  • Just Friday after the car/engine had been running great for months, it started having crazy AFR numbers, hesitation, stalling, popping, and being almost un-driveable. Trying to solve this at the moment so I made a video.

    to everyone, I troubleshooted this issue just days after posting this video (September 20200. Turned out my msd Digital-6 Plus CD-ignition box went haywire and was pulling 20 def of timing out all over the timing table. so my 20 deg at idle was actually zero deg. my 36 deg at WOT was actually 16 deg. Sent the MSD box back to MSD for repair. While it was there I swapped the whole ignition over to a holly hyperspark ignition and it has been AMAZING. Sold off the repaired MSD ignition box with documented paperwork of the paperwork. The buyer is happy with it and it is working fine for him.

      @@deviantrebel6326 yup. One . Just into my 4 hours drive out to a two day autocross race I had one of the fuel injectors go stone dead. Absolutely dead . Not that the wiring came loose but the injector locked up and I had to freaking race for two full days on 3 of the injectors working overtime and then drove home 4 hours. Holley does NOT sell replacement sniper injectors, so I had to buy one from a guy on the Holley sniper forums. That’s sucked

      @@mrmurdock2u247 Well I sent the MSD box back to MSD and they repaired it but while I was waiting for that whole repair to happen which took a few weeks I went and installed the Holly hyper spark ignition system and that works perfectly seamless with the Holly sniper so in a way it was a blessing in disguise. I ended up selling the fully repaired ignition box to someone in California for their car and it worked perfectly for them so MSD did the repair but it’s nothing that I fixed. I just decided to install the Hyperspark box, coil, and distributor

    having all sorts of troubles on my sniper on my 68 fleetwood, so many things to check, replace retry and add on, all you want is to just drive it, nice car champ, engine bay looks awesome.

    • @IROCZman15
      @IROCZman15  Před 3 lety

      Thanks man. There’s definitely a few things that you MUST get right to get the sniper up and running. Grounding it directly to the battery. And keeping certain wires away/clear from crossing over each other or running alongside each other. Also proper fuel pressure and setup. Holley likes to set the default setting to have it run very rich (as a safety). So you will have to go there and take fuel out of your Ve tables and start up tables, not on the handheld, but on the laptop. Also. Try the official Holley forums and the Holley Sniper sub-forum. Tons and tons of tech on there and lots of well experienced EFI gurus.

    I’m having the same issue. new stock crate motor less than 200 miles on it. New msd wires new plugs with dielectric grease. New sniper gas tank with pump and Holley 10 micron filter.Had to replace the regulator because I was getting 78 psi out of the box. No RFI , no vacuum leaks found and Now at 60 psi still runs terrible. Lost!

      Yup. I replaced my internal sniper regulator also. Holley shipped me on for free. Still
      Had problems getting the engine to run. Turned out my msd box went haywire and was pulling 20 def of timing out all over the timing table. I’m betting that’s not your problem because msd tech support said this is a very rare thing/uncommon.
      Start digging into the Holley sniper efi tech support forums. I’m on there and I learned a ton from reading the tech posts. They will tell ya to data log the engine because it will show what is going on

      @@Funkyflykiwi yea definitely Took a few days to sort it out but I had the car running a few days later. Switched to a Holley hyper spark ignition system. For some odd reason my MsD digital 6plis box started retarding timing by 20 degrees. So at my normal 19 deg of advance at idle I was actually 1 deg retarded. And at 35 deg advanced at wide open throttle, I was only at 15 degrees advance . It was wild
      Check some of my more recent videos on my channel and you will see the hyper spark and the car doing much better. It runs solid 11.80s in the quarter at 115 mph

    Hello my fuel ratio is all over the place too. I'm also running a digital box like you. how did you find out that the timing was out? how do I check for that? Thanks.

    • @IROCZman15
      @IROCZman15  Před 2 lety

      So on the Holley efi, there is a feature called “static timing control”. It allows you to put in ANY timing number you want and it will hold the timing exactly there, with no fluctuation. I then can use my
      Hand-held timing gun to see if the numbers are close or
      Not and make adjustments from there. Keep in mind, fuel tables and afr tables and timing tables are all separate, so you should refine each of those separate. If your afr readings are wacky, I’m betting your timing is retarded too much. You will need a timing gun if you don’t have one, make sure you buy one that works with Holley efi. There are a few listed on the Holley efi forums, probably could find those via a Google search

    • @IROCZman15
      @IROCZman15  Před 3 lety +1

      Yep you are absolutely correct. That was one of the first things I noticed during that troubleshooting time.. I contacted Holley and they shipped me out a brand new replacement fuel pressure regulator for free. I installed it and it brought the psi to right around 61.0 psi. Unfortunately that was not the fix for this whole problem. If you wanted to check out some of my other videos you will see that I had an issue with the MSD ignition box. For some crazy reason it was retarding the timing 20°. I sent the box to MSD and they repaired it and tested it and I have since sold that box in full working condition to someone else. I decided to go with the Holley hyperspark ignition system because it allows me to do a lot more cool stuff with the ignition
