalties but if you go by stature we are probably a regular quarter final team. We have a deep pool compared to some countries but I believe in my lifetime 2018 and 2020 were the big chances and England will never get that close again.
