I think and theorize that Alicent still cares for Rhaenyra as sister after all this years that she lied to her and betray their friendship and Criston Cole still loves Rhaenyra after all this years after she broke his heart and left him with a broken honor before Alicent saved his life and made her guardian slash co - leader of team green and her secret lover, so he feels torn between hating Rhaenyra and want to destroy her and loving her without hurting her, as for Alicent she hates and dislike Rhaneyra but does not want to hurt her and her children but wants to protect her children and keep her power and of her son's power by destroying Rhaenyra and her family so Alicent is feeling torn as well , like its hard to love someone you hate the most and thats whats happening for Alicent and Criston in season 2 in my opinion and theory

I don’t like that Daemon choked Rhaenyra, but I understood that he did it out of frustration. Daemon doesn’t necessarily want the throne for himself, he would take it if he was in line, but he is more interested in keeping the throne for the family, the righteous family in his mind.
