  • This video outlines how to perform a rescue from an aerial ladder.
With the apparatus spotted appropriately for a suspected or confirmed rescue, the engineer will raise the ladder ≥10 degrees and extend it ≥10ft. This allows the rescue FF to climb the ladder without any pinch or trap zones. The FF can now get into position by lowering the plates, kneeling on the ladder and clicking their ladder belt into the truss. Once the rescue FF holds onto the beam of the ladder, the engineer will confirm they’re ready to move. After confirmation is made, the engineer can begin to move the ladder into position for rescue operations by elevating, rotating and extending to the victim.
Using the intercom, the rescue FF can help guide the engineer as the ladder approaches the window or balcony. They can also instruct victims awaiting rescue on how and when to board the ladder to insure it’s not overloaded. Once the victim is safely on the ladder, the rescue FF can guide them down and prepare for additional rescues.
Remember, 10 degrees and 10ft minimum.
Any questions can be routed through your chain of command.

First, I love the technique in the rescue. How would you go about this with an unconscious victim?
