India-Canada relationship strained by Nijjar murder, High Commissioner implies

  • India's envoy to Canada spoke about the future of the two countries' relationship publicly on Tuesday for the first time since the RCMP made arrests related to a homicide that has roiled tensions between the two countries.
These remarks came as Canada and India have developed tensions following the killing of Sikh separatist activist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in B.C., on June 18, 2023.
High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma addressed the Montreal Council on Foreign Relations, where he said there are positives and negatives to Canada and India's relationship - though the good outweighs the bad.
While not directly naming Nijjar, he said a major strain on the relationship is what he called "the story" in the "media," implying Nijjar is a Canadian national who has nothing to do with India.
"So the foreigners having, if I can call it, [an] evil eye on the territorial integrity of India, that is a big red line for us. Indians will decide what will happen to India. Indians will decide the fate of India, not the foreigners," Verma said.
He noted, however, that Canada and India's trade relationship is extremely positive.
Last fall, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the Indian government of playing a role in Nijjar's killing, and the RCMP arrested three Indian nationals last Friday in connection with the case.

As an Indian Hindu who grew up in Canada I just have one question. There was a survey in India that showed 95 percent of the Sikhs in India don’t want to separate. Now in Canada your loyalty should be to Canada so why are you raising these issues here? I don’t get it. Canada is your home so show your loyalty to the land. Sure I love Canada and India both and I love both cultures. Canada have me a lot and my kids are born here. I m very disappointed we have politicians who are selfish greedy for power and not concerned about Canadians. We need someone strong and treats every Canadian equally and not divide people and create havoc like some politicians have done just to stay in power.

I don't think Canada should have anything to do with India whatsoever. Their families have been practicing foreign interference in Canada. They've been using Canadian resources to fund terrorism on BOTH sides of this conflict in India. They shouldn't be in our government offices or our businesses as managers, HR resources or executives where they can funnel our community resources away from Canada into their families and conflicts. Your people have shown time and again their commitment to screwing Canada for the good of India. They don't care about Canada and its obvious. So they should be IN India. Not Canada.

Diversity is not your strength. But, Great Replacement surely is. Yes. Canada respects "diversity & inclusion" as long as it's the Trudeau's future Vote Bank (aka Jihadists, Radicals flooding in). We Indians 🇮🇳🇮🇳hope that someday Justinder & Biden will show the same amount of concern for the protection of free speech of Western Conservative Christians who are being targated in Canada & US for exercising their Free Speech as much as they show for Indian minorities. Arresting your Truckers, Freezing their Bank Accounts, Harrassing Right Wing Journalists are not exactly great example of Democracy.

More like we welcome any potential Leftwing VoteBank we can get (aka Jihadists & Radical Sikhs). Great Replacement is our strength. We Indians only 🇮🇳🇮🇳 hope that Justin Castro can show this much respect for his own right wing citizens as he shows for minorities in other nations. Because Freezing Truckers Bank Accounts, Arresting Right wing Journalists, Silencing Conservatives are not great examples of "welcoming diversity".
