Born and raised in Bulgaria here, I grew up listening to this story. Unfortunately, even though it sounds great, it has been proven and shown that the whole Tsarichina affair was nothing more than a mystification used to lift national spirits during a time of immense economical and political crisis (right after the fall of the communist regime in 1989). There's a whole socio-political side to the story that rarely gets talked about because of the sad reality behind the whole tale.

Here in Chile we had a similar case called isla friendship or friendship. Basically it was a supposed island that you could access by getting in contact via radio with alien beings called playedians or something like that, people went over there and dissapeared. It was used to spook people and cover up missing people that were killed by the military government at the time. Very sad though there are still some people that are skeptical about it. I think that there are plenty of documentaries about it 😢
That makes less sense than this supernatural story. Why would a semi-secret operation to dig in a random rural village while under armed guard and not giving any info to the locals help "raise the spirits" or "increase moral" of people in the slightest bit? Wouldnt that only sow distrust with the government and worry the locals who would spread the worrisome story to others....exactly as has happened. There are only two groups of people who habe heard the story: (1) people who believe it and it worries them, (2) people who dont believe it and feel it to be a waste of time. What would make people feel good or feel "warm and fuzzy" about the government? Even if they told people they were digging for treasure to give back to the people....what moron would believe that? Nobody around the world trusts their government except for fools.
There was very interesting aspect to one of the psychics in the operation Logina, she was writing these notebooks that were dictated to her by some "alien" mind and they were in language unknown or even resembling one. They had a whole team decoding them and to decode just one symbol was taking them weeks. She brought the notebooks years after to the library in Jerusalem i think, or some ancient library, to try to understand what the symbols are saying, but from the library they took them and never turned them back. To silence her she was deemed crazy. Also it was strongly believed that representatives from the us army came to the site right before it was closed. So yep endless case, difficult to understand what is true and what fiction. Growing up in Bulgaria exactly at the time of the aftermath, this case has always captivate and scare me. Amazing job of telling the story.

This reminds me of the movie The Keep. German WWII soldiers unknowingly unleash an evil imprisoned in an ancient medieval keep. Chaos and a kind of weird alien tie in happens. If you haven’t seen it, worth a watch. It came out in 1983. So we can say the movie writers did not copy from this event.

During the first story, at a key moment in your story, some hornet spray decided to fall out of under the cabinet, in my kitchen, loud crash, it had never happened before. In fact , I had not been digging for anything under there, all day nor yesterday. Creepy as shit can be!! Damn! Never heard this one, thanks. I'm halfway thru and I'm gonna say like most govt work it took 2 years to dig down to bedrock and stopped. Probably tried to shoot it once then filled with concrete. What country believes one villagers dreams and psychics pointing where to dig.
This is a very mysterious retelling of the events, however, in reality, it was more... well... Balkan than that, in the "why is there a pig snout breathing through your broken taillight" kind of way. First off, the supposed treasure. The military didn't have any official reasoning like that for the dig, this was purely the villagers being basic simple folk who only know kidnap virgin for bride and dream of treasure. They concocted this urban legend of a golden radioactive statue due to the strange events that took place, which was born from the minds of ones who had no information whatsoever about any of what was going on in the slightest. We've all been there though, I remember being 8 years old and seeing the ghost of some random dude at a window with my friends and the guy was a vampire werewolf with possible zombie origins within 20 seconds of us talking about it. Second, the guy who had the dream didn't have it prior to the events but after the dig had begun. There's a very strong national complex among Bulgarians about their heritage and an "if only had x/y/z not happened I would have a/b/c" mentality, but they ultimately disappear when presented with the opportunity to actually do anything in any real situation. Less cranially gifted individuals, almost entirely men, love to think of themselves as the offspring not of a twice enslaved nation but the nation which used to be spread out on 3 seas (while still smaller than your average US state but go off sis 3 seas looks great on your resume), so dreaming of being the descendent of a great pre slavery king and the main character who will bring glory to the land is not only not surprising but very much cliche in a sad kind of way. Lastly, the psychic who lead people to the hole in the first place got played hard. The psychic beings who contacted her not only didn't do squat for her, but "tuned" her body into their "frequency" so they could communicate better, through violently making her sick and giving her prolonged stomach pains which made her want to not be alive. Once the hole was open at the cost of several lives and a lot of sickness, they went in, took what they needed (supposedly to win some kind of war) and left. It was truly a tale of circus monkeys being used as miners without even a banana peel to sniff as a reward. And being forced to spend a lot of resources very crucial to the wellbeing of the entire jungle at the time. This universe is truly vile ain't it.

I know this story so well my best mate is Bulgarian and was actually doing his military service during the 90s. And the military top brass where doing its best to quash the stories coming from this operation. And there are lots yes UFOs which are still seen to this day over the area. "shadow people" roaming around area at night and people do believe there is some thing trapped in the ground that should not be disturbed. I actually hope to visit the area at some point. I have been to Bulgaria and nearly every small village appears to have their own psychic, there is a curious mix of beliefs and folklore and science. The fact that Baba Vanga was involved led the people who I have spoken too to believe there was something paranormal there. As she is still viewed with respect. Her story in itself would make an interesting tale especially what happened when she predicated the death of Stalin and the authorities found out about it! It makes me think of the Time Tombs from the book Hyperion (which was in some ways inspired by Lovecraft as well as other things).

Dude, you are so refreshing! New and interesting stories, that hold my attention! During the first story, at a key moment in your story, some hornet spray decided to fall out of under the cabinet, in my kitchen, loud crash, it had never happened before. In fact , I had not been digging for anything under there, all day nor yesterday. Creepy as shit can be!! Damn! My dachshund who usually jumps and runs to see what happened, just looked at me, as if to say " oh, hell no!" That little shit!
I first heard about this story on Bedtime stories. It kind of reminds me of the movie The Keep. I really like your channel and the way you tell your stories. I told my friends about your channel,and they can't understand why I listen to scary stories before I go to sleep.

Sounds to me like the military were doing underground nuclear testing or retrieving/covering up an old soviet test site; then the tales of superstitious villagers eventually got combined with internet creepypasta culture
It's not helping that the media here (Bulgaria) in the 90's and 00's were posting all the insane conspiracy stories in the newspapers without any filter.

There's been a surge in new channels in the last several months that are obviously AI.
They're mostly horrible and I personally feel like it's cheating and not worth listening to because there's no human element of creative talent. Anyone can use AI to make a video. What you do and what AI does are very separate things indeed.

Never heard this one, thanks. I'm halfway thru and I'm gonna say like most govt work it took 2 years to dig down to bedrock and stopped. Probably tried to shoot it once then filled with concrete. What country believes one villagers dreams and psychics pointing where to dig.
This is a very mysterious retelling of the events, however, in reality, it was more... well... Balkan than that, in the "why is there a pig snout breathing through your broken taillight" kind of way.
First off, the supposed treasure. The military didn't have any official reasoning like that for the dig, this was purely the villagers being basic simple folk who only know kidnap virgin for bride and dream of treasure. They concocted this urban legend of a golden radioactive statue due to the strange events that took place, which was born from the minds of ones who had no information whatsoever about any of what was going on in the slightest. We've all been there though, I remember being 8 years old and seeing the ghost of some random dude at a window with my friends and the guy was a vampire werewolf with possible zombie origins within 20 seconds of us talking about it.
Second, the guy who had the dream didn't have it prior to the events but after the dig had begun. There's a very strong national complex among Bulgarians about their heritage and an "if only had x/y/z not happened I would have a/b/c" mentality, but they ultimately disappear when presented with the opportunity to actually do anything in any real situation. Less cranially gifted individuals, almost entirely men, love to think of themselves as the offspring not of a twice enslaved nation but the nation which used to be spread out on 3 seas (while still smaller than your average US state but go off sis 3 seas looks great on your resume), so dreaming of being the descendent of a great pre slavery king and the main character who will bring glory to the land is not only not surprising but very much cliche in a sad kind of way.
Lastly, the psychic who lead people to the hole in the first place got played hard. The psychic beings who contacted her not only didn't do squat for her, but "tuned" her body into their "frequency" so they could communicate better, through violently making her sick and giving her prolonged stomach pains which made her want to not be alive. Once the hole was open at the cost of several lives and a lot of sickness, they went in, took what they needed (supposedly to win some kind of war) and left.
It was truly a tale of circus monkeys being used as miners without even a banana peel to sniff as a reward. And being forced to spend a lot of resources very crucial to the wellbeing of the entire jungle at the time. This universe is truly vile ain't it.

I know this story so well my best mate is Bulgarian and was actually doing his military service during the 90s. And the military top brass where doing its best to quash the stories coming from this operation. And there are lots yes UFOs which are still seen to this day over the area. "shadow people" roaming around area at night and people do believe there is some thing trapped in the ground that should not be disturbed. I actually hope to visit the area at some point. I have been to Bulgaria and nearly every small village appears to have their own psychic, there is a curious mix of beliefs and folklore and science.
The fact that Baba Vanga was involved led the people who I have spoken too to believe there was something paranormal there. As she is still viewed with respect. Her story in itself would make an interesting tale especially what happened when she predicated the death of Stalin and the authorities found out about it!

At that time I was a student, I remember there were live broadcasts on the Bulgarian national radio. It was late at night and it was quite mysterious!
I'm in Miami, so everytime I hear "Get yourself a warm drink" I get the heebie-jeebies.

What a great video! I had never heard of this case, but I'm fascinated! It's too bad about the silly story of the end of the tunnel circulating; when something sounds so "cinematic," it's pretty hard to believe. I can just imagine the tense near-silence, a close up on a sweaty and alert soldier's face while we see his comrades in the background. Suddenly (!), one man is flung across the tunnel! Whoosh! Ahhh! Men are being flung about left and right! "Retreat! Retreat!" Hahaha Anywho! I wish we could know more about what really happened down there! Now it's going to drive me crazy. Haha!
