    They can handle a lot, I just read about mountain ball cactus so now thats on the way. I just keep them indoors till spring. I'm pretty sure we had the coldest game in NHL history last night. It was like -17. The more worrying thing was it warmed up to 40f for a couple days this year then dropped back down to subzero a day or 2 later. So I'm not sure how they'll do with that much fluctuation.

      @CactusCaffeine  Před 2 lety

      It depends on what cactus you have. Some cactus likes a lot of sun and some can tolerate less. It you see your cactus starting to grow thin on top (etiolating), that is your sigh that you need to give it more sun. Good luck! 🙂

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 2 lety

      Fortunately, ants are not a problem here. A few times they visited my garden, they sell an insecticide here in powder form and ants get killed on contact. But watch out cause if there are ants, there are usually mealy bugs as well. They both depend on each other. Kill the mealies, you may get rid of the ants as well.

    Hey...I wonder if you can help. I'm not sure if my catus is burnt or experiencing root rot.
    I got it two months ago, still in the pot I bought it in.
    On my window sill, window faces the direction the sun sets. (makes me think its burnt)
    My cactus is a bunch of five small parts (its multiple small blue myrtles)...They shade eachothere in a way so i dont see how it would be burnt only in the bottom inbetween all the little babies...
    There is a beige/white colour at the base of the cactus which was not there before making me think its root rot.
    I doubt ive overwatered its only been watered twice and each time I let the soil dry out completely. Its currently completely dry.
    Also some seem like they are shrivelling in but...its June and I live in the UK and temperatures are around 30 degrees celsius rn...
    But yh, I really hope u can help, the internet isn't really making it clear. ❤️

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 2 lety

      Hard to tell without seeing them. But when in doubt, best to go bare root and inspect the roots and the bottom of the cactus. Soft and mushy means rotting.

      If you have desert plants, the more sunlight, the better. It is easier to filter too much light with shade cloths than to deal with not having enough sunlight. 🙂

    can i put it in the ceramic pot? please help

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před rokem

      You can use ceramic pots but you have to be careful. Ceramic pots are not porous so the soil retains moisture longer. You may adjust by making your soil more gritty, not using top dressing or simply watering less frequently.

    Do you recommend top or bottom watering for cacti?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před rokem

      To me, it doesn’t matter which way. It depends on what is easier for you. I do top watering because I have way too many pots to do bottom watering. 😊

    I have a question 🤔 ok when we buy a cactus from a nursery in a small 3in or 4in pot..how old are they?? Like 1yr old?

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  Před 2 lety

      Depends on the cactus. Some grow fast, others slow. But typically, I would guess around 3-4 years old.
