Harrison Ford I know I saw it in my recommendations and I was like wow Robert Downey jr and Steve carrel in a skit to together that's interesting. Then I heard him talk
Stephen Colbert said this was based off of his true experiences as a waiter the next morning/afternoon hungover. He would literally almost get sick when talking about food. This is such a classic sketch.
Damn. I was watching Jimmy Fallon when he was interviewing Steve Carell, and Steve said this was based off his audition because when he was trying for the part, one of his sketches was a podiatrist who gets nauseated by feet! Interesting
@@Will.Moen. It's actually both. They took the audition with the same idea but different scenarios without knowing eachother. Source: The Late show with Stephen Colbert, interviewing Steve Carell
Colbert is so good at imitating nausea that I felt a bit of nausea myself as the sketch went on. It was perfectly ordinary restaurant faire but I'll be damned if I'm going to put any of that in my mouth now!
Nutty to think they had Dana Carvey, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Louie C.K, Robert Smigel and Dave Chappell working on one show. I'm sure I'm leaving some other deserved names out, but I was bummed when the show was cancelled.
Back somewhere between 1988-1991 I saw these guys at Second City in Chicago on the main stage. Steve Carell did a genius bit about a mob boss who was also a cardinal with the church... his character would go from benevolent father to unhinged violent mafioso in a wink... clever and howlingly funny!
Steve Carrell is my absolute hero as far as comedy concerned. The work he's done in The Office is nothing short of amazing. Stephen Colbert is another one, he'll become on of the greats of hosts in talkshow no doubt about that.
A truly flawless comedy sketch; no wonder this show is so legendary. Carell is always great, but I can't get over Stephen Colbert in this--he carries the sketch 100%.
@@shuabert Ohhhhh .... is it “this car ride is making me nauseous” vs “I feel nauseated,” or do I still not have it right? Also, could it also work like this: “this car ride is nauseating” ?
In the docu "Too Funny to Fail" it talks about this. Really funny. Apparently Stephen was a waiter and sometimes would come in with a hangover and be grossed out, and would do this bit for the other waiters. Carrell wrote the list so he didn't know what it said beforehand.
Came here after seeing "Too Funny to Fail" and learning this is is the sketch that years later helped get Colbert, and later Carell hired on The Daily Show.
i loved this show when it was on (the short run that it had). particularly i loved the skit where carell and carvey drove around paying for things and then driving away before receiving them.
+Otiss I found this clip actually from the Kevin Pollack Chat Show with ....Rafi (Forget the actual name of the comedian.) He was discussing what stuck out in his mind as being funny and what shaped his career in comedy. This clip has totally got to blow up and Steve Carell needs to get on Colbert's show for a reenactment.
Deadpan means keeping a straight face; not reacting. Please stop perpetuating its misuse, you have already mislead more people with a limited understanding of the vocabulary they wield. If Carrell was deadpan they'd have named the sketch "One Waiter who is Nauseated by food and One who Stands Expressionless."
You can tell Steve Carell has vomited at least once in his life lol! So freaking believable it almost made me gag. That part at 1:18, when he used the towel on his face is on point.
This is actually hilariously accurate for me because I'm vegan and get nauseous thinking about those dishes lol Ok after reading the comments... I didn't realize that was Colbert!! Thought it was RDJ the whole time
Yeah, have to admit that I came for this because of the Late Show interview with Timothee but I had kinda heard about it because Colbert has mentioned it a few times when he talks about working with Carell.
@Rawk4Life Carell was a correspondent for The Daily Show from 1999 until 2005, with a number of regular segments including "Even Stevphen" with Stephen Colbert and "Produce Pete."
Stephen looks like Robert Downey jr!
+Complete Package Marvel should consider Stephen for Phase 3 - superhero or supervillain.
Omg that's what I thought!!
Harrison Ford mind blown
mix of Stephen, Robert, and Rob Lowe lol

I know that feeling all too well.
Mr. Carell's one and only line delivered so greatly on epic proportions.
"Chicken."
The Dame Judi Dench of sketch appearances.
This is a great exercise for actors.
Docktor Jim I was totally thinking the same thing.
I'd get sick doing it:)
Holy shit I thought Stephen Colbert was Robert Downey Jr from the thumbnail
Me too!
Ohhhhh I just noticed I responded to a comment that was written 6 years ago😆
Hope you’re alive and well 👍🏽
Now that we mention it...Have we ever seen Colbert and RDJ in the same room?
same
same and that's why I clicked on it
I came here for Robert Downey jr.
I’m not disappointed.
Basaltar DiosDelBadco no fucking shit
@@-__9767 you're on the milk carton
Stayed for 90's RDJ
The influence of Monty Python is strong in this one.
I’ll bet the rest of the Pythons saw this & said “Damn, we should’ve thought of that one first!”
Colbert sounds just like Eric Idle
Piecemaker1975 I concur sir.
Crunchy Frog anyone?
"Good thing i didn't tell him about the dirty knife!"
Carell looks completely sick, even at the beginning.
Not sure who these two are, but I think they'll have a bright future in comedy someday. :)
Try to grasp sarcasm more, bro...
+Mark Zeddo Hah, come on dude. You didnt catch that?
I think the smiley face makes this comment sound genuine haha

jicon97 And Charlie Kaufman!
jicon97 Charlie Kaufman and Spike Feresten!
Bill Chott, Elon Gold, Dino Stamatopoulos, Heather Morgan, Chris McKinney, Robert Carlock and Jon Glaser, too.
too much talent to stay together on one show for long, they were all stars needing to break out on their own.
@@xenohtype never heard of any of them
I gotta say Stephen did such a good job faking being nauseated that he made me for real feel nauseated
0:56 - Carell is trying not to laugh :D

Their acting is so good that even I feel sick from hearing the food. Anyone who’s worked in a food place while sick can relate

That’s Stephen Colbert, not RDJ.
@@ryanday1231 duh. He just looks like him here
Steve Carell’s face as this goes on and on is a thing of great skill 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
I lost it when they had to swap the waiter for: "Chicken" xDD

OG OBBBYDE ....I loved Strangers With Candy. It's a comedy nerd must-see like Mr. Show.
OG OBBBYDE I seriously could not agree with this comment more, hit the nail in the coffin
colbert will go down in history as better than letterman and carson, calling it.

Look how great Carell's expression changes at 20 seconds......perfect
Thank you office ladies for bringing me here
They might be my two favorite men in comedy, ever. And you know they're talented when they actually make YOU nauseous as they read the menu. :P
Kudos to them on using "nauseated" and not "nauseous"
+indorock Thank-you for mentioning this. Sometimes I feel very alone.
Nauseated means having nausea, nauseous means causing nausea.

@@shuabert Ohhhhh .... is it “this car ride is making me nauseous” vs “I feel nauseated,” or do I still not have it right? Also, could it also work like this: “this car ride is nauseating” ?
Steve and Stephen were hired because of this on the Daily Show!!
In the docu "Too Funny to Fail" it talks about this. Really funny. Apparently Stephen was a waiter and sometimes would come in with a hangover and be grossed out, and would do this bit for the other waiters. Carrell wrote the list so he didn't know what it said beforehand.
This skit is hilarious, but I wish I wasn't a sympathy puker.
I feel this way about Italian food. Hate it. The smell makes me feel like these guys.
lol, funny
Meggie Gei pathetic
Oh God. Me too!
Yeah, can't watch it.
Amazing, the clip that made them Daily Show's Correspondents.
this reminds me of when michael eats fettucini alfredo before the fun run
I'm so happy this popped up. Now I finally can say I've watched it and know what Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell are talking about.
Very Monty Python. I love it.
Came here after seeing "Too Funny to Fail" and learning this is is the sketch that years later helped get Colbert, and later Carell hired on The Daily Show.
Brilliant!! THIS sketch is what got the Steve's onto Stewart's The Daily Show!! Bloody Brilliant!!! :)
Two rising comedic stars right there.
I love how youtube recommended this to me 10 years later
Every single second of this bit is pure gold...these two are my heroes!!!
Such a goofy, simple premise made great by both their performances. Cracks me up every time!
Oh god, I've just watched this twice in quick succession and have cried laughing both times!
Great sketch. They're also IAce and Gary, the Ambiguously Gay Duo lol. So much talent in The Dana Carvey Show withh Louis CK and Robert Smigle
Thanks Office ladies!
Literally, my stomach started turning as I watched this. Excellent acting, fellas!
This show was criminally underrated.
Hands down, Stephen is hella cute ❤
Goobi Stratton I know, such a cutie!
When you’re hungover and can’t call in sick from work.
I love how Carrell just turns green from the word “specials”
the late show with stephen colbert brought me here today
i loved this show when it was on (the short run that it had). particularly i loved the skit where carell and carvey drove around paying for things and then driving away before receiving them.

What did they say on the podcast regarding to this?
no
I watch this skit when I’m feeling a little down to pick me up. End up laughing my head off every time! C’mon, it’s Colbert & Carell!
This is the skit that got Colbert hired in the Daily Show. Six months later they needed somebody else and he brought Steve Carrell.
The punchline was literally on the title. Still, I laughed like a hyena
Thumbs up if you found this video after Stephen mentioning it on the The Late Show while talking to John Krasinski

I recall this is from the INFAMOUS Dana Carvey show. Even when noth Colbert & Carrell get together, this bit STILL comes up all this time later. 🖥🎭
Steve’s such an acting genius
stephen's eyes are so beautifully big! if only he'd take his glasses off on the late show. he wouldn't be able to read the prompters though
Fannish Fanning cause contacts don't exist.
Steve Carrells deadpan in back in the beginning is killing me.
Funniest part imo

Colbert sticking his hand in the water to wipe his face just sells it for me. XD
My absolute favorite bit. I watch it a few times every year!
This is so classic - and anyone who’s worked in the industry knows this feeling all too well.
