Magnificent explanation of the 4K transfer vs the blue ray disk. I doubt anyone else will come close to explaning the restoration process involved, what was done and what wasn't
Thankful your around to informe us all, making things so much clearer.
Cheers and until the next time my friend.
Would be brilliant to see a film with you.
I try my best Hilda. I don't know everything but I do know how to QC a disc. I would have spotted all sorts of issues were there any. Compression was the only thing and if you look at the actors and action on screen, you won't notice it.

Excellent stuff Trevor, its a solid job & any slight improvements for a epic masterpiece like this one is a win, win for a fan & the viewer, now even though Sergio Leone"s movie from "The Good, the Bad & the ugly" were higher budget movies than his previous ones & spaghetti westerns or euro westerns were cheaply made westerns & were never made to look great on screen.
A too cleaner transfer would take away the dust, the smoke & the dirty feel from a Western, so the work on it looks acceptable & with the right amount of detail, the blu ray is a little on the darker side in my opinion but still decent, but the 4K is the way to go for the ultimate experience in watching this great movie.
Thanks for the breakdown 👍
Thank you Carlos. It's a pleasing picture for sure. The Bluray is not quite as bad as the images suggest but I'll be parting with the BD as I said.
It's a great set all round.

I keep forgetting to get in here and leave a comment Trev. but I've finally remembered. Excellent review. If it's not the best review of a 4K disc I've seen so far then it's right up there. Well bloody done! John.
Ah thank you John, that's very kind of you to say.
Is this a film you're interested in?

@@doublebillmovies We only watched the Blu-ray a few years ago so probably won't want to see it again for quite a few years yet. I've always liked it but strangely never enough to purchase the full length Super 8 release which was first issued in 1979 I think. Your discussion about it has fuelled my interest though so if I see the 4K singing like a bird anywhere (cheap, cheap) I may not be able to resist now. John.
Seems to be very hard to get most sites sold out but found a copy on E Bay. Big shout out to HMV returned faulty set of Oceans Trilogy on Sunday replacement arrived Tuesday staggeringly good shop service. Thanks for this review.
Hi Mike. Glad you found a copy. It's a lovely set.
Did the Ocean's Trilogy replacement work?
Trevor
@@doublebillmovies Yes all three played flawlessly much to my relief.
Thanks for your review Trev.
No worries Cheekster.

Thanks for going in depth on this.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.

Rewatched my bluray last tuesday and was still very pleased with picture quality and sound quality ; however you convinced me Trevor and i am going to buy the 4k right now ( 20 € quite cheap ) , it is my very first movie i saw at the cinema ( only 12 years old ) thks .
That's brilliant. Oh I'm happy. I hope you have a nice big screen to watch it on, though you clearly saw it the best way back in the day. On film and on the big screen, can't beat it.
The picture is better than my images show.
Thanks for watching.

Hi Trevor! Great review. So curious in the decision making regarding size of disc to use? Financial? Regardless your screen shots are appreciated and agree we do want the most complete copies of our favorite films . I'll be adding this asap it sits at a whoppin 70 cdn on Amazon at the moment. Have a great weekend D in BC!! Ps Transformers the origional film version of the retro animated show is screening I was hopin to get to see this. I remember you picked it up in a haul recently any plans to do a review on it?? My best to you guys across the pond Cheers D!
Hi Dave. I believe this 4K has sold fast world wide. It's why I jumped on it ASAP. Yeah $70 cnd is a bit steep. It seems Canada didn't get a release? Not on Blu-ray.com anyway.
Get it from Amazon US its $30
Great breakdown my friend, just watched the 4k myself and it looked just fine to me.
In regard to your blu ray set, you said you didn't notice any difference between the 2 movies, the restored version isn't just the 20 minutes added back in that Paramount cut out due to run time ?
Plus, i know that that blu ray is now inferior to the 4k but it's a real shame to lose that steelbook, it's very nice artwork.
All the best and thanks.
Hi Lee. It's definitely a nice picture. The compression isn't visible if you're concentrating on the actor's and action.
It is a stunning Steelbook, I don't really know why they gave it a slip box.
I don't need it and I'd rather the money for more 4K's

Again, this reminds me of how much my dad liked this film. But he just about got to grips with VHS and DVD. Not sure how he'd cope with Blu Rays and 4K and the technology. He had enough trouble with microwaves and washing machines! God rest his soul.
I'm sure with the right guidance your dad would have been fine. My nan was using DVD, free view TV and a mobile phone till she passed away in the 90s
At your dad doesn't have to worry about those things anymore. I'm sure he's able to watch what he likes now without any trouble. I lost my dad in 2011. O miss him all the time. I often think "dad would love this film" or what ever.
At least you still get to enjoy what your dad used to enjoy.
Take it easy.

I have not seen this movie for some time, interesting review😉
Now is definitely the time to watch it again. It looks lovely, especially on a projector. I'm sure it looks amazing on a TV too.
Trevor
Best film ever
It's very cool and slick.
Thanks for watching.

Happy with my copy 💿👈🏻, its a masterclass in filmmaking one of my favourites
Totally agree Stuart.

The 4k has Dolby vision
Thanks for confirming that. I corrected the specs on Blu-ray.com, removing the HDR 10 but I left the Dolby Vision where it was.
