Reminds me of a few remote camping trips I've been on....funny, I've never felt scared alone in the country, even in places you rarely if ever see other people. Bears and mountain lions are a possibility in some places, but I worried more in city streets at night than I ever did in deserted mountain passes or desert plains.... I remember one trip to an old mining area north of Las Vegas where the wind howled in a peculiar way, and as the sun set there was a pleasant uneasiness, not fear exactly, just a frisson of loneliness - a sense that this area once witnessed the passage of people, but long ago....
Did you notice the several pairs of long straight furry ears hidden down those trees, just outside ? The problem with big Wolves is that 99% of the time you deal with a whole pack, and they know how to flank , hide and stalk...

This story is the very reason why I say deep woods anything is probably a bad idea, you never know exactly what is out there. Always love getting a new video notification, I know it's gonna be a great time. I'd say legends and urban legends videos would be good fun.
Thats a pretty terrible way to live life. You're thousands of times more likely to be killed by some crazy person while walking through the city rather than have some unexplained phenomena happen to you in the wilderness. Most people who go missing are all guilty of being under prepared for the terrain and had sub par skills when it comes to planning and knowing what to do when the shit hits the fan. You're more likely to be stabbed and mugged walking every day for four months in a big city compared to scary shit happening walking every day for four months through the wilderness on something like the Pacific Crest Trail

Great narration. New subscriber. Love these stories. I do believe a large hairy humanoid could exist. Ppl always comment why they haven't been much proof, but as any animal, they are hard to get good pics. Im in MN, I have black bears every may & June. My property is surrounded all 4 side by trees, and these bears can be with in 20' of me & I've never heard a sound. It's a little freaky bc I'm positive their watching me, last 2 sightings, they came out of woods within minutes of me putting my Newfoundlands in the house. Last time was my 1st Momma & her cub.

On the first story, it drives me nuts to hear of grown outdoorsman -- armed -- huddling in a tent instead of going out to A. See WTF or B. Confronting the stranger. No foul if they thought it was a bear but not here.
I respectfully have to disagree, and I'm sorry for the long comment. Don't like, don't read. Maybe skip to the end lol. I cared for a family member for a very long time. She was utterly the most intelligent person I have ever known. She had a driving, almost gnawing curiosity about all things. But she was tortured by OCD and a terrible physical disability. In the last 7 years of her life I needed to change her diapers and by the end she couldn't even scratch herself or roll over in bed. It was such a hard thing to see, someone I cared about who was so extremely intelligent, suffering like that. But THIS was her greatest obsession: Sasquatch. While she based her beliefs on many pieces of information, she also had personal, real, frightening reasons for them. While at first I was a skeptic, we often watched her tablet together while I was sitting with her and when faced with so much evidence I believed, too. She taught me so many interesting, scientific, actually primal facts throughout our time together, like this: nearly all mammals are conditioned to ignore certain sounds while prioritizing others. I saw this with her even; because of the depression caused by her extreme disability, she had to have her tablet on all night. I'd walk in, she'd be sleeping, and the most horrifically noisy tv show would be blasting from that tablet. But if I tried to sneak through the room on my way to the bathroom, she would wake up every time. My cats also. I rescue so I sleep with several of them, especially now that I'm alone. I can walk into the bedroom and fall over a piece of furniture in the dark and none of them wake up. But I was holding one in bed the other night while she was sleeping and a mosquito bit me on my leg, and when I scratched the material of my nightgown it made a tiny scraping sound, and that cat *lit me up* trying to run away. They all act like that when they hear a sound like something is sneaking up on them. About these poor men sleeping in these tents; from the very first description this was terrifying to me. Bears are quiet, bears are careful... _but they're not cagey._ They're not intelligent like we are, and when we hear a creature behaving that way, it's unnatural and I feel it warrants a primal, instinctive terror like these men felt.
i WAS bORN IN 1949 AND READ lots of Treasure and gold mining books, people were mining Gold in this thriving town The Folks Named It "Blood Gold" village & in 1950, most residents moving to nearby villages down the coast. Marty Robbens a Country Singer had Big Hit "North To Alaska" where he Sent his Wifes Father to Portlock then Married his Daughter. The Old Man never came back.
I love your work and your narrations. I’ve found that I can only listen to you when it’s daylight out. I’m actually afraid to listen during the night. I spent time commercial fishing the Kenai Peninsula. When I wasn't out commercial fishing I was out in the woods exploring. One day my captain dropped me off at a lake with a canoe and was to pick me up at the same place at a later time. He spoke of a cabin out in a remote place that could only be reached by boat or float plane. I set out in the canoe and finally found the cabin. I set up camp and explored the woods around the camp. I found a old row boat suitable for comfort fishing and dragged it to the lake. I set out to find the oars and located them underneath the cabin. I loaded up my fishing gear and my gun and went fishing in the cove around the camp. I got some fish and started back to the cabin. I noticed something very large was following me on the shore it was hidden by the tall grass and trees. I could see the grass and small trees being pushed as the creature was heading me off coming to meet me at the cabin. I quickly changed my direction and headed straight for the creature to get it on camera. As I got close the creature stopped and dropped down in the grass and didn't move so I waited and nothing. I went back to camp and cleaned my fish and made a fire and began cooking. I started hearing the creature move about around the outskirts of camp. At one point it got so close to me I could smell it. It was the most foul smelling thing I have ever smelled. It smelled like body odor, rotten meat, and shit all combined. It was horrible. I went into the cabin and could hear the creature all night as I sat with my gun in my hand. I never saw it and I left the next day.

First story is not how experienced outdoorsmen would act and it messes with immersion when listening. If an animal is right outside your tent it knows you’re there, you wouldn’t keep quiet and go back to sleep like a teenager at a sleepover.
Very cool, this is accurate. My grandmother was from the area, and dogfish is a logging camp my dad worked in when I was a kid. Though I've never been out to the area, I've heard the stories about Bigfoot and other things in the area. Dogfish is just as scary sometimes. Appreciate the content, good reminder of home.
Back in July, I was on a cruise and one evening I watched a show on this town. I don't know if it was Travel Channel, but it showed some men who either had lived there or had had family to have lived there go back to check out the town. They kept finding old machinery, etc., in places it shouldn't be. Stuff like that. That's why I watched today, I had found the Portlock interesting.
1) in summer in Alaska, there's a serious shortage of darkness, (2) Portlock was abandoned because other routes were opened up, making travel and transport cheaper. No one need to go through Portlock any more.

Great content as always! Mr. Tape Librarian, are you familiar with the true story of The Horrible Hag of Detroit? I read about it in a book as a teenager, and was genuinely horrified. I lost a fair amount of sleep fretting over it! There are some references to it online that I've found, I think an episode devoted to the Hag, in Tape Library style, would be awesome! Thank you for your consideration 🙏
I had read about this village somewhere 10 or 15 years ago. You tell it very well and very much line up with what i read. I appreciate learning about the ufo sightings and a restoration of the village. I dont believe in ufos as we have been taught through media. However, i believe a lot of answers can be found in the Old Testament.
Great video, your introduction hooks the attention of listeners right away. And more ghost town stories are always a pleasure to hear about. A bit more info on the indigenous side of things if anyone is interested. Portlock falls under the Alutiiq/ Sugpiaq peoples traditional territory. Nantinaq does as some have pointed out bear resemblance to stories of Bigfoot or Sasquatch. This isn’t random, Bigfoot itself is a conversion of a spirit spoken of and referenced across many upper West Coast North American Indigenous Nations. The terms Bigfoot and Sasquatch commonly used are bastardizations of the traditional names for these spirits and many nations have their own stories and lore around proper etiquette towards sharing space with these beings. Some are treated similarly to trickster spirits in teaching lessons to nation members. But all view such spirits with a great deal of respect.
Although I've heard this story so many times that it's burned into my brain, I still watch anything and everything involving Portlock, Alaska. This channel, is the only one I've watched so far, that took a different approach to introducing this story. Sure that story of the 3 hunters is well known, but the order and setup in which you told everything is different from any other channel I've watched. You definitely deserve more subscribers.
I had a similar experience once while hiking at night in the High Sierras just outside of a former Gold Rush town also a ghost town. We always had stories of hairy creatures (aka Bigfoot) while growing up which I always dismissed. Never again will I doubt nor ever go back! ❤❤❤ your content, keep going...
This is my favourite bigfoot story/legend in the world... i have watched everything i can find about this story and listened to countless stories about it and i never get tired hearimg about it....there is a series on Discovery+ called Alaskan Killer Bigfoot and it has descendants from the people who lived in this village when the people went missing....

Fascinating storytelling as usual !! It's not hard to believe a feral man existed many were and many still are .
Once again, you've delivered a beautifully narrated story. ✌️❤️
thank you
Commenting first time on your vid have been listening to you for some time I am actually working on my listening skills.
You have an amazing skill of telling tales keep it up.
Endless appreciation from Pakistan.
Thank you!
This channel, along with Bedtime Stories is on the top of the list from me whenever i wanta deep in the woods scary story, with great production quality and narration! Hope it gets more subscribers and the recognition it deserves soon!
thank you! (Tell your friends haha)
As an aussie, i love finding creators with more familiar accents to me. Even though we have very different accents and are from the oppisite ends of the globe, its comforting to hear this rather than a European or North American accent.
Love your work mate.
Thanks!
You an absolute legend mate! Thx for the video! ❤
I love a Bigfoot story. The Hairy Man is new to me.
My first short video on CZcams has a genuine Bigfoot sighting ; )
I would indeed like seeing more ghost town episodes, from various countries. Thanks for your artwork man!
We've missed you!!!
I've recently found your channel, and have been binging the videos. This format could do really well re-uploaded as a podcast! Looking foward to more interesting videos :)
Already do it! :) can find it on most of the bigger podcast platforms. Normally a day or two after CZcams
Such great content and storytelling. Perfect blend of creepy and comfort.
His voice is Soo soothing while saying absolutely terrifying things 😂
@@Hyst3ricalCha0sAbsolutely! Nothing better than to be gently lulled into a nightmarish tale. Big fan of this guy
Literally the exact tone I try to go for so appreciate this 😄always said I want it to feel like a warm bath of horror haha.
@@TheTapeLibraryPerfect description haha you definitely have succeeded. We appreciate you, my friend.
@@TheTapeLibrary you should do some audiobooks! I would buy every one you did, whether I cared about the topic, because of how soothing your voice is! Lol
My coworker told me about this channel, I started listening last night, and yes! I needed a new awesome binge🖤
Ur channel production value is incredible keep it up bro🙏
I appreciate that!
Just want to say man I'm proud of you. Your hard work is finally paying off. I'm so glad your channel is growing. I remember you at like 5k views and thinking how tf does he not have thousands of subs. You really are an inspiration. Keep it up
Thanks for the continued support!
Commenting before I watch this… SO KEEN!!!!
First story is not how experienced outdoorsmen would act and it messes with immersion when listening. If an animal is right outside your tent it knows you’re there, you wouldn’t keep quiet and go back to sleep like a teenager at a sleepover.
Loved this episode mate! Proper job!
Glad you enjoyed it
This is officially my new channel to binge watch! Your research and narration is second to none, absolutely phenomenal channel! ❤️
Glad you’re enjoying it!
This story is really disturbing 😮
Dude. That was mesmerizing. Someone recommended your channel, and I'm so glad I checked it out. Fantastic delivery, great writing... wow.
thank you so much! And welcome to the channel
I would love a video exploring the legends around ghost towns ❤
This is my absolute favorite new channel, it’s awesome
Appreciate the love
What a great channel! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I follow many horror storytellers in youtube. This opening is, in my humble opinion, the best 7 minutes in this sort of videos so far on the platform.
Oh wow, really appreciate that thank you!
Welcome back!!
YES to ghost towns! Just found your channel and have been binge watching since 3 am.
I’m in tears. Mate your VO and script are comedy GOLD. You’re killing me 😂😂😂
Dude I LOVE the longer form videos. Don't hesitate to trust your audience with 20-45 mins on a single topic :)
Can we all agree this guy will have millions of subscribers in a year or two
haha I wish
Absolutely agree 💯
Very cool, this is accurate. My grandmother was from the area, and dogfish is a logging camp my dad worked in when I was a kid. Though I've never been out to the area, I've heard the stories about Bigfoot and other things in the area. Dogfish is just as scary sometimes. Appreciate the content, good reminder of home.
Interesting. I wonder how Dogfish got its name? Sounds like a lochness hehe.
Another fire vid sign me up watched everyone on ur channel already
Back in July, I was on a cruise and one evening I watched a show on this town. I don't know if it was Travel Channel, but it showed some men who either had lived there or had had family to have lived there go back to check out the town. They kept finding old machinery, etc., in places it shouldn't be. Stuff like that. That's why I watched today, I had found the Portlock interesting.
1) in summer in Alaska, there's a serious shortage of darkness, (2) Portlock was abandoned because other routes were opened up, making travel and transport cheaper. No one need to go through Portlock any more.
You have an incredibly effective way of storytelling, that is so impressive. You are able to creep me out by just delivering a story, and that’s so rare. I am recommending your channel to everyone I know, thanks for all the stellar content mate 🥰
Thank you so much!
Ever think of doing skinwalker ranch?
Want to get to it at some point
Yeah that hasn't been done a thousand times as well as a TV show...
You are the GOAT. The sounds, the stories and your god given voice make this the BEST DAMN CZcams CHANNEL IN THE HISTORY OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION
Haha, thank you!
This is suck a crazy mystery
I’ve heard this story from at least 20 diff sources. This was def the best version. Channel should have 1m+ subs.
Thanks!
@@TheTapeLibrary seriously man, I was an executive at CBS Sports, ABC, the Disney Channel & ESPN for 17 years- you’ve got elite level talent. Best of luck to you, love listening to anything you decide to produce.
@@burtharbenson8860 Appreciate that, if you ever want to call up some old buddies and tell Disney they need a new paranormal tv series I’m here! haha
Ghost towns, boom towns, abandoned places all have an edge of mystique. What residual energy is left behind? And, if you visit, what kind of welcome will you find there? Excellent!😊
Hopefully working on the follow up to this next
I am subscribed with 2 emails😂. I hope you reach 100,000 soon! You desrve it. Your research and storytelling are amazing! I look forward to each and every episode to drop. Thank you for all your hard work. It definitely shows. ❤
Thanks so much!
No that’s a new one to me! Will add it to the list
On the road to a million! I absolutely love your narrating and content thank you so much for your time and research.
haha, maybe one day
Love your videos. more ghost town stories please
Working on it next!
Thanks for sharing that!
The pair in their tent listened intently 😂😂
I don't often get to have too much fun with these scripts, got to take my moments when I can
Although I've heard this story so many times that it's burned into my brain, I still watch anything and everything involving Portlock, Alaska. This channel, is the only one I've watched so far, that took a different approach to introducing this story. Sure that story of the 3 hunters is well known, but the order and setup in which you told everything is different from any other channel I've watched. You definitely deserve more subscribers.
Thanks :)
This is a great channel. So glad I found it.
Glad you enjoy it!
Really love your channel, especially hearing about the lesser known cases. Would you consider doing an episode about Gef the Mongoose?
It’s one of the topics I’m most looking forward to covering. Think I’m going to get to it at some point in the spring
1000x yes to the ghost towns series! 😊
Love anything supernatural or unexplained 🙏🏼
I just only recently discovered your channel not too long ago. You’ve easily become one of my top favorite narrators/story teller
Needs video, I love stories , but I love watching it too
