In one more year, I’ll graduate from nursing school and hopefully pass my NCLEX to become a Registered Nurse. The first thing I’m going to do is take my parents and brothers to Bora Bora on my nursing salary because they deserve it and I’ve had this goal for the longest time!

That's cool. I was raised by my mother and I became an engineer. I made my first $100k/yr when I turned 23. Since then I've taken my mom to Las Vegas, Aspen CO, Grand Canyon, Miami Fl, Ruidoso NM, New Orleans, and next I will be taking her to Grand Cayman in May 2019.
Update: I ended up taking my family to Maui, Hawaii instead. The total trip for 5 ppl for 6 nights and doing one excursion a day was $15k.

OR go to other places in southeast asia. in my own country, if I go back for a month I can survive on $2000 (and about 600 of that is spare money) with a very nice boutique hotel.

We just came back from Bora Bora on June 3 for our 20th anniversary. We booked thru Costco, flew from DFW to LAX, then to PaPeete, then BB. Stayed at the same resort, Intercontinental Thalaaso. Yes, it was really expensive, but absolutely magical. Costco price for 5 nights included flights, boat transport from BB airport to Intercontinental Thalaasco, breakfast & Dinner each day & 2 free towels was $10,000. We have been to many places, but there simply is no other place like Bora Bora. For a minute there, I thought you stayed in the same bungalow as us! Thanks for posting your video, as I didn’t think to videotape the airports & boat ride to IC resort. It was like being there again!
We have decided to go to Fiji next, though now I’m curious about the Maldives!

I've read a lot of the comments. Most saying how it's not worth the money, etc. We went for our 50th anniversary. It's not cheap. Our trip added up to just under $20,000.00 but included airfare from Buffalo, NY to LAX then LAX to Tahiti and return, trip insurance, lodging, inter island flights, ferry, transfers, meals, excursions, car rentals, scuba diving for my husband, souvenirs but not including what I spent on pearls. We had 16 nights -6 in Moorea, 7 in Bora Bora, 3 in Tahiti. Had 7 nights in overwater bungalow on BB. But that color water in Bora Bora we've not seen any where else. The closest color water was the Turks & Caicos. We thought the food in TCI was the best of all the places all over the world we've been. I'm sure the trip could have been done cheaper but this was to celebrate 50 years and we felt we deserved a dream trip. Which we had! I'm glad we went even though it was pricey. I'll cherish our memories for many years.

Just came back from the Maldives for 5 nights, staying at overwater villa in Angsana Velavaru. Hotel only all inclusive was $5k for 2 ppl, plus seaplanes of $800 and international flights, private beach dinner. Total cost probably around $8k?
We went to Bora Bora, Moorea, Tahiti for 11 nights back in 2014. We stayed in overwater bungalows for every night (Le Meridien, Sofitel, Intercontinental), including one excursion per day, private beach dinner at Moorea Sofitel (totally worths it), fine dining (is there any other options at the hotel besides fine dinning?), international and domestic flights, speedboat transportation, total $15k almost $16k.
French Polynesia overall is more expensive, but food quality overall is better. Maldives has way more hotel options therefore pricing is a little more competitive. Love both. Maldvies however is too far from us :(
Thinking of going back to French Polynesia next year. After Maldives and Bora Bora, I no longer find any other beaches as impressive, it did kill other beaches for us.

She definitely did the all out 5 star version. There is definitely a cheaper route to bora bora. Slashing half of what she spent and you don’t have to go the millennial hostel 2 star route to do it. You just have to be strategic on your flights, use every available flight site to get the best deal. I’ve caught flights from LA to bora bora for 750 RT. So it’s possible. You may have to sacrifice staying in those bungalows but you can find some nice places on the lagoons. Or get more people to split the cost.

Good Review! We have traveled to St. Lucia, D. R., Jamaica, Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Bahamas, and have seen very similar gorgeous views of the mountains and the crystal clear waters in Costa Rica and St. Lucia that you've shown at Bora Bora. We have not ever been at a bungalow but I do know they exist and are available in Caribbean as well , among islands of Belize as well as other Carribbean islands for a fraction of the cost mentioned since it is obviously so much closer to U.S. We'd still love to explore Bora Bora but due to such a remote location and long flight we'd hate to spend so much time getting there and back plus the time lag, so instead we decided to pick other locations like Bermuda, Hawaii, the Azores, Capri, Yalta, Cyprus, Malta, and few others :) They are much closer and still cheaper for this range of days and interesting to explore, each in its own way :) Thank you for your honest opinion and awesome review. Beautiful island and happy you guys had an awesome time there!

Nkauj Hmoob Yaj : 10,000K is pretty cheap for Bora Bora in my opinion. The total of our flight costs alone were almost twice that much. Our plans in total were over $30,000k ( that's including flights, hotels, food, activities, tips...). However, as with all things, I guess a lot depends on how budget conscious a person wants to be about their travel, or how budget conscious a person has to be. We wanted to do it up big because this was not the type of place most people usually go to more than once or twice in a lifetime, if at all. We figured we might as well do it all top-shelf, rather than going with lower-end accommodations, coach flights, and lower cost food options. We booked first class plane tickets, though we did have a numbers of flights and so we booked overnight stays in three different countries before our final flight into Bora Bora. We booked the Over the Water bungalows at the Conrad Resort in Bora Bora for 1,600K+ per night. Conrad Resort is one of the most expensive on Bora Bora, but it's beautiful and recently underwent a renovation. Plus, it's secluded from the other resorts that are on the East side of Bora Bora. The Conrad faces out on the South-South West side of Bora Bora and has unobstructed ocean/sunset views. Also, we booked a stay in the Over-the-Water bungalows at the Intercontinental Hotel on Tahiti for two days on our way back from Bora Bora. Overall for our trip, we booked lots of actives and excursions which added up to lots of money. Jet Ski, ATV motor bikes, private boat for snorkeling, catamaran sailing tour around Bora Bora, multiple Spa treatments at the two resorts, and we pay to swim with Dolphins at the Dolphin Center on Moorea Island on our way back. Obviously, food and drinks is very costly if you eat mostly at the resorts, but it's more convenient that way, rather than running all over the main island trying to find budget food opinions like food trucks and convenience stores. Bora Bora can be VERY expensive, but an experience like this is worth paying for at least once in your life in my opinion. However, no matter if your budget is in the $5000 - $10,000 range, or the $30,000 range, or $50,000+ range, you will have fun regardless I am sure.

Honestly. I spent between 14,000-15,000.00 for 3 of us to fly to Italy for 2 weeks. We flew out of NY to Rome. Took an excursion down to Naples to climb Mount Vesuvius. Hopped on the high speed train from Rome to Florence. From Florence took the high speed train to Venice. From Venice flew to Sicily and stayed 4 days. Flew from Sicily to Rome and then flew from Rome to New York. Mind you we did it all through tour groups which is costly. Our trip seems a better deal by comparison. If I had a choice I would rather go to Italy.

our trips twice a year are always caribbean, always all-inclusive,always 4* resorts or better. french poly is a complete ripoff for these reasons: 1= food(a fish is a fish,no matter HOW its cooked, same goes for veggies) but cuz most is imported, its expensive. 2= air travel(cuz its soooo far out there, Airlines hike prices. to compare, you can travel across atlantic to europe for a fraction of the cost,so airtravel to french poly is way inflated for no reason and it shouldnt be,an airport is an airport,no matter WHERE you travel). 3= the water( same color as anywhere in the caribbean,so wtf?? ). so to recap, for $10 to12K,WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER DO,1 trip to french poly for a week or 6 fourteen-day trips to all-iclusive caribbean? a no brainer.

I guess a lot of people dream about staying in those bungalows out on the water but you can find cheaper options than that. if you stay somewhere on a main island you can buy groceries and cook some of your own meals to save money.
