- Carter trying to eat his first taste of "solid" rice cereal mixed into milk. This was right before we got the rubber-tipped spoons...
and Carter was between 4 & 6 months when we started cereal.

Adorable baby! Such a cutie pie! Looks like a doll. You are not doing a good job of feeding. The spoon stays pretty much outside his mouth and he doesn't get the satisfaction of sucking the food off the spoon. He doesn't get the satisfaction from eating. It might help if you make the cereal a little thicker.

Its strange how these videos say baby's first solid food, then in the video the parents are feeding the kid runny formula on a spoon, then laugh when it runs out of the kids mouth.
Yea he was struggling getting the food in the babies mouth but I'm sure it's a learning process for parents too
I know. You can’t expect it to not keep running directly out of his mouth when you’re basically pouring formula at the very tip of his tongue. It should definitely be a thinner consistency for the first couple of times that they feed him, but this was just liquid. It looks like they used a 1/4 of a teaspoon of rice cereal and then mixed in 6 oz of milk.
Does anyone know how to feed a baby! Might as well drink a bottle.

When u r feeding first time it should be in liquid form not thik.
No, it shouldn’t be liquid on their first feeding. It should have a thinner texture then what it would normally be, but it’s not supposed to be liquid. I’m a RN and have worked in a pediatric doctors office for 18 years now, and considering the fact that I’m always the one who explains how and what to feed a baby when they’re old enough for solids, it’s safe to bet that I know more about feeding a baby then most people do.

Yep, it's waaaay too runny, and it looks like he is trying to suck the stuff off his bib. There are plenty of books for new parents, we should never see this kind of mistakes. The dog was interested, though.

Thicker cereal and a baby spoon would have worked much better as he does have the idea of taking it off the spoon.

Definitely the serial needs to be thicker and fed with a baby spoon is ideal. But that's just like water I'm just pouring it into his mouth. Not exactly the consistency it's meant to have to give the baby substance and stay fuller longer and become accustomed to eating.

Try a smaller rubber tipped baby spoon and thicker cereal mix by mixing baby food fruit with the cereal .. baby is just too precious ❤️
You get thicker cereal by using more cereal and less milk. Adding fruit is not a good idea bc the baby will get used to the sweetness of the fruit and end up not wanting to eat any vegetables at all. You should always wait to give them fruit until after they’re eating a variety of veggies well.

Maybe next time he will have cereal I never seen cereal look like straight milk . Should have just put it in his bottle. Also have a wet cloth to wipe his face he was wiping it himself. He is super cute and excited so adorable I want to just hug & say eze him. Precious

The parents mentioned that they got some rubber tipped spoons, but gee.The usual Parent Police were here to point out how wonderful THEY are, compared to these parents. I mean, let's dog pile because things weren't done "properly". The baby did fine, it was relaxed and happy, seemed like a successful introduction. Constantly correcting good parents who just want to show their baby is lame..
Linda C you are so right!!! It’s probably their first baby so it’s a learning experience for all. They seem like smart parents so they will figure it out as they go like all new parents. I know they are treasuring every moment. I wish my phone had a video on it 15 years ago!!♥️♥️♥️

Sharon Calvert it’s not supposed to be thicker on their first few times. They should be using a baby spoon though bc that one is way too big. The first few times is just about trying to get them to eat from the spoon with something just a little thicker than the milk they’re used to and once you accomplish that you can start making it thicker.

He is hungry and is excited to eat, but you're not feeding him properly. You mean well, of course, but the technique is all wrong. You're pouring the food into his mouth instead of bringing the spoon into his mouth and letting him learn to suck the food from the spoon.
You are absolutely right. I have the exact same observation. She's a very messy feeder.
And the poor baby doesn't know what to do with the food! I notice many parents just touching the baby's lips with the spoon, but this is the first time I'm seeing food being poured! I'm sure things improved over time!

That’s bc his parents don’t know how to feed him the right way. The cereal was WAY too runny, the spoon was too big, and they never put the spoon into his mouth. They were just pouring it into the front of his mouth and then acted surprised when it came right back out. He did a good job considering his parents lack of experience in feeding a baby properly.
